My 1st Boba Fett Uniform * T-Visor Lense Question

I have constructed some peices to my Fett suit but its not to the 501st quality. I need some help here. This site rocks by the way! Here is what I have done so far.

Made from diagrams I found on the net.
    http://raptorarts.com/CreatureFX/FettCape.jpg

    Papermache Jet Pack.
    http://raptorarts.com/CreatureFX/Fet...ckPainting.jpg

Cardboard Templates for the actual armour.
    http://raptorarts.com/CreatureFX/FettArmour1.jpg

I am basically broke right now so Any help whatever it may be would be greatly apreciated. I just moved to Oregon and my savings went from 3k to $78. because of moving costs. Man movers cost a lot!

If you wanted to send me something to get me started I will take care of shiping and handling. Thanks everybody!

Looks preety darn good actualy for a begginer, like I am, its very hard to afford all the stuff an get ready. If you dont need an actual flightsuit JCPennys.com has some work suits that work realy good for $30 or so + shipping. and for a over shirt my Local Wal-Mart had a dress shirt that worked awsome, as you can cut it off at the bottum to make it look like a croped off shirt and use what you cut off as a EXTREMLY confy neckseal. And if you need a cheap weapon Id get a Nintendo Zapper for a side arm.

That JP looks really good!!!! Not bad work at all.

Now that cape, needs to be cut up a little and tossed in the washer a few times. That will dull the color out and give it the beat up look. But make sure you add the holes and stuff like that before you wash it. Might take you 10 times to get it where you like it. Looks great so far, keep up the good work.

Are those the armor peices you plan to wear or are they the templates? No offence but if those are the peices you are wearing then you need to replace them if you really want to join the 501st.. they look.. well.. in lack of a better word, ******. I'd use those for templates and make new ones out of Sintra, metal or fibreglass.

But this is just my opinion, the rest of the stuff looks great. I love the JetPack. But as long as you are happy with what you've got then that is what counts..

I updated the details of the linked pictures above. The armour is only a template. I have no idea if they are to scale I just took the pattern off some pictures I eyeballed off my Behind the Scenes book on Star Wars.

Re: Need Help with my 1st Boba Fett Uniform

I am having a hell of a time finding the jumpsuit for Boba Fett. I looked in the JC Penny catalog and they are all dark colors except for the white one. I have a pair that are navy blue with paint on them that I use for working on messy projects. The material cant be dyed or lightly bleached as far as I can tell... Any ideas? I want the desert tan color. ROTJ edition

My web site page containing the making of the suit so far.
    http://raptorarts.com/CostumeStarWars.html

Check out my web site if you want to trade Mandalorian stuff for what I got on my sales page. I cant afford to buy everything. Im really going to have to make the dollar stretch from one galaxy to the next.
    http://www.raptorarts.com

I currently have a 1995 Boba Fett Helmet, Jet Pack, Armour templates but they may be inacurate on size, and thats all...

It's simply stunning how that cardboard/papermache jet pack turned out!

I'm really thinking of doing it too before EIII to complete my Jango.

For the suit: I would take the white one. There should be no problem with that dyeing it the color you want.

Re: Need Help with my 1st Boba Fett Uniform

I am going to get some thick off white canvas/nylon material to make the vest. I will have to get that cheerleader pattern and make it (boy that sounds wierd...) I just ordered some JC Penny BIG MAC white Coveralls for the jumpsuit. It says white but looks more like its an off white.

Does anybody have a spare "T" Visor they are wiling to let go of?

    :jet pack

How am I going to form the armour on the back, groin and but properly. Those look tough!

Sheesh I fell like I am talking to myself here lately

Anyhow heres an update. I found the same exact girth belt that Boba Fett is wearing so I bought it. I would have rather had it pre-dyed but nobody has been paying attention to me lately.

Re: Need Help with my 1st Boba Fett Uniform

Sorry but i am stressing because the movie is coming out in 8 days. I am on the computer almost all the time doing research, reading forums and reading email. A good 6 hours a day but not all at once.

I want my suit to look like the ROTJ version. Grey/tan canvas color jumpsuit.

*On the good side When I finally received my 1995 BOBA FETT "Don Post" Helmet I was supprised to find that what I bought was actually better than what I thought. IT is made of the White plastic/Vinyl !!! Score!

