Okay.. I'm trying to decide what I should do.. either make a close to the real thing (close is the key word) of the scope that is used on the MOM rifle.. or go out and by the real thing... well close to it. So if anyone of you have bought a scope... and lets say you got it at Walmart.. what type or name.. or model should I be looking for.. or be asking for??? Any pictures and or sites that might sell something close that you have used for your own rifle would be cool to see. Thanks

Tasco scopes have been a suggested standby by quite a number of propmakers for the rifle kits out there. Hope this helps!

Yea, go with a Tasco 4X15. It is around $10 after tax at Wally World and works great. Good Luck

Some Wal-Marts still have the $6.99 version but most of the Wal-Marts around here don't stock them any longer. Sports Authority had the Tasco on display but when I asked for a couple they handed me Bushnell's. I also ordered a couple of Tascos off an internet site and they sent me Bushnell's instead as well. Don't know whats up with that but the one Wal-Mart that used to stock them here quit stocking them about 3 weeks ago. They said they were not able to get them any more. The Bushnell's are exactly the same though so no worries.

Priced the scoop here in Canada... at Walmart.. and its $35.00.... ouch... well ouch since I think I can make mine out of wood and stuff.. to look pretty close to the real thing. Anyway... wish me luck...lol.. and I cannot remember who said it.. but they said the best part of a Fett suit is making it yourself.. and I guess that is a way to look at it and appreciate it more... rather then thinking on all the money spent on it.... I guess... lol

It is an ASI 4x20. If you find a source, please share. Because this scope has been ellusive to say the least.

That sure looks like its a match. Does ASI stand for anything? I can't find that scope mfg on the internet. Would be worth spending some time looking for.

Well, I have been told for a LONG time that the Fett blaster is an ASI 4X20 scope. Well, I finally managed to snag one and hope to settle this theory once and for all.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...EBWA%3AIT&rd=1

As soon as I get the scope in (gonna be several weeks) I will post full comparisons. I hope my search for a good Fett scope is finally over, but we will see...

Not to be a doubting Thomas, but what about this one that DCB won? Not only does it look like the same one, but it is a Webley scope, you know, like Webley and Scott, or is this an ASI scope?

As promised here are the compares. Just want to point out, as far as I know this is LORDSANDY's discovery. I don't want anyone to think I made this discovery. All credit goes to him.

As you may notice the little angled plate at the bottom of the scope ring, that grips the scope mount is a bit short on mine. Fortunately this is a removeable part and I can easily have some machined to the right dimensions. Also, I apologize that some of the scaling and angles are a bit off.

I'd say we have a winner.

BTW, BobaFettish, the scope DCB snagged looks a little more like the two scopes seen on Dr Evazan's blaster which are ever so slightly different from what is seen on Fett's blaster. If DCB would move the scope rings a bit and take a better pic, I could tell you for sure.

Please excuse my ignorance on this subject, (been so busy with the rest of my suit that I haven't gotten a chance to do much blaster research yet) but is the ASI 4 X 20 a particularly difficult scope to find?? anyone know how long they were produced and possibly, in what quantity, (ie. were they a popular model???) I'm jast wondering if I should start visiting sporting goods stores in my area, or should I just save my gas money & go strait to ebay??? Great find there BB

Jango's kid , they seem to be relatively rare and can generally only be found on eBay. They are not particularly well built. Seem like a cheap model. The Tasco models found at pretty much any Wal_Mart are much more well built... but aren't accurate.

kurtboy, you are about the 6th person to say that... The next one that comes up on eBay should be VERY interesting to watch.

I would suggest you buy it if you can get it cheap. There are many old 4 x 20 scopes out there. I have several different types and the windage knobs/housing/screws can be interchanged if required... pick 'n mix to give the correct combination.

Hard to tell from the photo but it is exactly the same as brak's one above. The plastic ring infront of the rear bell is missing but I have plenty spare ones including vintage ASI ones

As Lordsandy said, every pic I have seen of ESB seems to confirm it is the same scope. Believe it or not, there appear to have only been a certain number of scopes used in SW but they were used again and again ana again. Apparently they had 20 of this scope, 10 of that scope and 15 of another scope...

I passed on that one because its not the correct style. The rear bell is completely different and the windage knobs are the wrong style.

Still, you got a nice pair of vintage scope rings for $25

I bought this of ebay on april 11... hoping it will ever get here... but uhw... is it accurate? looks accurate 2 me...

this is what the auction said:
The scope is the 1003 model and is new, unused and still in its original box. The scope is built to fit on ¾ inch grooves of air rifles and .22 rifles and comes with lens caps, scope mounts, and a black shiny finish. The scope also comes with a warranty from Simmons. You do not have to buy anything else to put a scope on you air rifle or .22 rifle with a grooved receiver.

