Mythos: 3D Modelling

I am in need of further guidance from the community regarding my Mythos build.

Delta13Mike has completely outdone himself and has produced this absolute piece of art. Once I get the belt in hand I will be able to attest to the build quality but I am 100% sure that his craftsmanship will far exceed my expectations. Take a look for yourselves...

(Sorry for the side pictures but I couldn't figure out how to fix it.)

As some of you would know the Mythos has three lightsabers that hang off the belt in the spaces shown in the photos above. Because I do not have any experience with prop building, I do not believe that I would be able to build accurate lightsaber hilts for this build. So, I did some investigation and I have arrived at the conclusion that 3D printing probably be the best method for getting screen accurate sabers. The problem now is that I need someone to model and print these sabers for me. I touched based with someone from the RPF to do the modelling and printing for me, but his prices were way to high for me right now and for all three sabers he wanted over $900 USD.

Is there anyone here in the community/know someone that would be willing to model/print these lightsaber hilts?

Any help is appreciated.

Belt looks really good! Stinks they wanted $900 to do the sabers...lot of PVC and wood. If I were back home I'd build a set for you to hang for SOOOO much cheaper...if you wanna wait about 7 month I could do a commission ;) Good luck if you cant wait...

Yeah the belt looks great - it took a while to find all the necessary reference photos to get the belt down pat.

I remember seeing your sabers that you made for your build. They came up great! I think the photos in thread are dead now though, because I can't seem to find them on your build thread. I'll keep trying to find someone to model/print these but if I can't (more than likely) it would be a pleasure to have you build the sabers to hang. I'm not in a rush, plus i have a scrillion different things to do, so waiting 7 months isn't all that bad.

I might do the lightsabers for you, but I'll need more hi-rez images to see all the available details. I don't have a 3D printer, but I post all my models on Shapeways where you can download it for free or use their 3D printing and shipping services for a price.

To be honest these Mythos sabres look like quite generic .. you may be better off buying some old Ep 1 2 and 3 Toy sabres off Ebay .. cutting them together if need be and then fill them full of resin to add weight and then heavily weather with paint.

I have a good 3D high end printer and i've printed a sabre ..... it uses a LOT of material and support ... but to be honest given the actual amount of material you'd be using plus the amount of clean up , prep and paint .. 900 is a pretty cheap ..assuming its a high end print and not a ropey set of bot prints ... . also .. if you drop them they will disintegrate unless printed in even more expensive materials which come with their own set of issues ...

Using the toys cut and shut together then repainted and weathered will i think get you a better end result in the long term ...

Thanks for the response Arch.

I don't have a full appreciation of what it take to 3D print something nor do I fully understand how robust printed products can be. Thanks for posting this info and educating me [emoji4]

I just jumped on eBay and had a quick look and you couldn't be more right. I could easily cut and place all the components of the EP 1 & 2 sabers and get the exact look of sabers on the Mythos. This way it will not only save me money but it will also give me some thing to do! Thanks for the input.

Sorry to butt in here, but I personally have a 3D printer (it was under $400), and although it has a pretty small bed (4"x4") it can produce prints in pretty good definition for real cheap. One spool of filament could print two sabers for sure, and one spool can cost only $20, so I'm not sure exactly what Archangel67 is talking about...unless we're discussing the super expensive and amazing printers here. If you have average printer you will still need to clean up and finish the print which can be trouble, but if you use some XTC-3D from Smooth-On it should turn out pretty swell. I think that a 3D printed lightsaber should also be durable if you print it solidly (100% infill) versus the hex-pattern for infill which is less durable but more economical. However just getting some hasbro lightsabers and cutting them up should work well and is perhaps the better option if you don't have a printer. Anyway, only trying to contribute here...
