    PRYMER13's PVC EE-3

Ok some of you may have known that I have been working on a mostly PVC blaster for quite some time. Here is what I did:
I picked up some PVC pipe from Lowes (one 10' section) and I grabbed some scrap 1x6 pvc trimboard from work.

I resawed the trimboard to about 5/8" thick to use for the frame of the gun. I took some self-made templates as well as Wizardofflight's and made some tracings, cut and cleaned them up. I then went and picked up some PVC closet rod from Home Depot and sanded the **** out of it and slid it into the tube that I had cut. I put a notch in the end that would fit the top of the frame and used two screws to hold the frame to the barrell.

I then took some left over sintra and cut it for the receiver shroud (you know the piece the seperates this gun from any other revolver). I heated and bent it, and then used plummers PVC cleaner and glue to adhere it.

I then grabbed some masking tape and taped off the open should area and commenced to fill it with bondo. This made the entire assembly very rigid, like one solid piece. While the bondo was setting up and reaching the gel stage I started carving and shaping. Below is what I have so far.
Most details are still undone, this is just a very rough begining.

    Re: PRYMER13's PVC EE-3

Thanks for the compliments guys, I really appreciate it. I should have some updates this weekend. I routed out the stock for my bracket and I applied some spot putty in the receiver area. I will touch up the barrel tonight, and finish the hingepoint...spray tomorrow and post pics tomorrow night.

The blaster in the background is one of the Sci-Fire blasters, its a real beauty, and now belongs to a friend.

I'll have some more update pics tonight, no primer yet, but a little more has been done.

The Stock is made form solid 8/4 mahogany. Hand shaped and sanded. I cut it using WOF templates (Which I can confrim are spot-on!) I am quite happy with the over all look. I still have to clean up the shoulder area of the stalk, but you'll see what I mean later tonight when I post pics.

    Re: PRYMER13's PVC EE-3

    Here is my follow-up:
-The main gun frame has been cleaned up with spot putty. I am adding the rear nibs on the back of the receiver tonight, and test fitting the hammer and triggers. Once I get that bondo out I'll also clean up the reveiver area near it's hing point, then I will prime everything.

-I spent about 30 minutes routing and chiseling out the area for the stock bracket. It came out better than I thought it would. I am going to hold off cleaning it up until I get my final bracket (aluminum).

-I also took this time to cut and shape my handle. The overall countour isn't exact, but I think it'll work for now. I am going to get some new blades and see if I can take some time to give it the "grip" knurling.

    More to come.

(P.S. anyone with extra gun greeblies please Pm me, I'll need the molex connecters, the stock greeblies, and the newly identified "hubs" for under the V-8 connecting rods.-THX)

Here are the current pics of my ever-long work in progress, sorry for the lack of forward momentum.

I have most of the shaping of the main gun finished. All that remains is to clean up the spot putty, mount the hammer, the trigger, give another good coat of PRYMER, then I am ready for paint...

That's great looking, and it's very informative too. Right now I'm on the fence as to whether I should try and make my own blaster or buy one. I'm leaning towards trying to make one, so this is extremely helpful. Just as an aside, I didn't realize the stock was that thick. That's a hunk of wood there!

Ok, sorry it's been so slow, but alas I have an update.

Trigger and hammer are in place and I have my *final* coat of primer on the base gun. Next I am counter sinking and screwing the scope mounting blocks on and then I begin the greeblie attachments, etc.

I should have a 1/4" soid aluminum stock bracket soon as well.

    Here she is...

    Re: PRYMER13's PVC EE-3

    Thanks guys...

I am planning on getting a sheet of 1/4"x12"x12" sheet aluminum from onlinemetals sometime in the next week and a half. Once it's in I'll be cuting and filing it down to the correct size.

Now that the main gun is done the next step is going to be replicating the scope mounting blocks and clamps. Any extra parts for sale would be greatly appreciated...

    More to come later...

Another slight update...I added paint, and brought it all together.
This will tide me over until I get the bracket shaped and get the misc. greeblies that I am missing. Once I get all of the greeblies placed, and everything together I'll weather it all at once.

for the stock I'd suggest Austrian Timber Oil, when done it will look like a finely polished peice of furniture (we use it on decks at work) also I was wondering if you might provide a list of tools used, I keep thinking about making one the same way you did because I can swipe all the scraps from work but then don't want to start because of my lack of tools.

