My less than 18 dollar ammo belt

TB: OK, give up the goods. How did you make those? I understand the sheet metal idea with it layed out. Fortunately I already own a pair of snips. How did you get the vinyl attached to your fabricated box? what where the demensions of your pattern? How did you go about doing the stitching? If you can diagram it Ill host your pics. Thats a really good idea for the pouches. Those are sweet.

PF's email reply:
Hi! Thanks for the interest in the pouches I made. The patterns are drawn 1"-1" scale. The graph paper squares are 1/4". For the metal pouch pattern, the blackened in area is the main box, and the white "hole" in the black part is the pattern for the clip. They are two separate pieces of metal; the clip is NOT cut out of the main piece. I'll post the rest of how I made them in the thread.

TB: Looking forward to your input. Between the two of us you could make a near screen accurate belt/pouch combo for ~30 bucks. Excellent! One more TIP from my end: Joann's carries a clear thick plastic graph sheet in the quilting section. If you have never seen it its worth its wait in gold b/c after you draw your design and cut it out it gives you a nice stencil (~$2.00). Damnit, now I have to go back later and try your pouches. Here are your diagrams:

tteF aboB--the patterns have been sent to your email account. Thanks for offering to host them. Some of the info you requested is in this thread now towards the top.

Spidey--thanks for the merge!

See two posts up for more info on my pouches and patterns.

tteF aboB! You just drew it on graph paper and scanned it in! Your a genius of simple answers! I've been thinking for ages about how to get my gauntlet patterns into some sort of adobe thing or something, and I couldn't get them in. I will just use your idea and draw them on graph paper, then people can know if they've got the right size or not.

BTW, nice belts, to all! They ALL look better than the one I made. I've just got to upgrade that thing. And they're cheap, too, my favorite way of doing things. :)

Wish I could take credit but the pictures are Phantomfett's I just hosted them so others could have his pattern if they wanted to go this route.

LisaFett--You should see my Jet Pack drawings on graph paper. It's kind of weird because with the pouch patterns, they were flat. The jet pack has all those angles and stuff so getting all six sides of the model to line up has been a real pip. I had to go back and erase the entire right side diagram because I needed to figure out what the vacuformed piece was going to look like and not the finished product. :facepalm

The leather dye I used is Tandy's Pro Dye 2055 Choc and it came in a 4 oz. bottle. After four years, it has held up very well to handling. I put the dye on before I stitched it, otherwise I would've run the risk of accidentally coloring the stitching dark brown. The dye was $2.99 for one bottle. I dyed my belt and all 8 of my pouches and still have some of the bottle left.

In case there's not a Hobby Lobby for leather scraps near you, (like out here...) another source for leather is a Goodwill/ thrift shop.

It may take a few trips, but you can find leather pretty cheap in the form of a vest, purse, even tall ladies boots. Those are all pretty affordable. A vest will run you about $4-6 bucks.

Leather jackets on the other hand are not that ideal for this project. Cheapest I've found was $40-

hope this helps!
