1)Scope
2)Scope rings
3)Square stock with the six holes on both sides of the scope rings
4)Barrel rings:these are some kind of hose clamp,but that's all I know.
5)Stock plates:four of these are the UK plugs, but the middle plate is still a mystery.
There is probably some info. that will be easy to peice together, but if we can solidify any theory's out there it will help give us all difinitive proof of what was used.

What we know so far:
White plastic (painted black for Vader)
There are two icons within round circles on the ridged sections seen in the white pics. One looks like a chicken foot or peace sign and the other is a "T" with an additional parallel line above it.
The two depressions in the center are where the pins of the plug would protrude out- one vertical, one horizontal.

I'm not sure there are two Connecting Rods on the blaster. No proof yet.
There are two sets of side details on the stock. The details on the other side are set more forward (see Chronicles page203).
The rifle posted above, though it's in progress, needs a few corrections. The stock details are too large or at least positioned too far back. The scope is mounted too far back- the front scope base band actually goes around the MPP tube not the gun (the bands are a bit too wide also). The MPP tube should stick out much farther as well.
I've researched this gun quite a bit and will soon have my own. I'll be able to help more once I get mine.
Keep in mind this gun was built to be taken apart again. Bapty wasn't about to wreck a Webley for it. This is why the front scope base ring is bolted to the MPP not the gun.

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Since most of us are going to be aquiring an AWESOME replica Webely No1 Mk1,or some of us were lucky enough to aquire a real Webley No1 Mk1 maybe we can start looking into the few details needed to finish disecting the ESB EE-3.
We now know that the "square stock" is a "Molex" type connector with .187 pin size that Chris Trevas has blueprinted on his thread at RPF.
The scope has been identified thanks to Lordsandy at RPF as an "ASI 4x20" scope.I'll have to look into the rings to be sure of their manufacturer.
The barrel rings,or type of clamp used as such still needs identified,as well as the large middle stock plate.
Maybe we can get some interest stirred, and some good 'ol fashioned research going to unwind these mysteries. :)

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
agreed! I'm working pretty hard to cast some replicas but all the while I'm looking to finish my own blaster as well.
I'm under the impression that the clamps are hose clamps. The two points on the underside of the barrel show where you push it together with you fingers. Has anybody used these on thier blaster? Also, has anybody any ideas what is used to mount the scope and plugs on? Just 'blocks' seem kind of low effort.

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
The other item to note in the Bespin Hallway publicity pics there is a revell V-8 connecting rod on the side of the gun near the hammer while in the carbon chamber it is gone. The hose clamps appear to be spring type, I think that is what you are referring to HS for the ends that point downward from the barrel. I scavenged a pic from the McMaster Carr website as they offer what I would consider a similar style clamp. -Mark

Lynn found the right scope mounting clamps somewhere. It may have been from BobaDebt. Here they are on the K-mart brand scope he recently sold on eBay.

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
I was able to find an alternative scope for the ESB gun that is currently available on ebay. The ROTJ scope is longer than the one used on the ESB gun. The scope is a Simmons 4X20, Here is a pic on how it compares to the rest of the gun http://photos.imageevent.com/fettcic...aesblaster.jpg
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Got a close-up of those mounting clamps?
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
fettcicle,is the "Simmons 4x20" a ROTJ scope?
Now I'm not sure if Lordsandy found the scope for an ESB,or ROTJ.I wrote down the "ASI 4x20",and was positive it was for an ESB,but now I'm second guessing myself.
Does anyone have a connecting rod to cast up,or some spares to sell?

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
I've scratch-built some parts for the ESB blaster and had them all molded in fiberglass - infact even my blaster is made out of fiberglass (3 big pieces -gun, barrel & stock)
Unfortunately, dont have the know-how to post pics here...so if there's anyone who woukld like to see 'em or would like to post here - kindly send me an e-mail & I'll send you some pics.

Boba Phett, Yeah that clamp looks to me like its what was used on the barrel, only I can't believe the propmakers would use something so cheezy! I have tons of those things of various sizes laying in the junk pile behind my Dads mechanich shop! Any idea what the size is?

Well, if it fits a Webley, it's a good bet that it's the right size. actually the diameter is roughly 1.75"

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Is there any place that sells those clamps? An on-line store perhaps?

