Merged: ESB Blaster Greeble Found
Hey, Thanks to help from lonepigeon's awesome webpage The Parts of Star Wars, I was able to find a greeble for the ESB Rifle.
I picked up the Revell Visable V8 Kit on ebay for $9.99 :D
That was a great deal considering I see them go from $45 to $65. Here is a pic
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/lafonj/greeble5.jpg
It also has a ROTJ stock plate among a ton of other Star Wars items, http://www.partsofsw.com/v8parts.htm
Here is a pic of it:

Heh heh. Got the ESB rear chamber detail pieces as well as 4 of the 6 ESB stock plates and hopefullt have 1 of the small RotJ plates on the way. If anyone has one of the small RotJ stock plates listed above, please let me know! I need it!
BTW, not to try to steal this thread, but is there any interest in cast copies of the 4 ESB stock plates? They are the same pieces that are found on the neck of the Vader reveal. If there is deman and I can find a reliable source to cast them, I will be glad to make these available.

Well, I'm not even close to being ready to do an ESB Blaster, but, as someone said to me the other day (and I paraphrase): You can't wait until you're ready to get the best parts, you have to get them when they're available. :D
Put me down BB! :)

I have a mold of the connecting rods so I can make castings available to anyone who wants them. It's just a single sided mold so the back side would be flat. If anyone wants some resin copies just PM me.

I'm from the UK originally, and I've never seen any electrical plugs like that there before.
I was born in the early 70's and right from a little boy I went to work with my father who was an electrician. As long back as I can remember, they've been the 3 rectangular pin type plugs, which don't look anything like the ones pictured.
Either they're a really old type (ie: probably outdated in the 50's) or they're a European plug.
Steve
-
Merged: Re: ESB blaster stock plates?
Ooops, might not be UK specific plugs, but I do recall them being European...sorry for the confusion. They are opened in half and laid flat on the stock. They are quite old and were once found at a TV or radio repair shop if memory serves. I might be able to get a pic of one and post it later this evening.
The middle piece remains a mystery and has been rumored as possibly an old math co-processor or perhaps part of a model ship deck.

Okay, just a quicky.
When I said that the pin numbering was different, I'm very pleased to say I was wrong. After looking more closely at DrMaul's reference image of the block on the Hoth Rebel Blaster, the pin numbering is identical - the amount of paint on top of the blaster was throwing me off.
These connectors are 100% identical to the original used parts! :cheering

<font color="#ff0000">UPDATE: Tuesday 4th March, 2003
I'm having problems getting hold of these connectors as they are not available in the US without a special order.
They are manufactured by the European division of Tyco Electronics/AMP and are made for that market (which makes sense, as the Star Wars props were built in England).
My regular supplier, who is a major distributor of Tyco/AMP products has quoted me a minimum order of 1000x items - which is crazy, since so far only around 250x are required. If this is the only route available, then the cost would rise to $15 per set, otherwise I'd be making a high loss.
At the moment, I am contacting European electronics suppliers to see about ordering 300x from abroad and having them imported into the US.
It appears that the cost of each connector is likely to increase, depending on the supplied quote and import duties. I have no idea of this increase yet, but I'm doing everything I can to keep it as low as possible.

ESB Blaster blocks... <font color="#ff0000">Identified. (NOT A MOLEX 42022-6)
This is an interest thread that Ob1Kenny of the RPF suggested I start.
I've been searching for various Star Wars prop parts for the past few months and have managed to find a much better match for the electrical connectors that were used on the sides of Boba Fett's ESB blaster (4 x were fitted to the scope mounts).
Previously, the best that could be found was a Molex #42022-6, but the Molex is quite different. The new connector is virtually identical when compared to Lonepigeon's measurements - it even has the correct latching tabs.
<A HREF="http://ecommas.tycoelectronics.com/commerce/DocumentDelivery/DDEController?Action=showdoc&DocId=Customer+Drawin g%7F163035%7FB%7Fpdf%7FEnglish%7FENG_CD_163035_B.p df" TARGET="_blank">Click on the image to view the original PDF drawing...
http://steveday.org/BBimages/AMP_1-163035-0.gif</A>
The connector is an AMP .200" Commercial MATE-N-LOK 6 way pin-housing with a latch locking mechanism. AMP part# 1-163035-0.
Compared to Lonepigeon's (RPF again) measurements, this connector is within 0.045" on the length, and within 0.02" (at the most) on the other dimensions.
The only difference I can see is that pins 1-3 are in the opposite order, while pins 4-6 are the same. This may be a change that was made to the product over the years.
Sadly, it's only available in the "natural" (whiteish) color, instead of black, so they will need to be painted.
....
Now, I'm about to place an order for some electronic parts that I need and Kenny suggested that if there was enough interest I should place a bulk order and sell them to members of the RPF.
I need to get an idea of how many I should order - 100x is the minimum for a discount, with 500x being the next discount level up.
I guess people can paint them themselves, but if you'd like me to paint them then say so.
So - who is interested for 4x connectors or more ?
(This is not the actual selling list, but just an idea of how many I need to order).
Does $5 for a set of 4x, including first class S&H sound reasonable? <font color="#ff0000">Final price pending. See above updates.
Best wishes

I haven't got the connectors yet, so I'm unable to weigh them to get a more accurate idea of shipping to the UK, but a guestimate of their weight and the USPS calculator shows about an extra $3-$4 - so an all in estimate is $8 to $9 per set of 4x.