    Boba on a budget

Mmmmk, I'm also poor. In fact, I really don't think you can get much more poor than a college student that's paying their way through. Here's some money tips. First off, go to the search tool and type in "Trash Can Armor." It'll cost you 20 bucks at wal-mart total, and it works great. Second, for the jump suit I used a dickies coverall from--you guessed it--Wal Mart--$30--pretty much ROTJ grey. Unfort. b/c I live in a big city, I had to order mine online b/c I guess ppl in cities don't need coveralls so my walmart didn't stock them? Third, you're going to need a bucket (helmet). Head to ebay and type in Don Post Boba Fett. You'll get a listing of a couple helms depending on the day. TRY to get a DP95 or 96--they're made of a better material than the later models. I was TOLD I was buying a 96', but it's stamped 1997 on the back ....I think it was an early 97 cause it wasn't square and holds it shape pretty well. Instead of getting hella pissed, which is what I almost did, I just reshaped it, gave it an awesome, unrushed paintjob--(a don post 97 can look twice as good as a "Movie Sized" helmet if it has a signif. better paint job) (Of course that's just my humble opinion) Let's see heeere, for a blaster. . . I spent 12 bucks making one. It's not BEAUTIFUL, but it made the people that were walking by when I was painting it give me that, "what are you doing with that deadly weapon?" look. I took the butt of an old pellet gun, a 6 dollar cap gun from wal-mart, a foot of 1 1/2" PVC, PVC cupling, a three foot "corner saver" (the plastic thing you put over corners on high traffic areas of your house to keep them from getting all dented up), the metal end of a busted light bulb, and a $7 scope from wal-mart. Here's a couple of pics so you know what everything looks like. Hope this helps. I know this forum has been a life saver for me. Some things you can't skimp out on, like the gauntlets, but I got mine from this forum for a steal. Check out the cargo hold too .

Re: My 1st Boba Fett Uniform

Thanks for the help on the blueprints for the armour. I have my Armour cut out and ready for the battle damage. Now what was the proper green color? I have Krilon "Italian Olive" green. I think a couple years ago I read that it may be Spruce Green but dont know for sure.

    Heres the Trash Can
    http://raptorarts.com/CreatureFX/FettTrashCan.jpg

    And heres the Armour

Heres a picture of my White Vinyl Helmet.

I am going to go down to the plastics shop and see if they have any scrap Smoke black plastic that I can see through. This is the lamest lense ive ever seen. Anybody have a T-Visor handy for cheap?

Re: Need Help with my 1st Boba Fett Uniform

I used Rustoleum's Spruce Green for my armor. If you need help with weathering and such, use the search tool at the top, you'll find tons of stuff. As for the helmet, you'll need to cut out the T shape that's painted black, so it looks like a complete visor and not just a little window, trust me, if you don't it's going to look cheapO'. Go to http://www.rjsafety.com/EH21.html and scroll down til you see HF4118-DRK - Dark Green Faceshield. That's about as cheap and easy to work with as you're going to get. --- meh, I'll just explain the weathering real quick. Go and buy Rustoleums Aluminum color. Give your armor a good few coats and let it dry really well, 24 hrs for each coat is what I did. Then--seeing as you're an artist, I don't see you having much problem with this--take some vasaline (cause it's cheap and works fine) and paint on the scratches that you want. Now paint the whole thing with a few coats of that spruce green. Let that sucker dry totally. Finally, go back and wipe off the vasaline to show the silver thru. It gives it a nice layered effect. I went back and took some yellow to outline the scratches and bring them out a bit more. Use reference photo's if you're trying to be screen accurate.

For the T-Visor - Do you have a McMaster-Carr or welding shop nearby? If so, get a shade 4 replacement welding visor and cut your T-visor out of it. They only run about $8.

I do not suggest anything darker. I tried a shade 5 once...way too dark to wear at night.

Re: Need Help with my 1st Boba Fett Uniform

That is cheap for a dark lense Miggs. Never knew they were that cheap. I wonder if they are the same as the lvl 4 welding mask that FT is talking about? In any case I am going into town to find that material and carefully cut it to fit into my mask.

