Here is a list with all the colors I used for my costume.
-Tamiya Camel Yello for jet pack, knee pads, shoulder armor
-Tamiya British green for armor and upper cheeks
-Tamiya RAF Dark Green for doom in lower cheeks
- a mix-up between a Tamiya red and a brown for helmet , gauntlets and jet pack

Thanks for the nice words. And thanks for the great pack Sleezy, not sure why you let it go, but i'm glad you did I'm uploading some more pictures now, unfortunately I still haven't found the last color I need (rustoleum catepillar yellow).

I just spent a few hours last night and a few more hours today doing the weathering on that thing....sitting around the computer with the Boba Fett reference CD pics of the UK exhibit. Finally got around to working on it.

Wed night I weathered the left gauntlet.
Thurs night I weathered the right gauntlet.
Fri night and today I weathered the jet pack.

I also just came back from getting some automobile glass cleaner, so now I'm about ready to start working with the RS dirtying technique. That's the project for the rest of the weekend, amongst other things. It won't be as dead on accurate as the Rogue Studios or Motorfish painting could be, but I do love the new colors. It's like getting a whole new pack without getting a whole new pack!

I'm about to paint my second Jet Pack. From all the pics I have I can't really tell whether the paint is Matt or Gloss. On my last one I used mainly gloss but dulled it down when finished so it was kind of semi gloss!!

Any thoughts?

Here are my ROTJ paint pics. I am not completely finished. I am about 90% done with the paint. All I need to do is dirty it up and finish painting the rocket and the thrusters. Please tell me what you think and what I can do to make it look better. No holding back tell me what you really think. Also what is a good way to make it look dirty.

looking good. a little more weathering on the blue and white sections would be good, and going by the RefCD pics from MoM, the yellow looks more in tact than what you've got. What colors did you use? I'm about at the same level of being done as you, I just need to get new pics up. As far as dirtying it up, i'm interested in knowing that as well, misting of black? paint flicked with a toothbrush? I'm thinking of using layerd acrylics (black and various shades of brown) in the seams between colors to simulate dirt and rust, but that isn't incredibly accurate, but I've seen it done on other props and I like the way it looks...

I know the yellow is a bit more weathered that it should. But I wanted to go for more of a, after the sarlac pit look. I used ace hardware spray paint on it. The paint works great and is easy to scrap off. I know it is not as dark as the reference pics. Also the actual yellow was more orangeish. But I have also seen the toys and other reference pics that show the yellow being like mine.

I have started on my jet pack but still have a lot of work to do on it. I have a few questions for the board.
1.) Should the jet pack be primered?
2.) What order in colors should be applied?
3.) should all the little parts be attached first or after the paint job is done? I assume some like to canister tops should go one first?
4.) how do I get a harness system attached inside the jet pack so I can attach a backplate before painting?
5.) Some people have a removable rocket. How do you attach it so it can be removed?

I have a very simalr jet pack to yours. First I would glue it all together first. There is going to be alot of sanding because you want to try to make it look like there are no seams. Then you will wan to build your inner structure, I used a wood inner structure, I screwd it in where the caps are, then I glued the caps on so that you could not see the screws. Then you want to attach what ever type of straps you want to use. Then attach the back plate. I glued and screwed mine on. Then I gave it a good sand and then I primered it. After that I painted it silver so that I had a nice silver undercoat for the weathering. The first color I started out with was blue, then yellow, white and then red. Do keep in mind, tapeing it up takes alot of time, so do not get frustrated. Then after I painted everything up, I weather it by sanding off the regular paint. I also used a screw driver to chip off the paint. Then after that was done I used some silver ang grey model paint to weather it more. I can get some pics of my finished pack up soon if you want. I did post some almost finished pics earlier. But my pack looks alot better now than it did in those pics. When you put your pack together you will get frustraited, but it is worth it in the end.
