    1)Scope

    2)Scope rings

3)Square stock with the six holes on both sides of the scope rings

    4)Barrel rings:these are some kind of hose clamp,but that's all I know.

5)Stock plates:four of these are the UK plugs, but the middle plate is still a mystery.

There is probably some info. that will be easy to peice together, but if we can solidify any theory's out there it will help give us all difinitive proof of what was used.

    What we know so far:
White plastic (painted black for Vader)
There are two icons within round circles on the ridged sections seen in the white pics. One looks like a chicken foot or peace sign and the other is a "T" with an additional parallel line above it.
The two depressions in the center are where the pins of the plug would protrude out- one vertical, one horizontal.

I'm not sure there are two Connecting Rods on the blaster. No proof yet.

There are two sets of side details on the stock. The details on the other side are set more forward (see Chronicles page203).
The rifle posted above, though it's in progress, needs a few corrections. The stock details are too large or at least positioned too far back. The scope is mounted too far back- the front scope base band actually goes around the MPP tube not the gun (the bands are a bit too wide also). The MPP tube should stick out much farther as well.

I've researched this gun quite a bit and will soon have my own. I'll be able to help more once I get mine.

Keep in mind this gun was built to be taken apart again. Bapty wasn't about to wreck a Webley for it. This is why the front scope base ring is bolted to the MPP not the gun.

Since most of us are going to be aquiring an AWESOME replica Webely No1 Mk1,or some of us were lucky enough to aquire a real Webley No1 Mk1 maybe we can start looking into the few details needed to finish disecting the ESB EE-3.

We now know that the "square stock" is a "Molex" type connector with .187 pin size that Chris Trevas has blueprinted on his thread at RPF.

The scope has been identified thanks to Lordsandy at RPF as an "ASI 4x20" scope.I'll have to look into the rings to be sure of their manufacturer.

The barrel rings,or type of clamp used as such still needs identified,as well as the large middle stock plate.

Maybe we can get some interest stirred, and some good 'ol fashioned research going to unwind these mysteries.

agreed! I'm working pretty hard to cast some replicas but all the while I'm looking to finish my own blaster as well.

I'm under the impression that the clamps are hose clamps. The two points on the underside of the barrel show where you push it together with you fingers. Has anybody used these on thier blaster? Also, has anybody any ideas what is used to mount the scope and plugs on? Just 'blocks' seem kind of low effort.

The other item to note in the Bespin Hallway publicity pics there is a revell V-8 connecting rod on the side of the gun near the hammer while in the carbon chamber it is gone. The hose clamps appear to be spring type, I think that is what you are referring to HS for the ends that point downward from the barrel. I scavenged a pic from the McMaster Carr website as they offer what I would consider a similar style clamp. -Mark

Lynn found the right scope mounting clamps somewhere. It may have been from BobaDebt. Here they are on the K-mart brand scope he recently sold on eBay.

I was able to find an alternative scope for the ESB gun that is currently available on ebay. The ROTJ scope is longer than the one used on the ESB gun. The scope is a Simmons 4X20, Here is a pic on how it compares to the rest of the gun

    fettcicle,is the "Simmons 4x20" a ROTJ scope?

Now I'm not sure if Lordsandy found the scope for an ESB,or ROTJ.I wrote down the "ASI 4x20",and was positive it was for an ESB,but now I'm second guessing myself.

Does anyone have a connecting rod to cast up,or some spares to sell?

I've scratch-built some parts for the ESB blaster and had them all molded in fiberglass - infact even my blaster is made out of fiberglass (3 big pieces -gun, barrel & stock)

Unfortunately, dont have the know-how to post pics here...so if there's anyone who woukld like to see 'em or would like to post here - kindly send me an e-mail & I'll send you some pics.

    You Got Mail!

I'd be glad to help you post the pics...and would love to see what your ESB looks like.

Boba Phett, Yeah that clamp looks to me like its what was used on the barrel, only I can't believe the propmakers would use something so cheezy! I have tons of those things of various sizes laying in the junk pile behind my Dads mechanich shop! Any idea what the size is?

Well, if it fits a Webley, it's a good bet that it's the right size. actually the diameter is roughly 1.75"

Is there any place that sells those clamps? An on-line store perhaps?

Man, those clamps remind me alot of the hose clamps that came on my 73 Mach 1 Mustang 351C CJ.An awful lot...

Unfortunantly, had to sell the car this past summer...after 20 years...

McMaster Carr industrial distributors sells the clamps online. These particular ones which are close but, not perfect. They are most likely now made by Norma Clamp in the UK. This style of clamp has been around for at least 30 years in the auto industry. They are typically found on radiator hoses and such on real cars as well as other heating and air conditioning type devices. I have the rod type spring variation version as orginal equipment on my 71 Challenger R/T (McMaster also has this style on the same page of the catalog). The ones on the gun are the flat band type. Notice the ones on the gun have no opening in the side like the sample pic I posted. They do make sizes that'll work over the gun. The only question is how do they mount the scope brackets to them? The two clamps just slip over the flash tube and onto the gun barrel itself. But they provide no mounting location for the scope brackets. Other than a place to spot weld onto the clamp without permanently welding onto the gun. If you look at what they added to the gun in ESB it is all removable. Someone earlier mentioned that the prop house loaned the gun out to LFL for the movie then probably took it back and undid the mods. By the time ROTJ came out they just went with a casting of the base gun so they could alter it more permanently without having to pay for a real Webley. -Mark

    Mark,
Maybe there were some sort of "tabs" that were affixed to the scope mounts(Molex connectors included)and they went under the hose clamps and held the scope on....front,and back mounts. It would seem rather crude, but I'm trying to figure out how they could have done it.Granted a spot weld would have worked, and been best, but there would be potential damage to the weapon if it was ideed on loan.If it was all originally put together with the intention of being taken apart, the methods would probably have been fairly crude, and since Fett didn't have even alot of screen time in ESB the EE-3 wouldn't have to hold together as solid as a rock, which is what we all want

    Thoughts???

I meant they would spot weld onto the clamps so as to not touch the gun. -Mark

So, it sounds like these clamps, put 'em on the barrel and spot weld the scope onto them and we're set?

There would still need to be some intermediate bracket to mount the Molex conectors and the the scope rings onto. This intermediate bracket would either be spot welded to the spring clamps or as DL44 mentioned slipped underneath the top of the spring clamp. -Mark