Honestly bro, being a carpenter, I have just made due with what I have...most of the tools are relatively basic ones:

    -dremel
    -utility knive
    -chisel set
-Plasti-Cut file (the best made, hands down)
-set of three fast cut micro files
    -sand paper
    -mitresaw
    -pipe cutter
-BONDO, lots and lots of bondo

Yeah I'd say thats pretty cut and dry. Is the 1x6 trimboard also known as Azeks? That's the brand we get stuck with at work and I hate it a lot, it's all flimsy and slippery and sharp...yeah I hate it. Thanks

    Re: PRYMER13's PVC EE-3

    **UPDATE**

It's been a while, but here you go:
I added some scratch-built pulley's, my connecting rods, 4 molex connectors (THANKS LAAN!!), and a GREAT 1/4" solid aluminum stock bracket from HANKEY01...

I am modifying my stock and contemplating scratch-building some split plugs just so I can finish this thing.

Once I get the assembly mounted on the other side, then I'll coat everything again with several light coats of flat black...then the weathering...and I am DONE...well, after the stock greeblies are made.

That is looking great!! Were the pully drawings any use?

I have done a set of drawings for the split plugs in which I have broken it down in to 5 layers each 1/16th of an inch thick. Just cut out each layer and stack them up to create a copmplete plug. Let me know if you would like a copy.

THEY HELPED TREMENDOUSLY! You really helped me out... I had no reference at all for them, except your drawings. I'd love to get my hands on the cad drawings for the split plugs! I have a great CNC guy here that I can send the programs to...please keep me in the loop Alan. And thanks again for all of your input.

Sorry for the lack of posts...
I am going to stain the stock jacobean tonight and hit it with a clear coat.

I'll have pics up late tonight with everything BUT the stock greeblies.

Well, as LAAN knows I had to go pick up my brother last night so my update has been delayed.

Below you will see my almost finished PVC EE-3.
All I need are the stock greeblies and to finish my flashtube.

Alan was gracious enough to send me the CAD files last night so in the next three nights I'll construct, prime and install them. The Flash tube was cut last night and tonight I'll be adding the necessary slits, holes, etc.

Ok kids, the temperature in Virginia Beach is a balmy 93 with the heat index @ 102...and its after midnight!!!

The days have been in the 112-115 range with 60-70% humidity...so little work as far as the stock greeblies has been done.
Everything else is done and read though, barrell installed, weathered and I am quite pleased.

more slow progress...and a working camera finally!
I have two square blocks made, just put bondo on the corners (after this pic was taken.)

I'll have all greeblies painted black tomorrow night, and hope to have a silver "scrape/wash" coat by the weekend then this thread can finally be put to rest.

Thank you all so much for your compliments, support and help.
Thank you Alan for your countless hours on templates to help us Fetts that live on a budget.

*I'll be cleaning up those edge seams and recovering the split plugs as well*

You have one very nice blaster there. I love the stock, the wood grain looks great!! I guess I'll have to find a nice block of hardwood after seeing your and a few others pine simply won't do, nope won't do at all!

Always glad to be of assistance.

How did the spilt plug templates work out for you? What type of material did you end up using? So far I have only made a mocup out of cardstock. Your's came out looking excellent.

Thanks Alan, your compliments mean alot. I made it out of 3mm sintra. It's a little on the thick side, in hind-sight 2mm sintra or 1/16" styrene might have been better. Maybe next time

That mahogany stock was the one component on this thing that really got me moving on this.

    Final update! All is done!

Keep in mind that I still need a strap, but that is not a major need. This baby is going on a new display holder in the next couple of weeks.

Base gun is weathered, stock greeblies are weathered, stock is stained.
I may add some black mist to the stock, but as far as I am concerned I am FINISHED.

Thanks all for the encouragement and input!

    Re: PRYMER13's PVC EE-3

i dont understand what the big deal is with the old threads. Maybe wolf-bear wants to see a scratch build of a blaster...i dont see what difference it makes how old the thread is. (unless its a sale thread)If he just asked, people would say "use the search function" and when you do that and find an older thread and post in it, its like "this thread is "x" years old...sometimes i just dont get it. Maybe it would be better to just say something like,"this thread is kinda old wolf-bear,maybe try finding a newer thread to be sure your finding the most up to date info" it seems a little more welcoming to the newbies, which are usually the ones who bring up old threads. i dunno, justmy .02cents

personally, ive never seen this thread and found it quite interesting

Voorhees you make a valid point, but at the same time "this thread is three and a half years old" is also a direct answer to the question "why don't the pictures show up" As a photo hosted several years ago very well may not still be hosted where it was at that time. Yes in some situations the date of the thread may not matter, but when refering to why an image doesn't show up it is very relevent.