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Man, those clamps remind me alot of the hose clamps that came on my 73 Mach 1 Mustang 351C CJ.An awful lot...
Unfortunantly, had to sell the car this past summer...after 20 years... :(
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
McMaster Carr industrial distributors sells the clamps online. These particular ones which are close but, not perfect. They are most likely now made by Norma Clamp in the UK. This style of clamp has been around for at least 30 years in the auto industry. They are typically found on radiator hoses and such on real cars as well as other heating and air conditioning type devices. I have the rod type spring variation version as orginal equipment on my 71 Challenger R/T (McMaster also has this style on the same page of the catalog). The ones on the gun are the flat band type. Notice the ones on the gun have no opening in the side like the sample pic I posted. They do make sizes that'll work over the gun. The only question is how do they mount the scope brackets to them? The two clamps just slip over the flash tube and onto the gun barrel itself. But they provide no mounting location for the scope brackets. Other than a place to spot weld onto the clamp without permanently welding onto the gun. If you look at what they added to the gun in ESB it is all removable. Someone earlier mentioned that the prop house loaned the gun out to LFL for the movie then probably took it back and undid the mods. By the time ROTJ came out they just went with a casting of the base gun so they could alter it more permanently without having to pay for a real Webley. -Mark
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Mark,
Maybe there were some sort of "tabs" that were affixed to the scope mounts(Molex connectors included)and they went under the hose clamps and held the scope on....front,and back mounts. It would seem rather crude, but I'm trying to figure out how they could have done it.Granted a spot weld would have worked, and been best, but there would be potential damage to the weapon if it was ideed on loan.If it was all originally put together with the intention of being taken apart, the methods would probably have been fairly crude, and since Fett didn't have even alot of screen time in ESB the EE-3 wouldn't have to hold together as solid as a rock, which is what we all want ;)
Thoughts???
Steve
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
I meant they would spot weld onto the clamps so as to not touch the gun. -Mark
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
So, it sounds like these clamps, put 'em on the barrel and spot weld the scope onto them and we're set?
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
There would still need to be some intermediate bracket to mount the Molex conectors and the the scope rings onto. This intermediate bracket would either be spot welded to the spring clamps or as DL44 mentioned slipped underneath the top of the spring clamp. -Mark
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Ahhh, okay, thanks Mark. btw, do we have a price on these scopes?
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Which scope? The Simmons or ASI? The Simmons you can find on Ebay. The ASI there is only one person who is known to have one and are impossible to find. -Mark
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
Okay, that sure narrows it down! :D
Thanks Mark!

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
-
Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
My current progress follows next, but firstly here's my original posting to the RPF I made last December...
[HOSE CLAMPS]
Currently, I'm still looking for self-tightening hose clamps that don't have the cut away sections on each side - I've been trawling through the tools at Pawn shops, but have only been able to find the part shown above.
They are not oil wrenches as was once suggested, as they are not thick enough and too large in diameter - even the old ones I've managed to find are at least 3" in diameter (the sizes needed for the ESB blaster are 1.5" and around 1.87" in diameters).
I am going to re-examine all of my old research and see if I can see any extra details that might suggest another part, but until then, they appear to be self-tightening hose clamps.
[MOLEX CONNECTORS]
The connectors (identified by TrooperExpert of the RPF) that Molex currently make are not identical to the ones used on Boba Fett's ESB Blastech EE-3, as they have since changed the design of their connectors. The new/current design is keyed - that is, it has two notches on one side of the female connector and two ridges on one side of the male connector - this prevents them from being inserted the wrong way around. (See the diagram below):
http://steveday.org/BBimages/Molex_-...0-84-2060).gif
Diagram, Top to Bottom: Female Connector (Perspective view); Female Connector (Side view); Male Connector (Front view)
The type we need is the female connector (1st and 2nd on diagram) - so the notches will have to be filled with Bondo (car body filler).
The other change to the connectors is the type of latching mechanism used. This is a completely different design and requires quite a bit of cutting and filing to remove the current parts (see photo) and put on a scratch built piece that looks like the original prop.
The current Molex connectors (42022 series) of this type only come in White/Natural, Brick Red and White, so the whole thing will have to be sprayed black anyway - which will help to hide the modifications needed.
[RIFLE SCOPE & RINGS]
Now, onto the scope - I've been scouring eBay for the past month or so and have only seen a couple of alternatives with the correct scope rings. The last one was a "Marlin Micro-Vue 4x" (4x20 I believe) and you can see this item still listed on ebay (click here to see it).
As Fettcicle said in a few messages back, there is another good match available, though it doesn't have the correct rings. That scope is a Simmons 4x20. The raised area where the adjustment knobs are fitted is slightly larger than the original ASI 4x20, but it does have the correct 3/4" diameter scope body. The best news is that they're cheap ($10 or less on eBay).
The scope rings could easily be made with sheet metal (Aluminum is easier to work with) and a few Socket head cap screws. When I get around to building mine (not for at least 3 months as I'm working on a few projects at the moment), I'll make a template and upload it.
[STOCK "PLUGS"]
Oh - the stock plate "split plugs" - they're not UK electrical plugs, as I used to live in the UK and was an electrician for quite a few years.
UK electrical plugs are large and bulky, with three long rectangular pegs sticking out the back. The photos shown look more like a kind of 2-pin European electrical plug - or possibly, as has been suggested before, an AM aerial plug.
...
I'm glad other people are looking at these details now, as it's tough working alone. ;)

ESB Blaster blocks... NOT A MOLEX 42022-6.