Merged: EE-3 greeblies
Hi all,
I've done some searching and found some info, but not a definitive list of parts and sources thereof.
I'm trying to gather data on the greeblies which appear on the EE-3 in it's 2 incarnations. I need the info myself, but thought it would also be helpful if the data could be organised into one place that could act as a point of reference and be updated as and when new discoveries occur.
So far my understanding is as follows:
The stock in the ESB versions has 2 sides of an as yet unidentified plug, plus an unidentified square piece between them on both sides of the stock.
The stock in the RotJ version has 2 unidentified greeblies, the same on both sides, but different to those on the ESB version.
The body of the gun, just under the hammer, has a push rod from the Revell V8 engine on both sides, but only in some shots in ESB, so both with and without could be accurate depending on which ESB scene you look at.
The scope mounts for ESB consist of the blaster blocks (found parts - cheers Steve), as yet unidentified rings and as yet unidentified blocks or square tubing between the blaster blocks.
Can those in the know comment upon this and LMK if what info I have so far is correct. If it is not, please correct me, and if I have missed anything out, please let me know.
I'd be VERY interested to hear from anyone who has the found parts for any of these (except the blaster blocks, which I have covered), or any one of our talented members who have created a screen accurate copy of any or all of them. PM me if you would be so kind ;)
I may have some bits covered as well as the blaster blocks once the very kind individual in question has unpacked whichever box they are in following his house move, but I won't know which bits until he does, so chuck what you've got at me, everybody, and I'll pick up the bits from there.
Many thanks for your time ladies and gents.
Carry on.

That's the curious thing. I'm in the UK, have lived here 32 years and have never see those plugs.
In my searches, Steveday mentioned he was brought up over here, and was an electricians son, accompanied dad on all sorts of jobs, and he's never seen them either.
Does anyone have a make, or model number, or a contact address/tel no for the maker/supplier (assuming they are still available)?
If not, back to my original questions.....

Merged: Re: EE-3 greeblies
My guess is the plugs were for electronics applications not for household wiring. They are pretty small and judging by the pin size would only be good for thin wires. I've been able to pick up several of these plugs off the boards here and there. They always shipped from the UK.

Merged: Re: EE-3 greeblies
I believe the "push rods" are always on the ESB, though I don't think it's ever been proven that they're on BOTH sides.
Only one stock greeblie on the ROTJ has been identified (the forward one) it's V8 kit part #92 -Starting Gear Case Cover (1977 model kit or earlier only).
The "split plugs" are actually AM aerial/earth connectors from European radio tuners. So far only the FM type have been found (pictured above)- the only difference is the shape of the prong holes.
I also have these being cast right now (only 'cause no one else seemed to have them and I needed two more).

I was thinking about the "push rod" or connecting rod (which ever you know it as) for the ESB Blaster and where it is located. My thought was this...Maybe when ILM put it together they were thinking about a "safety" switch for the blaster and added the connecting rod with that function in mind. Thus it would only be on one side. Just a theory.

Merged: For the Hardware Lovers - Split Plugs from Styrene
Here is a quick an easy way to make a "hardware" split plug from styrene. Tools needed are an exacto knife, drill, some type of rotary tool (Dremel) or round file, glues, sandpaper, and Bondo filler.
I made some templates from a picture of the split plug (I think this image came from the RPF - sorry I'm not sure who posted it). These diagrams should line up over each other to create the depth you need to create the plug. The diagram should be 3.25" wide x 1.25" tall @ 100 dpi.

You'll need a sheet of 1/16" styrene. If you do not have access to a hobby shop, you can get some from Lowes or HD. I bought a big "for sale" sign to use.
Cut this part out first.

The holes in the center need to be drilled out. The dotted line boxes on the either side of it need to be left on there. This material will be removed with your Dremel or file.
Next, cut these 3 pieces out.

The holes need to be drilled out. The dotted line boxes on the either side of it need to be left on there. This material will be removed with your Dremel or file. I used super glue to attach these pieces to the base piece.
Next, cut out these 3 pieces.

The holes in the center need to be drilled out. I also used used super glue to attach these pieces to the base piece.
Now, you can sand and clean up the pieces. I used JB Weld to fill in the outside wall of the sections. This added extra holding power, and it is a good sandable surface you can shape and use to hide any bad cuts.
Take your Dremel tool (or file) and remove the dotted boxes. Refer to the first pic to see how the side are concave on the original piece.
Paint with primer.
Allow drying time and then fill anything that needs filling with the Bondo filler.
Sand again, and repaint.
If I can borrow a digicam, I'll post a pic or two of mine.
Any questions or comments, feel free to post.

Seems like this would be a nice sunday project and would add some detail to my ESB blaster.I only have the basic shape cut out from styrene and glued to my blaster, but it looks too plain.Im going to give this a try :D
