My ROTJ journal

Here is my method for making toe spikes, very simple.

you need a length of bar to bend round the front of the boot, all I did was draw riound the front of the boot on some card to make a template that fits my set of shoes, everyone's will be slightly different.

A carpenters pencil sharpener

take the outer guide out

glue a new guide in 12 MM wide

use some 12mm hardwood dowel and sharpen like a pencil.

cut it off and there you got a set of four toe spike in less than 5 min's

Just need to drill and counter sink your holes for the mounting points on the boot,

Drill the holes in the bar to screw the spike in place with, I used a resin on the thread of the screws when I fixed them in place so they wont come off...don't forget to counter sink some hols in the boots to recess the screws sticking out the back of the toe spikes,

PS it broke my heart to drill into these boots....meh...

It was dead easy made them both in an hour...after the resin set they were solid, I found when I mounted them I had to point the whole assembly upward a bit, as the spikes would make contact with the ground a little when walking, I did however make a couple of spare spikes just in case I ping one off that I can superglue on in case of an emergency. (sort of temporary quick fix)...you never know!

Looks great! I'm simultaneously jealous of your build and inspired by it! Keep 'em coming

Never inspired anyone before thank you (y)

Well folks I have nothing more to make! its over. the rest of the outfit will be from Boba Maker and that will be all the soft parts and a bit of armor, I have a lot of weathering to do but was gong to try do it all in one hit over a few days once the whole outfit is here.

I do have a second helmet on the way (trooping) hopefully this side of Christmas and a lot of fine tuning on the whole thing to make it all fit together, thing like straps, snaps, clips etc. so there wont be any more build pics of anything just small updates on detailing.

I will say a thank you at this point to all the folks who helped me get this far with all the information made freely available here, its not over yet more questions to follow and more build progress most likely after Christmas now..

To Be Continued.......

So I am still waiting for the rest of this outfit to arrive, I am gathering parts, paints, stencils, this that and the other ready for the next and final part of the build....so what do you do with a couple of months to fill the gap :behave

You make another helmet, :D

just something to do well I am waiting I guess, may spray it ESB, may make it one off Mando not sure yet, I do know I got some monster updating on the build to do when it all arrives.

Still here, still learning (y)

Thank you guys really decent of you to say, I am making this second helmet purely because I am bored and I can go at any old pace with it and I am also having a brake from the main build...that and I am awaiting parts that wont be here until late January ( I hope) then I will be back to it, I am gathering all sorts of things I need for the final leg of this race so I am ready for January....

I went to a local hobby store and they sold scaled down versions of an RSJ

the get used on model rail ways etc.... I simply cut one of the edges off going from the '' H '' shape to a '' T '' shape and there you have your fins, the ones I got were a little narrow, I think the EE3 Carbine has 12 fins in total going round the out side of the barrel, mine has a couple more, no big problem for me anyway...

If you are in the UK I have seen these plastic '' H '' shape things at B&Q also.

If you look at page one of this thread it shows the blaster build part (y)

Thanks man! Not in the UK, but at least I know what there original use is now;) My dad's a big model train guy, so I'll have to check out some of his catalogs. Yeah, I was checking out your build and scored myself a decent looking toy gun at Dollar General for $1.25:D That was a great idea! Thanks again man!

No problem I would say is to put some weights in the handle and glue it in, it counter balances the whole gun so its not so front heavy and it will sit in your hand nicer to...some lead fishing weights or something like that..

So still waiting for parts to arrive, January seems like a life time away at the moment, I am continuing with this second helmet to pass the time and on this one I will have the range finder lights working :D
I will leave room for a servo to be added later but for now the lights will do,

Its hard to find two LED lights that blink one at a time, then I got thinking what about a digital metronome?? so I knocked this little beauty together

its almost done and so far all seems to work great I need to tweak it a little bit but I think I have cracked it (y)

also made the clear block section on this range finder out of some opaque plastic, all I need do is wet buff the edges off and it should look the part.
