Alrighty,

Mardon's got himself a Marmit Fett...and's itching to make the sidearm blaster...in fiberglass!

    I'm sure interested, anyone else?

Also, are there any other ref. pics that help w/ the detail on the blaster, or is the Marmit piece as accurate as it gets?

    take care,

I started this project awhile ago but have put it on hold while setting up my new workshop. I could throw together the reference I gathered for my project if you think it'll help. Just let me know

I planned on doing basically the same thing, scaling the Marmit with what we know of the movie used pistol (which is very little since we have no pics of it out of the holster).

Here are my best pics of the sidearm:

Phil (JMP) has good pics of his own 1:1 sidearm blaster, but it seems somewhat different from the Marmit version. Dunno for sure. Hopefully, he'll be glad to share his immaculate pics on here

MaxPlague - I would be honored to check out your reference pics and if you could kindly send 'em thru my e-mail (mlcallanta@edsamail.com.ph), I'll appreciate it!

Mardon, I'll gather up what I have and send it your way tonight.

Oh, and Phil's gun is a re-tooled Bespin security guard blaster based on the Nemrod Galeon speargun, that's why it doesn't look exactly like the Marmit pistol.

Sent ya an email of the pics I had on my office computer. I'll check my home computers tonight too for any others that might be of help. I'd send you my preliminary "blueprints" but I haven't looked at them for awhile and can't remember how finished they are.

Mardon, it would be also cool to see done the other parts of the armor that go with your chest armor, like shoulders and collar. I want those parts badly, I have been waiting for an accurate set of those parts for a long time, pleeeease.

The pics Max posted are pretty much the best. Since you are scratch building the side-arm, I would only use the Marmit to produce the areas of the side-arm that are covered by the holster, which is just about the whole thing :p ) Then put that Marmit away and use the photos to create an accurate grip area and nozzle.

    Hey thanks guys!
I got a few hours to kill, so the result is what you see above posted by MaxP. BTW- thanks for hosting the pics, man!

I'll have my worker do some bondo work on the grip by Monday & will send you another pic. I'll also get a quote by then, so Tuesday will be the 'interest' thread.

One question thou: the Marmit blaster is brown - do you want us to use a brown gelcoating for the Fiberglass, or do you want us to make it similar to our buckets & JP which is grey primer?
Take note that the gelcoat is not paint or final color...it is just the bare color that the FG product will be done in.
    Pls, LMK asap.

While on the topic.....do you think we should also explore the holster to place these blasters in? Is that in leather?
    LMK as well.

Hey, how about FG shin tools?

Okay, wait a second, you're asking us if we would like to see your take on a holster too?

Do you think we're retarded? :p

I guess I can't speak for everyone, but, I'd certainly love to see a holster made to hold this blaster.

As for the the blaster colour . . . I think we're all going to be painting them anyway, so, it doesn't really matter. However, if you make it the colour of the marmit blaster, might be a little nicer, in case some paint wears off in the holster.

    Just my thoughts anyway.

    Jer

P.S. When you make my blaster (because I'm already in, I don't need to know anything more ) . . throw in my rangefinder and keyholes too! hehehe

    Hey Mardon, great job!!!

I agree with tylerdurden: I'd like to see the grip and nozzle based more on reference pictures of the actual thing than on a second generation small scale toy gun. But I'd still be interested in what you've done above.

The trigger guard, or whatever it's called, seems slightly too big in relation to the gun to me.

Any chance of seeing the bottom of the grip? Maybe from the top as well?

As for holsters, YES! That would be fantastic!

From what I have read here, the holster is thought to be a Nemrod speargun holster, something like this:

Since these are used by divers, I doubt highly it would be leather. Don't rightly now what it'd be made of. Plastic?

    Cheers!

    Thanks again guys!

Okay, to answer some of your questions:

Ego - yeah, thats what I thought on the gelcoat, thus the reason I asked. You're right, gelcoating something near its intended color would be beneficial againts scratches. In short, if your paint gets scratched, atleast it would show brown rather than a different color - question is, what would be the color of your primer?
Even though we gelcoat it in Brown & you use a grey primer before painting it, wouldnt it show grey if it get scratched?
Unless ofcourse if there's a brown primer....

