General Mid-Budget ESB built

Now I cut the tube in the correct size. Therefore I put the rocket into the jetpack and marked the base red.

Glued a plastic and a metal washer on top of the tube hole to make it a little stiffer.

I cut the tube 2mm too short. So I cut a part of a paper towel tube and glued it to the outside of the plastic tube. (Looks like futuristic robot-spider with the clamps) ;)

Then I put some some slow drying gel superglue on the edge of the tube, put it over the screw on the inside of the jetpack and fixed it with the nut.

This has to dry until tomorrow...

Finished the installation of the thrusters... Blood, sweat and nearly tears... ;) But I´m so happy with the result! :)

First I had to sand the pre-cut holes, because Bobamaker´s thruster-mounts have a slightly bigger diameter then the Ruffkinstoys ones. I marked the size with a plastic tube, in which the mount fits perfect. Then used a dremel to sand the opening.

I used plastic tubes (former package of vitamin effervescent tablets) in which the tubes of the thrusters fit perfectly. To mount the screws, I used metal washers and metall bands with holes (which I could wrap around the plastic tube for stabilisation), gaffer tape and a lot of hotglue.

After glueing one side and being sure, that it sits straight, I repeat this procedure

This is how it looks from the outside without the thruster.

Here a view on the masses of hotglue on the inside, to keep the plastic tubes in position.

Now for the first time, the jetpack stands on it´s feet! ;)

The thrusters are still movable with some pressure, so they stay in postion and removable for transport.

Next will be painting...

Installed the awesome beacon light kit from JC27 today. Put some industrial velcro on the main-box. Then build a platform out of hardfoam and put some velcro on it, too. The platform I glued onto the bottom on the inside of the jetpack using hotglue. Now I just have to open the door and switch it on.

A hard decision, how to paint the dental file. I asked several members: some suggested the blue variant, some said it would look like the same green the jetpack is coloured with. All the pics of the ESB jetpack shown from set, are too bad to recognize...

So, I decided to go the green route, because I don´t like to add a colour, which is too intensive and disturbes the harmony of green, red, yellow plus the weathering. I took an antique green, which is very close to the "main" green, but allowes the dental file to be recognized.

This thread is truly amazing. As I embark on my own ESB Boba journey, I am sure I will reference this post often. Thank you for taking the time and effort to document your build. I, and I am sure a great many just beginning their build or looking for ways to improve what they have already, appreciate all you have done. Terrific work!

Thank you very much! I do my best! :)

Started to paint the rocket and thrusters. The red on the thrusters is a light red acrylic paint. The yellow on the rocket is humbrol No.99. But I think it´s too bright, so I´ll paint this area later with an acrylic yellow. The dark red on the rocket is the same as on the piano keys.

Main-colours: ready. Painted the first details on the thrusters. I´m getting closer to the finish. :)

Next will be painting the brown details on the thrusters, weathering the parts and...

...painting "the Owl". ;)
P5111132.JPG

Painted "the Owl" today and put on some black and brown weathering.
P5121141.JPG

Also worked on the thrusters... I build some greeblies, to simulate some kind of mechanics on the inside of the thrusters. Therefore i used two plastic parts from some non-functional headphones, two plastic locks, two screws and a plastic endcap. Not to forget: hotglue and gel superglue. After I glued them into the thrusters, I painted the inside black, as if the heat had burned it.

Now the maroon marks were painted and the first layers of weathering put on.