As for the armour I have heated, burned, dremeled(sp?) and latexed the battle scars and have them pretty much dead on to what was in the movie. Every dent and scar on the armour. Talkin about a hell of a lot of research to find it too

I have already sprayed the armour with a "Sun Yellow" and will get a coppery/gold color to mist over the yellow and then I will paint the armour with the Spruce Green. I'll return the unused green paint I bought since you confirmed the right color. I remember now that "Spruce Green" was the color I used on my Jet Pack a few years ago.

What are all the correct colors on the mask? I am going to completely repaint it. The current manufactureres painted look is pathetic. I see some of the helmets have gold paint or desert tan on the earpeices and others have silver. I also hear theres 2 color greens on the helmet. Spruce and Charcoal green. Please straighten me out on this so I can get started on it.

As for my Overalls I realize that a size 36 is too small. My dark navy blue ones that are size 38 are more flexible at the arms. I will return the white ones tomorow and get a size 38 white. Unfortunately I wont get it before the movie starts My blue ones have white paint splotches on it so thats out of the question. Oh well beter be comfortable watching Star Wars EPIII a few days later, rather than going in and being crowded and not wearing a movie accurate suit. I will continue to update that picture of my armour up top so you know what Ive been doing lately

Re: Need Help with my 1st Boba Fett Uniform

I didn't have the time, money, or patients to learn how to use an airbrush, soooo, here's the off the shelf paint list that I used for my bucket. For the dome, I used Rustoleums Spruce Green (yes, I know ur not supposed to match with your armor, but I'm on a budget) For the mandibles, I used Krylon Farm and Implement (it's a dark red color). For the back I used Rustoleums Hunter Green. For the cheeks, I sprayed a flat black and misted Rustoleums Navy Blue on top of it, from certain angles it look black and from others you can see the navy. I left my ear pieces silver. Take your time on the bucket, it's what everyone is going to be looking at.

    Miggs

PS: I don't know exactly how dark the lenses are, I bought one, but I'm using a lvl 5 cause it's more of a black color. I'd guess either 3 or 4. I'm probably in trouble at night though.

So, what kind of paint are you all using? spray for basecoats? brushed? airbrushed? I've been doing basic sprays on my armor (its custom anyway, so i'll dmg it and stuff a little later). On the helm, I'm doing a base coat of paint, then brushing the other stuff on, like mandibles, cheeks, and eye rim.

Off the shelf spray paint with a lot of masking tape. Spray on, let dry totally, tape off another section, spray, let dry, tape off, spray, etc.

For your jumpsuit, you may want to calll a uniform shop (police uniforms, scrubs, etc). Thats where I ended up finding my jumpsuit.

Re: Need Help with my 1st Boba Fett Uniform

According to the "Build Your Own Boba Fett" site
    http://www.con-centric.com/fett/jumpsuit.htm
The JC Penies Jumpsuit seems to be as close as it gets. Ive returned and reordered the jumpsuit in a size 38 now and it should be in next week. I found an "Olive Green" and a "Light Blue" permenant dye for polyester cotton mix fabrics. Now luckily since I have to remove a couple pockets I can test the dyes before I totally submerge my suit into the 5 gallon bucket. Ill use hot water from the tap. It gets pretty hot. I bought some fabric for the extra pockets that is 65% cotton and 35% polyester which is the oposite of the jumpsuit so I hope it will dye similar to the suit.

Im also wondering what your opinions are on these boots? Are theygood enough to turn into a Boba Fett style boot or should I keep looking? If you have names of some good shoes that are better that I can look for lmk plz.

(shrugs) Those are fine as far as I'm concerned. It's just a matter of personal pref. I think. You can paint them to make em' look however you'd like. They do have the actual fett boots for sale, but those are 100 bucks, which is outrageous. I'd say go for those.

ok now im being told that a lvl 4 welding sheild is what I should get to cut the "T" visor from. Yet when I go into the local welding shop the Level 4 sheild is lime green and easy to see into. I took a look at the Level 5 and it seems to be a lot beter because its deep olive green and still easy to see out of. Also I notice that they range from around $12 to $16 each sheild. yet I see fully cut out ones for less but shiping gets ya there. Whats your opinions?
