LisaFett--You should see my Jet Pack drawings on graph paper. It's kind of weird because with the pouch patterns, they were flat. The jet pack has all those angles and stuff so getting all six sides of the model to line up has been a real pip. I had to go back and erase the entire right side diagram because I needed to figure out what the vacuformed piece was going to look like and not the finished product.

PF: what leather dye did you use and how is it holding up on the vinyl? Did you put the stitching on before or after the dye?

The leather dye I used is Tandy's Pro Dye 2055 Choc and it came in a 4 oz. bottle. After four years, it has held up very well to handling. I put the dye on before I stitched it, otherwise I would've run the risk of accidentally coloring the stitching dark brown. The dye was $2.99 for one bottle. I dyed my belt and all 8 of my pouches and still have some of the bottle left.

In case there's not a Hobby Lobby for leather scraps near you, (like out here...) another source for leather is a Goodwill/ thrift shop.

It may take a few trips, but you can find leather pretty cheap in the form of a vest, purse, even tall ladies boots. Those are all pretty affordable. A vest will run you about $4-6 bucks.

Leather jackets on the other hand are not that ideal for this project. Cheapest I've found was $40-

    hope this helps!