TJ - I understand your point, but even though the Marmit version is 1/6 scale, it is still better replicating a 3D model that you can hold rather than 'guestimating' 2D pics......which isnt even clear to begin with.

I may have not explained it clearly, but the pics above posted by MaxP would still require bondo/filling by my worker in the grip area. The Marmit grip has a wave design & the 2 horizontal lines (the upper line is a frown) you see on the pics above are just the pinnacles of the wave/ridge line. Once thats bondoed, you would see the final shape which we will be posting pics of.
    No worries.....it will look good

As for the holster.....my bad, thought it was made in leather. I'm not a diver & havent seen this before, sorry.
Is that Nemrod speargun holster easily available?
If you guys can find that, then I dont think I would need to replicate it.
If its something hard, then it could probably be made out of Fiberglass....but you guys are the expert, so LMK.

I getcha, and my concern was more with the nozzle than the grip.

But like I said, I think you've done an amazing job and I'd happliy buy one As Is. Doubtless it will look even better when it's bondoed and all.

Also, I'm blown away at what you can do with cardboard man. I can barely make a paper airplane. Wow!

Nope. I don't even know if it's the real one, and your gun might not fit into it. Also it has a sheath type dealy for a diving knife which has to be removed. It'd be a good starting point.

The one I posted is made from a nomex / rubber-type material. But I think whatever you made it from that the accuracy of the shape would be far more important that the material it's made from.

    Cheers!

Re: MLC ESB Sidearm Blaster *UPDATE 1* PICS!

    Hi TJ,

    Understood!
In cases such as this, then I think it is safe to assume that we have to make the holster from available pics instead of a 3D version that I could hold......well, the Marmit holster is there, but if there are available pics such as the one you posted above, then that would help greatly in making it.

However, the holster will be made out of FG....would this be okay for everyone? LMK

One question: does anyone have an opinion if the trigger of the blaster goes inside the holster.....'coz the Marmit version shows the trigger exposed when the blaster is in the holster.
I cant be sure from seeing those blurred pics.....

Re: MLC ESB Sidearm Blaster *UPDATE 1* PICS!

I could live with FG myself. I mean, it's made of a rigid rubber anyway, so it's not like it has to "flex" like a leather holster would.

I think the trigger is partially exposed like on the Marmit. I think the major failing of the Marmit set-up is that not enough of the nozzle shows through the opening at the bottom.

At least on mine and on this image.

    Which I liberated from here:

    http://tdh.prop-planet.com/viewtopic...c=1374&forum=5

I'm guessing the silver bit in the second picture is the trigger.

Re: MLC ESB Sidearm Blaster *UPDATE 1* PICS!

Hey that pic looks familiar! That's my Marmit blue screen technique (read photo behind the Marmit).

I'd agree that the barrel seems much longer out of the holster on the real side-arm.

Mardon, I am going to have respectfully disagree in going by the Marmit over reference photos. I understand from a construction standpoint that a 3-d model is, of course, ideal. However in following the Marmit, you are assuming that it is a screen-accurate piece. But in the end, the Marmit is just an action figure. While much of the blaster remains a mystery, we have some good shots of the real grip and nozzle.

If someone could get ahold of the Nemrod holster, it would be a great starting point for scale (assuming it is close in scale to the real holster, which may very well be a Nemrod holster).

I got to say that the barrel on my Marmit gun sticks out of the holster almost as much as the one in the picture of the real gun. Looking at the picture of the Marmit gun I think that it could be pushed downe a bit further.

Tyler....do you have any clear/close-up pics of the barrel tip & grip?

Not trying to say that the Marmit is the final word....but in the "absence of clear definitive pics", its the next best thing to go on.
As for the Holster, I think the Nemrod design is the way to go.

    Sweet lookin' update buddy,

Only criticisms I can see . . . . at the base of the grip, it looks like on the original (not the marmit per se), there is a bit of a lip that goes around it.

The only other thing is that (to me anyway), the back end of the gun doesn't look quite right. In the pics I've seen of the original, it almost looks more tubular (think as if you were holding the gun out in front of you to shoot, and you were looking from the back, towards the barrel) . . .

