New Scratch ESB Mounts

Well since the blaster ive been working on for the last few months didnt sell on ebay it has given me more time to work on it. first up on the plate is to try to replicate the mounts to the screen used gun even further. sadly theres only so much i can do to mod the Sidewinder mounts i had. they looked great but the goal this round requires me to scratch build a new set.
been working on this for the last few hours & im going to stop for tonight. this is just the front scope mount. the main frame is laid out & i start work on the backing & maybe a little detailing tomorrow. if these turn out the way i want them ill think about casting them up & making some available

ok day 2's work is done. trimmed some off the right side to make the top even. re-did the top mounting block as the one from last night was too small. added a extra section of ring in the center, added some filler putty and did most of the back center detail work. the front center detail work should be started tomorrow, thats going to be the tricky part. threw on some molex connectors to give a general scale.

nice work...so will the little "prongs" on the bottom be part of the mold that you do to produce these? or will they be something each individual adds on...?? great job brother...

i plan to have them molded in so they & the main body of the mount are one piece. the problem with gluing these **** things on its they are fairly easy to break off as they are never truely part of the main ring. i cant tell ya how many of these things i lost in the initial build. it took alot of CA glue to keep them fairly secure on the rings i originally modified . so im hoping if they are molded as part of it then they wont be as easy to break off. the top mounting bar (not made yet), will unfortunately have to be a separate mold..
Im very happy with how these are coming out so far but with the chance of these being molded up for production, i would like comments on any changes that you guys might like done

cool...how about some screws to go in place of those prongs on the bottom of the mount...i have seen some pics where it looks like there are some kind of screws there...i guess that would be difficult if the front mount is placed in front of the barrel., and not actually on the barrell...so the screw would have to go into the MPP or heiland flash tube....just a thought...

More progress. the front clamp is now almost done. just minor filling remaining. i need to replace the wood blocks in the center corners with plastic ones, but other than that this clamp is mostly done.
Hey FettDad can you post some of those pics where you might be seeing screws, every reference i have they look like tabs and i want to cover all grounds before molding.

this one looks like it to me...it doesnt seem like a rectangular tab, but more of some kind of rounded top on a screw...

here's the one from the wiki, and i would assume it is an acutal pic from the movie, and here you can really see that those prongs look rounded...especailly the one in the back...:) looks like it has a metal base on it, and a round screw head, or nob...could it be one of those plastic covers used on screws or bolt heads...??

based on the 2nd ring im still siding that they are tabs & not screws. the back ring is stretched wider & the pegs/tabs/whatever the hell, they are are pulled together so the possibility that they are screws is unlikely in my mind.
hey FD im sendin ya a pm :)

front mount is almost done and ready to mold all that remains is the mounting bar on top plus minor filling and i might redo the pegs. then its on to the back ring

ok well i have to redo the pegs & somehow get them to look like theres plastic/rubber covers on them. also going to do the rest of the updates to the blaster in here. this is the new piece for under the connecting rod. im finnishing the front mount tommorow & starting on the back.

been sick the last couple days & it threw everything off the tracks. now that im feeling better I got started on the back ring this morning.... but ive run into a snag...:facepalm I was under the impression that Resin slightly shrinks when its curing, however minute it may be ive still heard there's shrinkage. ive been making these rings on my real Webley and out of curiosity i tried the back ring on my Sidewinder barrel & its too small. am i wrong & resin actually expands when curing? any ideas cause most people have resin Webleys & i want to make sure they fit peoples guns when i makem. Here's some pics for reference...

so anyone know anything about the shrinkage or even possible expansion of resin when it cures? i need to know if i need to make the back ring bigger or leave it as is

The back ring, is actually a split clamp, so theoretically, its going to be split at the bottom anyway, with two pegs (similar to the front) that a bold would go through to keep it shut.

So in theory, you wont have to worry about that much.

The other thing is, how high up on the barrell they slide it.

Believe it or not, a thin coat of paint, will stop it from sliding up to a half inch.

I noticed one of my test mounts I made, I paitned it, and it wouldnt slide to where it had gone before.
