    MOW New ESB Gauntets Run

    Hey Guys,

    Here are 2 photos of the new ESB's recently pulled from the molds and feature vacuum formed bottom sections. I'm no longer using fiberglass as a medium so everything will be made from a fast curing urethane resin (Alumilite) which has excellent surface detailing and very good overall strength. I've created a arched rib-like design shown in the 2nd photo for the upper portions of the gauntlets to help prevent them from being compressed and/or crushed. With the top portions measuring about 3/16" thick made from this hard resin as well as the new arch design I'm confident that this will make for a very good overall prop.

    I've completely re-designed the flame unit detail and it's much larger than my previous versions. It's reinforced with 2 steel pins. I really like the overall look of it. Your all probably wondering why the 3 large holes in the flame units back section? Well, you'll have to wait for that one when I assemble and paint this set for photos sake. I've also removed the push button detail from the top of the right gauntlet and kept it smooth. I thought this would come in handy if any of you wanted to mount a functional push button or lever switch for an updated look. I'll provide the traditional movie accurate button as a separate detail, you can see it in the photo. I wont be including a rocket detail with this new set..There are too many beautiful metal versions around and most of you probably own one so I left that detail out. As for cost.....I'll have a better idea after assembly in a few days time. Keep you posted. Christian

    Those are looking good.

    That looks like polyurethane resin to me. I guess it is the color that is throwing me off.


    Because doesnt polyester resin crack easily if not used in congruence with fiberglass?

    Yes, your correct it's not polyester resin it's urethane resin. In fact it's Alumilite. I'll edit that in the original description, thanks.

    All the component parts are solid Alumilite..The upper portions are poured using a mold and plug system. Again I've incorporated these arched ribs in the design. These arches give them the added strength needed. Plus the castings have a good thickness made from this Alumilite. I've handled these quite a bit and I'm very satisfied with the quality. My only concerns are the bottom portions of the gauntlets which are vacuumed polystyrene..We're all familiar with the ups/downs of vacuumed formed parts..Many of you requested the more authentic vacuum formed bottoms sections on this run. I wont be held responsible for chipping and/or tearing of the vacuumed formed sections. Polystyrene is prone to damage as we all well know and you will be repairing them from normal wear and tear.

    I suppose thats to be expected, one person may use these for display and another for trooping, it would be simple enough for that person to re-enforce that section if they deem it necessary Looking great

    Assembly is going very well..I'll probably offer these in kit form.

    Sorry this thread is posted in the soft parts section..That was an error on my end..Sent a pm to the Heads about switching it to the proper armor section but guess they're pretty busy.

    How in the past did you do it to make the bottom shells stronger? Did you use ABS or Fiberglass? Haven't been around for your past runs.

    I'm putting together a set of gel-coated fiberglass upper sections at the moment..This way I can decide which one I like better for the final product, urethane or fiberglass?

    I think I'm leaning towards the gel-coated fiberglass...

    Gel Coated Fiberglass is stronger than just urethane resin by itself, but They are both strong enough to not break easily. After all we arent real bounty hunters. We just make costumes to wear and look nice. Its not like we are all going to have a fist fight with these gauntlets haha.

    Nice to meet you, my name is Leonardo Gazzia and I am from Argentina, I am new here, I liked many of productos(JANGO JETPACK, BOBA FETT JETPACK) that could see and mainly the gauntlets ESB, but I am very interested in buying the gauntlets (ROTJ version).
