Official thread: jet pack glue & filler

WalMart sells a product in a silver tube called "All-Purpose Welder" in the paint section next to the epoxy. It can be used to glue plastic to plastic, and will even seal PVC (it's designed to repair PVC drain pipes!).

It claims to repair plastic items, glues broken bricks back together, glues metal on brick, glues weatherstripping on, mends wood, plastic, or metal, holds down carpet, repairs book bindings, glues PVC and ABS pipes, seals joints in swimming pools, glues loose or broken tiles, seals down spouts and gutters, locks nuts and bolts, caulk bath tubs, glues plastic trim back onto cars, seals windshields.... There's about a MILLION things you can do with this stuff! I think it was about $5.00 for the large 4 oz. tube.

You might want to check it out. :)

I tried that in the early days, but I didn't like the way that it dried, and usually, crumbled out of places that I had put it in. Squadron Putty works better for me in those instances. :)

The infamous glue guestion......

I know it has been asked before (probably by me) but one more time, is there one best glue/filler/adhesive to attach the armour (abs) together, fill the cracks and seams of the Jet-Pack? I need to really be sure those tanks are on the JP body before I close up the back.

Thanks

I can't say anything specific, but the glue and filler might be two very different things. It will be a combination of things you use to attach the tanks, and fill all the seams. I haven't worked with that material , so I can't tell you the best material.

for filling in seams and cracks i would reccomend JB WELD, comes in a four hour cure time, or like 12 hour. I used the four hour and the stuff is da bomb. Super strong and a great filler that can be sanded.

Does anyone know what kind of glue can be used on unpainted bondo? I wanted to try and glue on the "stubby" packs' blue detailed panels onto my unfinished jet pack body after i have bondo'd it. Is that possible?

Migrate wrote:I have alot of in progress pictures of the fiberglass packs. I can e-mail you some if needed.
I made a wooden frame for inside the pack and used Goop for adhesive plus drywall screws(recessed) to hold the backplate on. Then I used Bondo to cover the screws and make it all smooth.

I don't know who posted this but I would be VERY interested in seeing those pictures. Can you e-mail them to me at rfmccall@adelphia.net ?
Thanks

Hey my Bondo keeps cracking what am i doing wrong? Also good news is that Home Depots are going to start carring Bondo in the Midwest region! WOOHOO!

What is the bondo being used on? Bondo will fill a crack, but if the crack is not "secure" and can flex, the bondo will begin to crack. Bondo will not fix a crack. Maybe you could use some 5min epoxy instead. Or maybe the bondo is mixed incorrectly. Also BIG areas that need filling don't hold bondo well, it is better to fill it with epoxy then fill a small void with the bondo to smooth it off.
