General Mid-Budget ESB built

Cleaning and sanding the MLS pulce 40 using multiple tools: dremel, different types of sandpaper and files.

Then I sprayed the first layer of grey primer to see smaller imperfections.

Now I can start to fill the small gaps and holes with fast drying filler.

Hello TDH fellows, greetings from germany. :)

I´m a member since 2005, have done 2 ROTJ Boba Fett costumes, but this is the first time to post some WIP pictures.
Now I´m doing the ESB version, which I love the most of all versions.:D

In the first picture you can see what I´ve got so far.

Cape + Chest Electronics: TK409
EE3 Blaster Kit: Sidewinder - built and painted by me
Rifle Leather Sling: 99centTaco
Jet Pack Rocket: from another TDH member via cargo hold
Flightsuit + Sidepouches + Ankle Ties + Gloves + Holster: Bobamaker
Wookie Braids: Woodman
Sidearm: from "flea bay" - reworked and painted by me
Girth Belt: also from "flea bay"
Shin Tools made by myself using the wizardofflight templates

Just curious what did you make your shin tools out of?
and what was the process behind them.

ALSO how'd you make your EE-3?

The material for the shin tools I used is named hardfoam board. The thickness I used is 3mm, so it´s in several layers. You can also use sintra. The WOF blueprints were really helpful. You can find them here: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f20/shin-tool-templates-blueprints-wof-13696/

The EE-3 kit I bought from sidewinder from the UK, he´s also a member at TDH.

Hope I could help? :)

Hey and hello from Dortmund ;)

I enjoy reading and looking at your post's.
Gives me many inspirations for my own Armor.I ordered some 3mm sintra sheets and will start the same build like you. Guess i will ask several questions and hope you can help me a bit.

rock n roll

Daniel

Yes that was helpful :)
I've noticed the templates are in parts. So did you just glue them all together? How do they feel?

Ah does he do ROTJ EE-3's too :)

Drilled the hole for the pulce 40 sidearm barrel into the end of the nemrod holster copy. The holster is made of thick layers of fibreglas, so I used a dremel to be much faster than sanding by hand.
PA120823.JPGPA120822.JPG

First I used the end-part of the barrel to mark the circumreference of the hole.
PA120821.JPGPA120824.JPG

After that I used the dremel to drill some small holes to start with until a cut the complete part.
PA120826.JPG

Now I could start to sand the edges and make the hole a little bigger than the end-part of the barrel.
PA120827.JPGPA120828.JPG

Here you can see the result. In the end, it´s a little bit more oval than round, so I can pull the gun better. ;)
PA120829.JPGPA120830.JPG

Into the front part of the barrel, I drilled a small hole, to create the illusion that it´s hollow.
PA130821.JPGPA130826.JPG

To hide the gaps, I´ll use two plastic washer, which I´ll glue into the front part. They got the exact outer circumference.
PA130829.JPGPA130832.JPG

Before glueing, I sand the inner hole a little bit, so it gets a little bit wider.
PA130830.JPG

Now the two washers a glued into position and some primer can be sprayed onto the front.
PA130836.JPGPA130838.JPG

So... painting time! ;)
For the barrel I use chrome. The sidearm will get a brown acrylic paint and rub´n´buff wax "silver leaf".
PA130839.JPGPA130840.JPGPA130841.JPG

For the rub´n´buff wax I need: gloves and an old rag. Just some minor drips and then rub it smooth on in circles.
PA130843.JPGPA130844.JPGPA130845.JPGPA130846.JPGPA130847.JPG

Now the brown acrylic paint: I need 2 brushes (a small and a bigger one), water (just to clean the brushes) and a kitchen towel.
PA130850.JPGPA130851.JPGPA130852.JPG

That´s all for today. Next will be put on 2 more layers of the brown acrylic, then weathering... So stay tuned! ;)

Some more painting and started the first subtile weathering...
PA140825.JPG

Black acrylic paint to fill the 3 recesses instead of cutting them out. I´m afraid the barrel would just break.
PA140827.JPG

Weathering time! Just a few minor coats of black acrylic paint with some water and sweaping away with a kitchen paper.
PA140829.JPGPA140830.JPGPA140831.JPGPA140836.JPGPA140837.JPGPA140839.JPGPA140842.JPGPA140841.JPG

More to come...

Done a little more black-wash weathering today.
PA150821.JPG

Now the time has come for sealing the paint. The main body (not the barrel - this will stay shiny) will be sprayed with a satin clear coat.
PA150823.JPG

So after some weeks of permanently spraying on the satin clear coat and let it dry each time for 2-3 days it´s finished:

The "Molon Labe Studios" (better known as MLS) fantastic ESB Pulce 40 sidearm.

Can you tell me where you got your magnets from?
I've been using pop studs, but to be blunt, they're crap.
The fitting you have here looks awesome.

Started the rework of my helmet.

First of all, I had to glue the visor back to the helmet. I think during the transport and not enough glue, it got loose.
PB120889.JPGPB120890.JPG

Next was to re-do the main dent. It should be silver... Therefore I used "Chrome Effect". I sprayed some minor paint into a plastic cup and put the chrome on with a small brush. After it has dryed, I´ll weather it.
PB120892.JPGPB120891.JPGPB120894.JPGPB120895.JPG

Then corrected the symbol on the left ear. Fist I scratched away the misshaped symbol with an exacto knife. Then I used a template which I printed out, put some tape on (to prevent it from getting wet in rain as example), cut it out with an exacto knife and just glued it on the helmet.
PB120899.JPGPB120896.JPGPB120902.JPGPB120904.JPGPB120906.JPGPB120907.JPGPB120909.JPGPB120910.JPG

Now to the right ear... It´s the same problem like on the left ear. The symbol is not correct. Once again I scratched away the symbol with an exacto knife, but this time I painted the symbol on, using a 1mm waterproofed black pen.
PB120916.JPGPB120918.JPGPB120921.JPG

The right ear piece needed some more scratches. This was done with an exacto knife.
PB120911.JPGPB120912.JPG

The kill stripes in the back area, in my opinion look a little bit too red/orange. I like them more yellow... so just did some minor yellow acryl painting in some areas.
PB120922.JPGPB120923.JPG

The last for today... I sanded the base of the MQ-1 chip into shape, to make it a little bit thinner.
PB120924.JPGPB120927.JPG

Ordered a Deluxe ESB Rangefinder with aluminium stalk from Bobamaker and won´t rework the 3D printed one with the red LEDs just glued on top...
