MoW Jetpack mods - post your custom mods hints.

I've just got my hands in one of Man Of War's Boba Fett jetpack to paint in ROTJ version.

The thing is so beautiful and nicely detailed, but it comes with a whole collection of pieces, and I wonder... have someone who owns MoW packs, did something special other than gluing the pieces together? I am targeting for a removable rocket (in either possible way) and thruster nozzles.

For example:

- Separate rocket and way to hold in place?
- What pieces did you attach permanently and which you didn't?
- Back cover attachment methods?
- Top side caps attachment permanently?
- Thruster nozzles attached differently?
- What pieces did you attach permanently and which you didn't?

I will be adding/upgrading to metal collar, lighted beacon, stabilizer and possibly the side activation buttons. Please, post your mods and any ideas for easy building.

As far as the metal collar is concerned, I never did that with an ROTJ pack. Because it shows very clearly on an ESB pack, but on an ROTJ pack, it's completely covered in paint. Figured not worth the extra cost of having something in metal which ends up having zero "wow factor" to anyone looking at the pack, like they would with an ESB. lol

Thanks old buddy, my thoughts exactly. I've just recently signed for a "dark side" jetpack aluminum collar, but I don't see that beneficial, since it will be covered by the paint.

I have been recently working on my MOW jet pack, and have some mods for you to think over. This is very early work, so it does not look very good at this point.

First thing I discovered (too late) was the cut-out in back is not deep enough to accommodate the ITT Cannon XLR 5-pin assembly. Other than that I have been very pleased with the MOW jet pack and it's ability to withstand my modifications.

I've gone with the removable nozzles, and have found a small bunjee cord to hold them in. I drilled out a bit in the center of the nozzle mount, and added an eye-hook. I also added a bit of Sugru mouldable plastic around the nozzle to help hold the proper angle (but with more careful cutting on the jet pack body you may be able to avoid that).

I also drilled out a hole through to the center of the nozzle and threaded a small tube through, to allow for the "smoke effect" to be added later. I've pulled some wire and installed an extra momentary switch (from the left gauntlet) on the right-side nozzle to use for operating the "smoke effect".

I plan to hide the switch behind the "activation button" on that nozzle, that I have cut off and cored out.

I've decided to go with the removable rocket assembly as well, mounting a spare bolt into the base of the rocket and drilling the corresponding hole into the jet pack body, held in place by a wingnut and washer (plus more Sugru on the base of the rocket and inside where the washer sits). I secured the bolt in the rocket using expanding foam, but I think if I did this again I would use JB weld or something with more control (the foam kept expanding for days and was a general messy pain in the bottom).

Lastly I've mounted some rare earth magnets to the door and into the holes inset into the back opening to secure it.

Hope this helps!

The door on your MOW fit the opening? That's new...
Something I've realized as soon as I received it, is that the door is slightly bigger than the opening. Nothing like a good ol' trimming of the edges to fix that issue.

I was just thinking about the earth magnets for the door. Very good tips, dv8r.

First off, glad to see you around brother... it's being a long time.

Very nice progress topic, and I got a few tips from your built. Now I need to know about the greeblies. I've posted about it in your thread, and also check this thread I've created about it for more details.

Here is my build thread for my custom MOW pack.

It is a Jango Fett fuselage with classic parts on it along with Shapeways piano keys, light beacon, and stabilizer.
It is built with my Mandalorian Protector build in mind.

Thanks, it has been a long time hasn't it??? I sold my ROTJ Fett display back in '07 and I haven't been back since until Oct of '15.
I'm glad you could use some of my tips.
