Possible jet pack harness?

Had a huge annual garage sale event this past weekend(30 stretch). Anyways, of course I am always looking for costuming stuff. I found a tree stand harness for $5 new in box. Looks like a possible jet pack harness. Its made by Ameristep, similar to this-

Looks pretty good so long as it's sturdy. You just got to figure out a way to get the clips in there if that's the way you plan on rigging it to your :jet pack

Yes, its very study. Its made to keep a person up to 250lb from falling from a tree, so I am sure it should hold a jet pack just fine I am thinking of wearing it backwards, with the buckle in the back. I think the cross in the front will help reduce sagging. I plan to sew on pieces of nylon to the shoulders on the harness and put the clips on the pieces. It will be similar to TK409's tutorial except I don't have to build the harness itself.

My only concern with doing that would be that if it does start sagging (which I really don't think it will), the cross may end up choking you or may end up coming up above your vest and showing.

I havent tried it backwards yet. I hope it works one way or the other. If not Im only out $5. Small drop in the bucket, compared to what this costume is costing me

remember - the secret to a good "load" bearing harness is to spread the weight out over a large area.

this prevents the "sharp" points (thin straps) from cutting into your skin.

BM did a nice job with his harness, the back has a large rectangle of something (sintra?) that all straps attach too.

so it helps distribute the load of the shoulder and chest straps over your upper/mid back.

Straps go over the shoulders and are attached to a chest strap.

two straps are on the bottom of the big rectangle piece and the go under (mid chest) to the same strap up front.

snap closure on front.

two straps extend off the back/top for the jet pack attachment.


left is the front facing part.


It's a pretty harness - which I will use for trooping in.

however, I am doing my "screen" accurate harness - but I will be using that for display only. (depending on how it feels once it's built).

This is exactly what I use. I attached some eye bolt to the harness and used an old gym bag strap attached to the jet pack. I am starting to change this to a
buckle system though.
