Hey Guys

Were do you buy the long, thin hinges for gauntlet(s). Does anybody have any advise on the best way to install them.

Rich

You could probably pick them up at any hardware store like Lowes, or Home Depot. Drill small holes in the plate for the adhesive to come up through and use either 2 part epoxy or CA glue. (Holes are circled in red)

I attached my hinges on the inside of mine and just used a piece of a metal coat hanger with a hooked end as a pin to hold them together. (pin not shown)

Those hinges are called 'Piano hinges' for they are used on piano keyboard covers. They are available in brass nearly everywhere, and can be glued with strong epoxies. Just be carefull not to glue the hinge shut...

chibi fett,

Thank you, I just called a Piano store and they have them. Not to expensive either. I will post when I get them put together and painted.

S1P is correct... no hinges on Boba. I believe the ESB guantlets were closed on one side and used velcro on the inside.

Some put hinges on for ease of getting in and out of them when trooping.

You may or may not want to put them in depending on how accurate you want them to be and what your needs are.

S1P, clonecollector,

I used velcro on my first set of gauntlets. I want the ease of getting them off and on during trooping.

I had velcro on my old bradleyfett guants way, way back... the hinges are a minor detail that is overlooked and if you troop alot it will make it easier to put them on and off... it will save you from an extra repaint too!

You'll still get 501st approved with hinges though, so don't sweat it. ;) Personally I'm not a big fan of velcro as it has a tendency to easily pull apart with movement. I used magnets on mine and it gives the same result in looks as velcro, only stronger...just because what's accurate doesn't mean it's the most practical
