MoW Jetpack assembly: PVC necessary?

Hi folks-

Im currently working on my MoW jetpack, and followed the assembly instructions so far (the included ones and the threads here on TDH). I've cut the PVC to the recommended lengths and started it putting together. However, assembling the PVC within the JP seems like more a struggle than it's worth? Has anyone simply glued the thrusters in place? Other than providing some support, I'm not sure what the PVC helps with.

i put an ABS "plate" on the inside with magnets to attach the thrusters on the MOW pack. One on each side..i just hot glue it in. you can see it in one of my build threads, but i need to make one just for this so people can see it more clearly. I will be doing that soon with the current packs im building

Thanks for the advice, DV. To ask, do you wind up having to re-align the thrusters a lot? I can see the flexibility of using magnets (I'm using them on the rocket itself as well), but wondered if you frequently need to tweak the thrusters back into the correct position.

I never added any additional piping myself. I kinda just epoxied the stuff where I needed it to be (the holes I drilled seemed a little lop-sided so I decided not to bother with it).

So far it's held up great, even kicked it by accident a few times and it's completely ok and undamaged. I do however wish I could've made it so the thrusters could move and stuff but I'm happy with how it turned out!
 
no PVC
Tap a hole and insert a threaded rod into the thruster
Drill a corresponding hole inside the jetpack thruster hole
Then use a washer and butterfly nut inside the pack.
It's not Rocket Surgery ;)

MOWs pack isnt like that on the inside. I wish it was lol. It is just a slight indentation to show where you cut the hole. So in essence...you have a hole in the side of the pack. Which is why i put a piece of ABS there to attach the thruster with magnets. You could also do it with the wingnut as you said there, but youd need the ABS plate there to attach it too.
 
I really dont know why it isnt like that actually. thats such a better way to go, so you can attach them as you did. I think i may fabricate something i can cast to attach in there to make em like that. hmmmmmm
 
Why not take an end cap for the PVC and glue it inside the Jetpack so it will effectively have the same setup add a bolt to the thuster and drill the end cap and use a wingnut like BFUK JP does. U may have to shape the open end of the end cap to make it work.

I was just thinking the same thing. It should work.

I made a key hole slot for mine, I glued a little notch onto the thruster assembly arm, and cut a notch out of the hole it slides into, hence the key hole. The thruster is inserted upside down, then rotated, the key tooth on the thruster arm keeps it from slipping out of the hole unless rotated upside down again for removal. The hooks on the end are where I attach an elastic band, that put the thrusters snug to keep them from sagging, but still let me move them around if I wish, and also gives them a little give, just in case I were to bump into something.

So, I can remove the thrusters at will with very little work involved, and they wont fall off or sag. Hope this helps.