Those are the only things that look a little off to me.

But . . . I'm still quite positive this will be the closest thing we've ever seen!

    Hey Jer,

Thanks for the critique buddy, appreciate it.

The butt does have a lip...a slight one which you could see & feel, but I could always make it bigger. The pics dont really show the curvatures & other details most specially when the flash of the camera drowns it out. Naturally, the pinkish color hue of the bondo doesnt help much either.

By "tubular", do you mean squarish/rectangular? Anyway, LMK & I'll look into it.

    thanks again buddy!

Lookin' real good Mardon! This is going to be an awesome piece when it's done!

Here's my input, for what it's worth.

Maybe square the butt end a little:

The actual pistol has more flare to the bottom:

And finally, you're right about the pictures of the nozzle. They suck.

There's no way in the world I could express how I think it looks, so I drew my interpretation of it:

The section with lines looks to me like...um...like a screw cap. If you know what I mean. Anyway, that's what it looks like to me based on ****** images. I could be way off myself. I dunno.

    Anyway, hope that helps!

Mine however are not nearly as nicely rendered as Jeezy's.

Good eyes you guys...Mardon is hitting the same points of debate I came up against while working on mine (but he's still closer to finishing than I am ).

It's a real trick scaling the Marmit pistol and merging it with what we can sort of see on the limited reference pics...but he's got a firm grasp on it and is doing a great job. This is going to be one cool blaster!

That Bespin blaster is a different gun bud. It was once thought to also be the Fett blaster, but the grips are totally different.

That back end of the receiver looks similar though. We'll find the original someday, but for now scaling the Marmit is the best way to go I think.

WOW! I have NEVER seen a better example of what TDH is all about than in this project! Mardon, you're the Leader in this, of course, but the TEAMWORK you are commanding from your fellow TDHers, who have posted above, just gives me all those warm & fuzzy feelings, that make me PROUD to be a part of these boards! LONG LIVE TDH!

Nahhh....I'm no leader, I'm just the worker :-)
You guys know more about these than I ever could......

I just wanted to think that each project we make would be a collaboration of great talents from this board - thus this is for everybody.
...and if we're successfull in creating it, then its the success of the group as a whole and not by any individual.

I'm just glad to know that you guys joined me in the journey!

Looking great man! But I think your first barrel tip was closer to being correct (not so much of a taper going on). Here's a compilation from the guru, Brak's Buddy:

I'll dig for my drawings too.

EDIT...here was my initial take on what the tip would look like:

Like I mentioned in my email to you though, it's going to be tough to get the "definitive" barrel tip until we can find some better, more clear reference pics.

Again, you're doing a spectacular job!

    Yup! What MaxPlague said.

The nozzle size was closer before, but the tip needed a slight taper. I could have done a better job of explaining it I think. Sorry! More like this I guess:

I think what Max just posed it closer. To my eye the end has a slight taper though. I might be wrong. I say we put it to a vote? Or something.

As for the butt end, I think it should taper out more than just be like the butt is sitting on a squared piece. Like this, though maybe even a little more rounded still:

You're doing fantastic work Mardon, and I SO appreciate that you're amenable to the suggestions of anal fussbudget's like me.

    Cheers!

Here's my latest 2 cents...Mardon sent another update pic which I've incorporated into my pic below:

You can see that the black and white pic of the screen-used sidearm shows more straight lines in the design of the barrel tip. Looking at color pics, you can almost see slight bevels on the edges (called out on my pic).

What do you all think? Does that strike a good balance between tapers/bevels and straight lines?

I definitely like the length of the barrel much better on your illustration, Max. However, I don't think the tip of the barrel has that pronounced of a bevel. It seems to taper very slightly, if at all.

Yeah, you're right TD, I think I did over-pronounce it. Oooopsie !@#$!@#. I should fix it to avoid confusion...

EDIT...fixed the bevel on above pic. It should now say "maybe slight bevel" you may need to "super-refresh" if you've already seen the old pic to refresh your browser.

One step forwards, two steps back, eh Mardon.

Upon further reflection it looks more like this to me now:

With an overall tapering towards the tip.

