    Jan 28, 2011, 11:44 AM - MQ-1 circuit board removal #1

Does anyone know how to get the back piece off of the MQ-1? I took off the 2 screws from the sides, but the middle still seems to be attached with a tab, or another screw under the sticker or something. I don't know why, but even though I am taking it apart, I don't want to break any part I don't have to, (even if I won't be using it).

I am trying to get the circuit board out of it, but this back panel is being stubborn.

Anyone who has taken theirs apart have any thoughts? I appreciate it.

any thoughts? I thought this was a more common item that people have. I really do not want to break the back piece, but It will not come off.

    Anyone...anyone...Bueller...

Got any pics to give us a better idea of what it looks like? I'd like to see it and see if I can figure it out

    Here are a few pics:

The first pic is the back. I took the 2 screws off and the battery cover. the edges where the screws were will pry up a bit, but the center is attached somehow. I pulled, pushed, twisted, slid, and tried everything short of breaking it. I ended up damaging the side trying to pry it open, no big deal as i didn't damage any needed areas. I have not tried to look under the sticker for another screw, but it seems thin and smooth under it, so I doubt there is a screw there or I would feel it. I know this back part is not needed, so I "could" just break it off, but I would like to figure out how it is done without doing that. I don't see any tabs or slots. confusing and frustrating...

Hmmmm ...man I hate to say it but I'm stumped. The only thing I can think that's holding it together is an adhesive of some kind, or that it's sonic welded together or something weird like that. There could also be some plastic pegs and holes in there holding it together too.
The thing that concerns me about just breaking off the back panel is that you could possibly break off part of the circuit board with it. Without having ever seen one in person already taken apart, there's no way to know.

there's one tab in the middle on each side. so you have to pry a little from the battery side, put something thin and rigid (like guitar pick or ipod opening tool if you have one) and just slide it to the middle.
here's the pic of the tab:

and another one from the inside

    hope it'll help

Terrible Rid: Thank you, that's what I needed. I knew there was something to it...and once you told me, it popped off really easy. Thanks again.

Is there anything else that needs to be done to the circuit board? Like take off the battery connector plates?

Just read this thread from 2004 that I got a link to from the wiki:

Cool read. We can all thank Art again for the find.