It's an AMP .200" Commercial MATE-N-LOK 6 way pin-housing with a latch locking mechanism. AMP part# 1-163035-0.
The measurements are within 0.045" on the length. The other dimensions are within 0.02" at the most.
The only difference I can see is that pins 1-3 are in the opposite order, while pins 4-6 are the same.
Sadly, it's only available in the "natural" (whiteish) color, but the original part was probably black.

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
DL44 Blaster...Steve,
Hows it going? Glad to see the interest is up on the ESB Fett Blaster!
You are right about the scope......
There is zero doubt that the ASI scope I have is a 100% match to the ROTJ scope.
I believe the ESB scope is also an ASI but we just dont have the pics available for comparison as we do on the ROTJ.
As far as I can see they are the same and that makes sense to me...:)
I have located two of these scopes.....so they are out there.
Atleast you know what to look for......;)
Good luck,
Jim S.

Has anyone noticed or come to the conclusion that the MPP barrel is filled with what might be a bondo to fill in the holes? From the reference shots looking in the barrel, you see a white build up. I am thinking that the holes were plugged as too not show through, but obviously not covered up. Anyone else agree? Or is this old news?

I see what you mean about the image on the left, but the one on the right appears to just be the internal reflections of light entering the tube through the small holes (like a diffused pinhole camera effect).
I used to do a lot of 3D modelling/rendering, which has helped me understand how light behaves and interacts with other surfaces.

along these lines - isn't the picture on the left possibly the same interaction with the orange light entering the tube? It might actually be possible that the tube was at that point perfectly lined up with the holes on the other side of the tube.

Re: ESB Blaster - Post Pics and Info Here!
I don't see it on any of the other reference photos, so it's quite possibly just an illusion.

Merged: A washer under the ESB push rod??
I was just looking at some pics from other threads, and was wondering..is there a round "washer" type piece under the biggest part of the Push Rod?? In some pics I think there is, and in others I cant tell...if there is, it would make the rod sit more "flush"(for lack of a better word) against the gun..which makes it look better;)
Any thoughts?

Re: Official ESB Boba Fett Blaster Thread
We all want to know what that part is, along with the exact model of barrel rings:lol To date the only thing on the scope mount setup that has been positively identified is the set of Molex connectors...two up front, two in back on either side of the scope mount parts that you're asking about. Re: Official ESB Boba Fett Blaster Thread
Best bet so far is that it's a pipe hanger of some kind - it resembles the ones currently used to hang medium diameter pipes from ceiling or on a wall (leaving a gap behind, to prevent a hot/cold pipe from touching the wall/ceiling surface).

Re: Official ESB Boba Fett Blaster Thread
Hey all,
I have a question. I have been searching these boards and it seems that on the ESB stock there are two split plugs on one side and one on the other side, both have the circuit board. Now the question, are the greeblies black? I read one post that part of them are orange? Is this true? If so, which orange? Floquil?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, because this is driving me nuts.
Thanks,

Re: Official ESB Boba Fett Blaster Thread
Here is my stab at a scratch built EE-3 ESB-styled blaster...
So, I started with a $7.99 cap gun, some 1.5" PVC, a $6.99 Daisy 4X scope, a $5.00 drain pipe, and I ordered a $25.00 (plus $10.00 for shipping) resin Webley buttstock off ebay (and I should have by next week)...

I just need some larger (and more accurate) scope mounting braces, the Molex boxes (I have a schematic for those), the "D" brace, some greebs... and I will have a good looking EE-3 for around $65 once done.
Greeblies (I have a friend with a laser cutter who "should" hopefully generate these for me)...

Only things missing are the "D" brace draw-up, the square plate between the butt stock greeblies, and the piston details above the trigger. Anything I miss after that... well, I will cut my losses and have a pretty cool gun for about $65.
I hope to complete by mid-February. If anybody wants some scope mounts, I can ask my friend to cut some more. I just need the diameter for if you are using a Webley kit, or using 1.5" PVC.
Stay Tuned!
Later,
John

Re: Official ESB Boba Fett Blaster Thread
Thanks a lot! It has been a fun little project. Over the years, I have met a lot of neat people that can make parts easily (and precisely), which I could make, but they would probably look crummy.
Those greeblie, "molex" pieces, and scope mount pieces will be made of laser cut acrylic. I just have to get the butt-stock to measure the slot, then I will remove the pistol grip side piece, trace it onto paper, scan it, then draw the in-between "D" shape and mounting bar.
The cool thing is the acrylic Butt stock brace will be a bit more stable than a resin one.
Lastly, it will be a very close rendition, for a relatively low cost, and I won't be emberrassed by it... if I ever get a Fett suit going again. I have a helmet, I just need the other 100 things to make the whole suit! HAHAHA!!!!
Thanks for the compliments!
John

Re: Official ESB Boba Fett Blaster Thread
OH! Lastly, if I decided to make a batch of say 5-10 of these, would people be interested? It is the greeblies, and getting the scope set-up looking right, that make this gun a bit of a challenge.

Re: Official ESB Boba Fett Blaster Thread
I have a friend who has expressed interest in replication. This is a rough idea of what it will look like...