But since I've seen footage of bigfoot that was clearer than the available reference material, I'd be just as happy with what MaxPlague did.

Hmm. The beveled edges above make me wonder if this was some sort of a sink aerator.

    Cheers!

Not to be picky but . . . the back end of hte blaster still doesn't look right to me. Maybe it's just me, if it is, I'll be quiet now! But . . . almost looks too . . . stretched out.

If you could make the little knob thing that looks like a button a bit smaller . . . then almost take what you did and just "compress" it towards the front of the blaster.

    Does that makes sense?

The first update's back of the gun looked more on to me and just needed the back tip a little longer.I see what you mean Ego.

As far as the barrel goes I like "jeezcrazy"s take on it,only give that middle section in your pic "jeezcrazy" a larger diameter...just looks too skinny when looking at the ESB pics where the barrel goes back up into the holster.

Awesome work Mardon! It's only been a few days man, you're ripping this thing UP! lol...

I agree that the back end looks a little funny. It looks great compared to the marmit but I'm not sure about it's accuracy in some parts.

Just for conversation's sake here's a pic of my sidearm blaster. It's cast from an original bespin security guard's blaster with a fett replacement nozzle. It's definitely close to his and could be argued that it's roughly the same. Just for reference:

Keep up the awesome work Mardon!

Re: MLC ESB Sidearm Blaster *Limited Run**

Okay, Mardon has several other Fett and SW projects on the back burner that he is itching to bring to the front burner!

The Sidearm blaster is going to be a limited run. Another run won't happen for a couple months, perhaps Fall,if then.

We want to ship them all at once, it keeps the cost as low as it is.

Many thanks to those who have already sent payment!

Please try to get your blaster payments in soon, the next 10-14 days will see the window closing. There has to be a deadline, it's not right to keep those who've already sent in payment waiting.

Goro, (Guido if you decide) do not worry, just cause you're overseas, you are assured of one. Time will still be on your side. I'll cover for you if need be.

We don't want a single TDHer to be dissapointed. There are just so many SW projects bouncing around Mardon's head, he wants to unleash them!

From collar armor/shoulders to go w/ his chest armor, to helmet interiors, to all manner of other "stuff"...

Hi Guido - Welcome! Bounty Hunted (Rex) got you covered, so no worries

Hi Goro - Welcome as well! I'll ship to you in Japan straight if need be Talk details with bountys hunted (Rex).

Guys: Rex is right, we might do only 1 run of these in order to keep shippng low, thus lowered cost. If we would get orders after the first run, then it might entail a higher cost due to shipping. Hope you understand.
Nonetheless, we're still working on some options to keep producing these if there's any more interest after the first run.

Holsters: Oh yes, there would be! Unfortunately, we have to finish the first run of blasters before going into making these so there wont be any delays. Besides, I'm still waiting on the 'goodies" for these.
Rest assured, that the holster project is another collaboration of great talents from this board who PM'd me about this.
We just wanted to provide you with the best product at a good price

Nothing like a final coat of paint to really set off an awesome prop!! It looks fantastic. One question and that is what is the length of the gun from tip to tip? I'm curious if it's close in size to my Bespin blaster with the aluminum "Fett barrel".

    There will indeed.

I'm having my Nemrod holster shipped to Mardon:

Other than a knife sheath, a rubber ring and the Nemrod logo, it's pretty much a dead-ringer for the real holster. I'm confident Mardon will do it justice and that there will finally be a decent sidearm and holster on the market.

Special thanks to tylerdurden for rerouting this thing and, more importantly, for his perspicacity.

BF - I just had my worker mix some paint up to look like brown. I just asked him & he said its a mixture of red, black, white & yellow....dunno if this helps you out. I guess each of you would have their own preference in brown color or matching it closely to your ammo pouch/belt, etc.

The blaster would be gelcoated in brown & will be sent to you unpainted.

Hey guys, just letting you know that you can take me off the list...sorry, took me awhile to notice I was on it.

Even though your's looks fantastic, I still am working on building my own at this point. However, if I fail miserably I know who to call

We completed 10 blasters already. Currently, we need 5 more for new orders for a total of 15.
This will ship to Rex along with JP & bucket orders.
