My ROTJ Build Thread

Looking great! Are those two magnets at the end of the gauntlet enough to keep the whole thing closed?

There are gonna be two sets top and bottom and they hold like a tank. I can swing my arms all over the place and no movement whatsoever. I used the same magnets on my Disney trip but the problem was the actual magnet coming loose from the gauntlet. That is now a problem of the past and it looks clean and professional. Once they are done I plan on airbrushing them black so all the interior is black.

I take it they are rare earth magnets?

I like your armor mounting method. I'm trying one similar but I'm using Chicago screws to do it instead of snaps.
I just got the shoulders mounted this way and they came out really good.
It is nerve racking to say the least trying to get things properly oriented.

I considered Chicago screws but the advantage of snaps is how fast you can remove and put them back.

Lining up wasn't too difficult if you install with magnets first then add the Chicago screws. It will stay in the same place as you keep going back to see if your placing was correct.

Good luck

So got around to working on how I'm going to add my hoses. I had them dirtied up then decided this as my attachment method. The elastic will just be sewn to the flightsuit

Ok , so the TFA build I had to get done that was stressing me out is over. Now I can get back to my Boba build. Just need to finish Jetpack.

I did have an amazing weekend with the TFA though. Spent the day at the White House then the evening at a private screening for Disney.

Unreal photos. Wow. Congrats!

A lot of people don't understand costuming and the 501st etc. What the costumes do is give you very unique opportunities time and time again.

How else are you ever getting that close to the president? Amazing.

Great work. For the magnets in the gaunts, is the bottom of the Chicago screw drilled through some ABS, then that is plastic welded to the inside, then a drill through the magnet, and Chicago screw through that? I think I have it.

Lastly, what magnets are you using?

Thanks!

You got it, I just made square abs pieces that are the same size as the magnet then welded it in place. Then I welded it into the gauntlet.

The problem I learned is no matter what I used and how strong it felt nothing was a permanent hold for the magnet, all glues from CA, Plastiweld, Zap A Gap, etc failed eventually and the magnet came off. With the Chicago screws it's permanent until I choose to unscrew and remove.

Awesome.

What magnets did you use? I'd be afraid they'd shatter while being drilled. Also, what size Chicago screws? I assume they'd be available at Tandy? Or somewhere else?

thanks!

1x1x3/16 with a countersunk hole. You can buy them with the hole already in there and if you need to make the hole a little bigger it's easier.

First off everything looks great and congrats on the White House visit!!

In your gauntlet pics the one side is cut off - do you use magnets soley to keep them closed or is the other side hinged?
