Aug 16, 2016, 8:52 PM - New way to Dye Girth belts! (Yeah, Main jacked it up) #1

    Hey guys,
I bought me a girth, perfect size, just right for dying. I went to my local home improvement store, picked out the perfect shade of reddish brown and proceeded to follow the instructions for dying the girth belt. HOWEVER, it looks like I just dropped it in the paint and let it sit. Which is pretty much what I did, I think I got distracted by dad duties or something. So, I can get the thick layer of latex off the buckles with a knife and other tools, but is the mohair itself just jacked up and ruined or is there a way (with mineral spirits, paint thinner) to break that crap down and get it to feel more rope like again?

    Thanks,
    Main

Not that I know for sure, but you could try a paint stripper. At my OSH they have both liquid and spray-on, and I've used the Klean-Strip brand to good effect. That and some brushing should loosen up the latex, then you may be able to flush it out of the weave with some more stripper spray. You will probably have to re-dye/paint afterwards though. Good luck!