Check the windage/elevation caps on the Nikko. All the Nikko's I have don't have the correct 'cone' shaped caps. Instead they have flat topped caps much like the Dr. Evazan / Bowcaster scopes.

What ya think about this one ?

I know, the brackets are not right, but otherwise it could work too for a ROTJ rifle, like a modern version.

Looks great! Nice find. Who is the manufacturer and how much are they costing?

In my post above there is a link to my scope drawings the one I did for Fett has some detailed drawings for the scope rings/mounts that might be useful if you want to make your own.

    Gday fellas,

look what this lil black duck found!!!

With the following adjustments Refer pic:

A: cut back .5 inch to match ASI scope end.
B: cut at points to seperate rail holders/brackets and position in proper places.

Unfortunantly at C the scope switches and mount are around the wrong way but ill settle on that!!!

For those the model and make is a Zodiac 4x20 and it is made in Japan picked it up at a local gun shop here in Oz.

    Cheers,

    Al

    Hello,

Congrats on the score! As for the drawings one thing to consider is that the drawings were done strickly by reverse engineering from photos and a few dimensions that folks sent me. I have never actually held a real scope in my hands. So I am not surprised that the drawings are a bit off. If you tell me what's off I will more than happy to update the drawings.

Hi Alan :thumbup , I also have a resin cast from an ASI that i got from sidewinder, your measurements are pretty close to this ,accounting for the normal reduction in casting, so i was wondering if there were two types of ASI 4x20. In particular mine is slightly longer die to the rear lens housing and the plastic covers that go over the addjustment screws are slightly different to as are the scope rings ,which i was hoping to modify to look like the actual ones . Does anyone else have one like this ?

On another note ,big respect to you for all your plans ,its an amazing and extremely helpful contribution you make for all us guys :thumbup if you ever need any measurements I would be very happy to help I Have -real sterling L2A3 ,visible V8 engine kit ,hengstler ,M38 scope etc etc !

    keep up the good work

    Re: Official Scope Thread

From my research I have found a number of variation in the scopes that are available. Weather they are all ASI scope is debatable as a number of manufactures sold similar scopes with minor changes, I suppose that it is even possible that they were all made by the same manufacturer and just distributed under a variety of brand names. Items like mounts and adjustment screw covers are the easiest to change and swap out or simple get lost and replaced.

The one referenced in your post above is a variation which is very close and can be made to look nearly identical to the screen use version, good find.

Personally I am going for the Fett look. I can't afford to purchase ever identical real piece of hardware so I'm stuck with scratch building. I bought a crossman scope that has the correct scope mounts but only has one end bell. I'll have to cast up a replacement.

Thanks for the compliment on the drawings. They have been a ball to create and I have met a lot of great folks in the process.

    Alan

P.S. I might have to take you up on the reference dimensions.

    Re: Official Scope Thread

I don't know if i fought anyone here over this scope i found on ebay.. so if i did. well. thanks for the good fight.

Anyway.. Eventhough it is not an ASI scope i think that this is a darn good runner up for the "most accurate" award.

it is a 4x20 scope from Sussex Armoury and the more i look and compare the pics to the scope i have the luckyier i feel. Anyway.. here are the pics. I have Sidewinders resin scope from his kit to compare.

The total length of the scope i 11 inches. It would be intresting to compare it to the actual prop.

    Re: Official Scope Thread

There were more than a few manufacturers back when these scopes were made and they look identical. I belive, if memory serves correct, that the ASI 4x20 is the more readily available and sure bet of getting the "correct" scope. The other renditions of it are just as accurate.

About the only difference I see on your score is the tips of the scope knobs are a bit more tapered.....

    Nice score

Good find. Re length, don't forget that the eyepiece bell screws in/out for focusing and can drastically alter the overall length.

    Re: Official Scope Thread

inspired by this i went poking around on ebay. while i didn't get anything nearly as cool as that, i found a random 4x15 scope with nice looking rings.

the scope rings on my tasco 4x20 have always been my #1 complaint... taper on the knobs, angle of the taper on the ends... those are fairly subtle. the rings are just all wrong.

so for $20 i got new ones, and i'm much happier! i still have to weather them to match the gun, but here they are:

while still a bit too stubby... a $9 tasco scope and a $20 vintage scope combined form a decent looking thing for cheap.

there's an ebay store, big daddy scopes, that has a bunch of vintage stuff... might be worth watching for a good buy!
