Hey yall
This is my first thread to start on the discussion board so cut me a little slack if it isn't perfect. I hope I'm putting this on the right discussion board as well...I'm having a little dilemma and I'm hoping to get some clarity and support from experienced armor makers and anyone who enjoys dressing up in costumes to geek out at conventions in general! To tell you a little about myself I am a female who has been in love with star wars for as long as I can remember and most things geek/video games/anime/etc. It wasn't until recently that I was introduced into the wonderful world of conventions! (I am surrounded by non cool people in MS) I have dressed up a couple of times and even recently sewed my own costume (exciting!). When I discovered the star wars convention coming up in august I knew two things for sure 1. I was going and 2. I had to go as a female version of boba fett. I know most girls go directly for the princess leia slave outfit (which one of my good friends will be going as) but my dreams lie more with the bounty hunter. So now we reach my dilemma and why I started writing this post to begin with. (Sorry I'm a fairly wordy person, thus is the nature of females I suppose lol) I joined the dented helmet with the intention of using it as a resource for obtaining this costume and it has proved to be extremely helpful. I have learned that this costume is one of the hardest to make and not only does it take lots of time, failed attempts and resources, it also takes skills. Taking into consideration that I come to this with NO previously tried and true armor making skills, except fair sewing, and want this armor in a certain time frame (August 2012). Top this off with the fact I'm a nurse who works 12 hour shifts and am in the process of selling my house and moving tentatively by May, I don't see it being very realistic that I could actually make this costume myself. So I have consulted with Bobamaker who is willing to make a costume to my specific needs, and his armor really looks legit. However, all my friends (mainly the non geek ones) think I'm crazy for investing what could be a down payment on a car into a single costume. So now I'm torn between wanting to have this amazing costume and the guilt that is starting to slowly take over my desire. As far as money goes, I can handle the price tag with some budgeting. I would just appreciate a little support from some friends in the boba fett costuming world. Am I crazy for wanting to spend the money on the costume? Would I be better off to try and make a shabby version for this August, which I'm afraid with time constraints is all I could realistically manage. Or should I just go with my first instinct and spend the money on something fabulous and memorable. I'm completely serious when I say I want honest answers. (feel free to be brutal as long as constructive) I value the opinions of people in this forum because I know most people who are using this forum really are true fans and understand my desire to want to bring this amazing costume to life. Also any other ideas on how to obtain the armor, armor makers, etc or just thoughts in general, I'd love to hear them. I'm enclosing a picture (hopefully) of a costume that I saw a girl do that really inspired me to want to make a female modified version of boba fett. To those people who are purists and dont like modified versions I completely understand wanting to maintain the integrity of a costume, which I hope to do in mine. Although you will have to excuse me for being a female who enjoys looking like one and want to flaunt it while I got it. Hey, I'm not gonna be 26 forever Thanks guys. I look forward to hearing from everyone!
