Nov 6, 2010, 11:31 AM - My Suit, How I got it to this point. ( a help thread) #1

    Hi guys,
I thought I finished my Fett but as we know new discoveries are found and parts are improved on.

The reason for this thread is due to me posting a pic of my costume and getting a positive reaction.

So I thought maybe I can help, by showing details of my suit that may help other members get the best experience in building their suit. The Boba Fett suits are a daunting task.

And also OTHER members can share their suit details and ways they tackled armor attaching, helmet padding... etc. This is my 3rd year since the "completion" of my suit BUT I still find my self fixing things of adding bolts, clips and such.. cause the more you wear your suit the more you know what needs improving.

I hope this thread helps, in that members don't have to go thru what many "finished suit" members like myself had to experience. With a suit malfunction...

I'll start off with my most current pic. and after I will add pics of individual parts of my suit.
and discuss what I did to it.

This WON"T be a... paint, weathering tutorial.

Here is the how i attached the shoulder armor to the vest.
this pick was taken last year, and was quickly sewn together, just a few hours prior to my 1st Con.
I have since re-sewn the loop section of the velcro, to be more secure.

I glued the snaps and velcro to the armor, waited for it to set, then using a graphite pencil I rubbed it on the edge of snap, using it to leave a mark on the tackle twill.
Now I don't have to guess where to make a hole for the female part of the snap.
For the loop (velcro) you just measure location to mirror the hook (velcro) and sew on.

The black blobs you see are GOOP adhesive.

    Adding more pics this week.

I love the idea behind this thread, sixxgunn - there are a ton of tutorials on how to complete different parts of the suit, but I think these finer points that you only figure out after trooping and losing/damaging parts - like adding snaps to the shoulders - are overlooked. Keep it up - as a guy who is constantly making changes to his own costumes, I for one would like to see more of these little personal innovations that make for a more comfortable trooping experience.

Using both velcro and snaps is a great idea, thanks for sharing.
