My jet pack is all but finished. Rather than use the solid resin jets (the cone things), chaucer recommended I use spray bottles. I have searched Meijer, Target, WalMart, Michael's, Lowe's, etc. and have yet to find anything that is the correct size and taper. I need to have this JP done for C2. In other words, I need suggestions NOW. As a last resort, I will use the resin ones that came with it. HELP!

You will have to venture into the bowels of Kmart. Good luck. It's the only place I've ever found them. One Kmart will have none of them, another Kmart will have 40.

edit: Oh, one other thing. On my last jet pack, I couldn't find the right spray bottles at the time. I bought two of those airwick air freshener cone things. Cut off the bottom, drill a big hole in the top, sand off the raised design, and it worked better than the spray bottles. Of course, now I have several spray bottle sitting around. Too bad you don't live in SoCal. At least your jet pack could smell garden-fresh.

Tell what I used...I was at Walmart looking for the very same thing but had no luck. Then I started looking for things that were similar in shape...a wiffle bat. If you look for a BIG orange bat with one of those over sized balls you've found it. And to top it off it's only like three bucks! Anyway, you only use the portion that tappers up toward the handle, you'll see what I am talking about once you get the bat. Just be sure that make correct measurements so you get the cone to match up with the resin ball. Good Luck:]

Thanks Lisa. I went straight to K-Mart and there they were in the health and beauty department. For anybody else who is searching for these, they are transparent colored plastic with a matching color sprayer (I got yellow ones). The UPC sticker on the bottom read J-60 High Tech Sprayer. The great part is that they were only $1.99 each. I am almost positive that this is what GA used for their molds.

I remember seeing a thread over the Jet Pack jets, and that People found a squirt bottle that made perfect for the jets. But the only place to buy them was at Kmart. Here in OK, all Kmarts went outta buisness, but i picked up 2 at walmart yesterday, for 1.50. They are really good. Hopefully i just might have helped one person with this useless thread.

I used spray bottles from Walmart also. I believe they were around the same price. They are okay but I would rather have the resin parts. Anyone have any for sale or trade?

When I made my jets, I used a plastic sphere from the craft store, they come in different sizes, you can cut out the center and use a small plastic cup like from Pepto, or there are also little craft cups. I also cast these and then made them out of fiberglass, but you could just leave the plastic and maybe fill them with expandible foam to give them rigidity. The plastic spheres come apart in two halves, so it was easy to cut out the holes.

I remember seeing a post on AYW where someone found a baby toy that looked pretty **** close to the real thrusters. They even had the center detail.

i went to a local craft store and bought 2 clear plastic ornamet balls and used the tops off of pepsi bottles (16oz,)cutting the tops just under the ring, the bottle tops had the nice swirly pattern that i thought would give a little diff perspecrive o the pack

aluminum cups i have .I beleive they are the ones used for mixing drinks you can find them at k-mart or jc penny these are just fine for my project .Althoug some cutting need to be done at the bottoms to give them the proper lenght and accurate look.

those spraybottles are exactly what I used to mold. Just cut the bottoms off and trim up a little and there you go..

WHenever I get around to remastering the nozzles AGAIN, I'm going to include those line indents. For now, you need to take a dremel to these cones.

But I NOW cast them hollow!!

Motorfish, the bottles you posted are not the same as many people have used in the past. They might be the same size, I couldn't tell without a comparison picture. The ones most people used are cones that become straight cylinders and then go on to the bottom. Just an FYI.

I used glade air freshners. The ones where you pull the top up a little to let the smell come out. The air freshner is a solid gel like stuff. The styrofaom balls i used on the side are to big but the cone looks about right.

I'm using wooden balls and two cones made from thick plastic mini-cheerleader megaphones that look to be about the right size and shape. The small end is open, though, and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on connecting them to the balls?

    Thanks!

Thanks. Sounds too easy, though. I was going to try drilling into the ball a bit, too, to insert part of the cone. I want this thing to be relatively stable.

Run some wood screws into the ball inside the cone before you JB Weld, That will give the JBW something to "grab".

I'm using wooden balls I found at Hobby Lobby. They're still pretty light, but should hold up better than thin plastic or paper mache.

As long as you use a good primer, the wood grain won't show throw. Do two or three good coats of primer, sanding well between each coat, of course.

thanks propreplicator!!!the wooden balls sound like the most durable idea yet.with the plastic there just doesnt seem like there much of a glueing surface.im going this afternoon and look for some wooden ones.

i swear, sometimes finding just the right parts can be soooo time consuming, but its a great feeling when you do.

Are we talking ESB or ROTJ? For mr ROTJ jet pack, I went with an off white paint so my whites would look older. It was Almond by Rustoleum. That part is the most weathered part of the pack with a lot of grey, and black misting, and chrome chipping of course.

Here you can see the difference in the colors.

on the ESB pack they are the same color as the rest of the pack.

    Super Jet Pack man!

Hey...I noticed something that struck me as pretty **** funny.
In you #27 picture of the top of the rocket I noticed that it looks
like you painted a very subtle image of santa clause with sunglasses
on. Mind you, I'm coming off a long day at work with only three and
a half hours of sleep before that...so it's a good bet that I'm seeing
    things.

    Still pretty funny, though.

Humm, when it looked like it could be gray, or silver, or dirty...I mixed silver with light grey, enough so it gave it a slight metallic look, then once it had dried, I took some black and whiped the thing down to weather it a bit, concentrated it a bit more on the bottom for that oh so subtle charred look

I painted mine Rustoleum Aluminum (7737 I think). I took flat black spray paint and sprayed 'puffs' inside of the jets for that sooty look. It gave the bottoms (on the outside) a nice smoked look. I then took some gray primer and did a light mist from a few feet away, and finally some flat black acrylic paint (mixed with a touch of gray) and did the rag-smear thing for weathering. This is pretty much how I weathered all of my armor. I can't post any new pics tonight, but you may be able to see some pics of me sporting my jet pack on Brak's Dragon Con pic link. I haven't had the chance to look through all of them, but I know he snapped a few.

