Real nice progress there dude...Thanks for sharing!

I get a different story, whenever I take my WIP armor to work, my staff WANT to help me...they are intrigued about sanding and trimming...

Nice progress so far, keep it up.

I too took items to work on during my breaks and lunch, but my co-workers were more slack-jawed in sheer awe. They are all waiting anxiously for me to finish my costume so they can see it on Halloween. ( we do a staff costume contest every year ) :)

So keep up the good work.

What are you using? 3mm Sintra? How are you going to cover the edges? new to this, so I want to get all my questions out of the way before I attempt my own build.

Rytil.

also if you look at my helmet pic ill post it when its done but there is a product that autobody shop use called highbuild that smooths everything out as far as dents and scratches but idunno what they'd charge to spray your stuff. i got lucky and and my friend has some left over for me, aparently it will fill 40 grit scratches so when its done i guess it smooth like glass or more like a new car.

Thanks Cleavis. I have read that people were using Bondo. I have seen at a local store (Canadian Tire for the Canucks) a plastic bumper type bondo. Wondering if this would work better? Does the bondo adher well?

I've just found a place near by that will sell the PVC foam board (sintra like product apparently) for $32 for a 48x96" sheet! I was assuming would be more expensive. So, I'm going to pick up a sheet of 3mil this weekend and start on the helmet. I've been playing around with WOFs templates, just need to find something for the lid.

Did you use sintra for the helmet as well? How did you make the dome? A baseball helmet/skateboard or did you build it up?

Cheers,

Rytil.

well actually for the helmet i posted a pic of the bucket i used i got it from the restaurant where i work. WoF has templates for the dome.
then i used WoF templtes and build it up using bondo short strand fiberglass, then bondo bodyfiller to smooth it out.
i too was pleasantly surprised with the $40 price tag on my sintra because i'm working on a trooper at the same time and bought a sheet of abs and it was 110.
ya at canadian tire thats stuff it has a red car on the can i think walmart and home hardware also carry it.
Do you live in the Maritimes? if so we should hook up and build together.

Actually just around Toronto. I was looking at it to actually repair my truck's bumper, then got to thinking it may work for this project. Will have to check it out once I get to that stage. What type of adhesive are you using to keep the sintra together?

So you used the dome template with some fibreglass bond. I'll give it a go. I thought I could use one of my kids old styrofoam helmets, but the diametre is too small. Might got to Play-It-Again and find a used helmet.

You are building Stormie armor. I'd like to see your progress. Once I get Boba out of the way, my next project will be an /attempt/ at trooper armour.

I build up a few different parts from sintra, ut I do it slightly different.

i glue layers together, then use my grinding wheel to grind them into the shapes (when possible).

I havent found a good plastic based bond putty. I will go check for the plastic bondo you referred to.

Is it a 2 part mix, or in a tube?

Didn't actually open the box, but I'd imagine it would be a two part mix. I'll check it out later this week and see what the actual product name is.
