need help weathering decals for chest/shoulder

What has worked for you guys? What hasn't? Thanks!

you could talk to Slave1pilot, wickedbeard or maybe SUPERJEDI. These guys are pros's, and could give you the best advice.

Do you have Printed Stickers or actual vinyl decals?? That will make a difference on how you weather it.

hey man, what i do is spray the color of paint you want, usually black, or a rusty color, or both, onto the corner of a cloth rag, and then lightly tap of the excess onto another rag so you dont have too much paint, and then lightly rub the remaining amount onto the sticker or decal...make sure you dont have too much on the rag before you apply it...that is the trick...practice on some other decal to get the amount you want...i think it is called "dry brushing" or something...you could even use a brush, dip it into the paint, then take a towel, or rag, and get rid of the excess, then lightly apply what is left in the brush...get into the corners of the skull, or patch, and on the edges, also along the actual edges of the decal, where it meets the armor...basically where grime would accumulate in normal wear circumstances...

I have the vinyl decals and what I did worked very well though it was a complete mistake. I tried to dust it with my airbrush and right at the wrong time accidentally pulled the trigger all the way back and completely covered the skull with black. I quickly grabbed a wet rag to wipe it off while it was still wet and it kind of got this great smeared look to it and came out perfect. I'll edit this post when I get home with a picture when I get home from work.

I use watered down black and brown acrylics.lightly dab it all over the decal(heavier around the edges), and use a dry Paper towel and very lightly dab that.Alternate the brown and black, but do it sparingly.you just want the decal to look old, and weathered, not painted.
After I apply them to the armor, I spray some flat clearcoat and it takes all the shine off the decal.