I haven't started painting my jet pack yet, but the pictures I saw looked like they might be more of a pewter-ish color (think Tampa Bay Bucs colors) than aluminum. I could be way off with the shade due to the lighting in the picture, but I'm going to try and find a less "silver" metallic color to use. And then of course weather the **** out of it.

    Merged: Thruster colors

I noticed that a lot of people paint the JP in different ways. This time I'm talking about the thrusters. I've seen some people paint it either silver or white, but in the pictures from the MoM of the real Bob Fett Jet Pack thrusters and it looks like the outside color is either a really light pale OD green or some other type of silver, like pewter or metallic gray with the usual scratches and dents showing the silver underneath, which makes our favorite Bounty Hunter famous and unique.

My point is which is the actual color of the Jet Pack thrusters??? Please, somebody let me know.

I'd say they are either gray or silver with a good dose of black weathering. Here's the real deal.

Ohhhhhh, the ESB jet pack's thrusters. From the few color reference pics of that particular jet pack, I'd agree with you that they are probably the same shade of green as the rest of the pack. Judge for yourself.

I bought the Glade Air Freshners (actually the cheaper brand "Rezunit"), but they're great, they are even stronger than a spray or soda bottle, even though you have to sand them as well (fine grit sandpaper) to erase the designs in the outside, and by the way...they were .85¢ each, which is not bad at all. I still have the resin nozzles to sell or trade, if anyone's interested and wants them.

Merged: Merged: Possible Thruster Nozzle for Scratchbuilds

Hey, gang. I was wandering around the local Target today looking for inspiration, when I saw an advertised "New at Target" display on an end-cap in the cleaning section.

It's a hoighty-toighty looking dishsoap that comes in different scents like mint or mandarin. It's called Method, I believe, or something starting with an "M".

Anyway, it starts as a ball on top, then becomes a truncated cone at the base. It is possible to get a four and a half inch long by three an a half inch wide cone from the thing(yes, I carry a tape measure almost everywhere I go). Or any variation smaller by cutting accordingly. The price is a bit steep; 3.49 US if I remember right, but your dishes will smell real purty for a long time with all that designer dishsoap.

If anyone sees these and is better versed on the scale of the j/p, please advise here. I'm sure many of us would appreciate it. Thanks.

My jet pack nozzles are made from the upper halves of spray bottles, and I'm looking for a way to add a little detail to the INSIDE of the nozzle.

I've seen some prop-makers who added details with what looks like auto parts/gaskets/gears, to make the inside a little more 'rocket-looking'.

    Any ideas? What was used?

I used the bottom of the "air fresheners", filed and shaped the squares there, sand or cut the lettering it has in the bottom, and glue it to the inside of the nozzle. Here's mine,

Hope this helps you. BTW...is cheaper ( ¢.90 each), besides, will leave your JPack smelling sooooooooo good!

That's a pretty good idea, Robert. Can you imagine have air actually channeled through the nozzles? You'd leave that clean, fresh scent, wherever you go!

I think that the picture you have is of an MB JP and I believe that for his details he use the outter ring from a set of undercabinet lights(see attached pic) and some PVC tubing.
I have a set of MB's thrusters just like the ones in your picture, only I added a piece of screen material to the inner/smaller circle for added detail. If you used the outter ring in yours, since it won't be solid resin like mine, you could add orange LEDs behind it to give it a cool glow like it's ready to fire up.
    Hopefully this was helpful.

Actually, I used some sort of PVC fitting for the inside detail of my nozzles in my kits (first pic). It was gray in color, but I don't remember what it was. I believe the center was another pvc part.

Well, I used the same automotive Gray Primer I used to prime everything as the color of choice, misting it a little bit with flat black for weathering, and then doing all the scratches with Testors silver. The black stripes I did them before the weathering.

You could use flat white, and misted lightly with grey (more grey than white) and then do the stripes and the weathering, but it's your choice. The actual automotive grey primer is the closest you could get, but you could lightly mist it with silver spray paint for shine of some kind...you're choice.

Bob, I used Testor's Model Masters Flat Gull Gray, in a spray can. I wanted something different than the any of the main colors of the pack, but not too gray. It might not be screen-accurate, but I like the color shade, kind of a gray-beige.

It's not very often in one's life that you get to say that to a group of people!!

I just got 'finished' my thruster balls, and couln't wait to put a pic up. These are made from styrofoam filled, plastic coated christmas tree bulbs (purchased at hobby lobby), air freshener cones, some pvc, cardboard and (of course) BONDO!

    My dirty ball :

Let's hope the rest of my scratch-pack turns out as accurate!

Yep, I've got to say, nice set of balls you have there!

In all seriousness, that is a very detailed piece. You are going to fool pretty much everyone with those puppies. Only those who bend down and inspect them really closely are going to notice any difference.

*checks post to make sure no dirty jokes possible* - bend down, inspect balls - Nope, pretty clean to me

    Nice work!

Sad part is, you probably made them in less time than what I've invested in trying cleaning up my MB balls.

That's right, you heard me people, I'm cleaning MB's balls!!

from 6.5 to 7 cm across, but unlike many (most) jet packs I see, mine is man-sized. I saw one pic of a jet pack with a helmet in a recent post and the thing looks like the perfect size...if you were planning to strap it to your helmet!!!

If people will look at the reference pics, they will see that the jet pack is shoulder with.
