General Mid-Budget ESB built

While the primer dries, I used the time to install a leftover light & sound module from a HASBRO EE-3 Blaster Rifle into my right gauntlet. I know it´s not accurate, but I like to surprise people with this gimmick. Also sometimes carrying Blasters is not allowed on some events in Germany, I will be able to do some "shooting". ;)

Here´s a little video... and YES it´s Lasse approaching in the background. ;)

Started with some filling today... then sanding, some more primer... This I will repeat, until I´m happy with a smooth surface. ;)

P2281009.JPG

Now I´ll let the second layer of primer dry for 24 hours. In between I tried the fitting of the rocket mounting. More sanding and filling to come...

P2281015.JPGP2281014.JPGP2281018.JPG

Today I glued the rocket mounting in position.

First I had to make sure it sits in the correct line with the jetpack-body. There are some huge gaps in some areas.
P2291009.JPG

With a dremel I sanded the underside of the rocket mounting as far as possible.
P2291010.JPG

After I glued the rocket mounting, I filled the left gaps, which are a little bit smaller than in the beginning.
P2291011.JPG

After the filler was dry, I could sand it and put on some primer. Some more filling has to be done.
P3011015.JPG

Now the time has come, where I´ll need to do some work on the inside.

Therefore I cut out the prepared area with a dremel.
P2291012.JPGP2291013.JPG

Here I found, what I expected: some areas with a very thin layer of fibreglas. To beware of cracks, if the jetpack might fall or I hit something too hard, I´ll fill those areas.
P3011016.JPGP3011017.JPG

Started to fill the thin areas.

Yesterday my lovely wife came home from work and had a surprise for me... a Kerr metal dental file for my jetpack! :) It felt like christmas. She watched me the last days searching the forum and the web for sources and references... I never expected, that her boss (an older dentist) would have one in an old box in the storage. :)

A little bit top and bottom pieces for the side tanks done today. All 4 pieces will be glued but for safety also hold in place by screws.

Put on some primer and sanded them smooth.
P3031014.JPG

I had to do some rough sanding on the bottom of 1 top and 1 bottom part, because they were bigger than the other ones.
P3031018.JPGP3031016.JPGP3041023.JPGP3041024.JPGP3041021.JPGP3041022.JPGP3041025.JPG

Then I had to drill the holes on top and bottom of the side tanks, so I could mark from the inside where the screws will sit later.
P3041029.JPGP3041026.JPG

Now that I had to drill, I could also prepare the holes for the beacon and stabilizer. Here a first test.
P3041036.JPG

Here you can see the arrangement. For the top pieces I´ll use longer screws. But the bottom ones have to be shorter to leave enough space for the 2 thrusters.
P3041028.JPG

The mark is made, so I can dremel the area to fit in the screw.
P3041031.JPGP3041032.JPG

The bottom piece is taped into position while the screw is fixed with gel superglue on the inside. Now repeat this for the other pieces. ;)
P3041033.JPG

After the glue is dry, I can fill the the gaps with some more gel superglue and after that with filler.
P3041034.JPGP3041039.JPG

That´s all for now... ;)

P3041035.JPG

Used some modeller´s files for cleaning the edges of the piano keys.
P3071008.JPG

To secure the screws from the inside, I cut some scratch/leftover pieces of hardfoam into a rough shape and made an opening for the screw.
P3071010.JPG

Now I could glue the sidetank pieces in position with a slow-drying repair gel. So in case they won´t fit perfect the first time, I could change the position.
P3071009.JPG

After the gel glue was dry, I could put the hardfoam pieces onto the screws. The first ones I glued with hotglue, the other layers using gel superglue. Then at last I could screw on the washer and mother.
P3081011.JPGP3081012.JPG

The difficult part is now to get the sidetanks and the pieces in one (nearly) perfect line. Therefore I use first of all a dremel, then some sandpaper to get them in shape. After that I fill the gaps and sand it again. This I will repeat, until I get a straight line. At the moment the filler on the top of the sidetanks has to dry.

My jetpack is leaking... No, serious. I´m still sanding and filling some areas and had to recognize two cracks on the left side between the side- and center-tank... that sucks... So some more filling, from the out- and inside, is requiered. :(

had yours same problems with my ruffkin toys jetpack xD
it's also a little heavy :wacko

The problems are getting worse all the time. You fixed one end and behind the corner the next problem is waiting. ;)
I thought to save some money on doing it all myself, but now I know this was the wrong path. I was so unhappy with the misshaped rocket and thrusters, that I ordered perfect ones from Bobamaker. These parts are nearly the price of the jetpack, but I don´t want to spend any time to repair and change these delivered parts. :( And YES it´s heavy.

I had no clue Ruffkintoy was still around,

Not at TDH. From time to time he offers a jetpack kit at ebay.

Recieved my jetpack hooks and clips from "Full Metall Fett" today! Amazing products!!! Now I can´t await his "US Divers" belt buckle to arrive! ;)
P3181052.JPG

Used a reddish/brownish filler-primer spray to seal the last minor gaps. I think I´m nearly ready to start painting this "Mitrinomon Z-6" jetpack. Hope Bobamaker´s rocket and thrusters will arrive in the next 2-3 weeks, so I could paint it all at once. ;)

In real life it looks like a CHOCOLATE jetpack now. You really want start eating it. ;)

I marked the place, where to position the KERR metal dental file.
P3221047.JPGP3221050.JPG

This is the harness I´ll be using for my jetpack. It´s an older, used german "Tragegestell". The main belt will be raised to the chest and the back will get an hardfoam plate, where the aluminium bar for the jetpack clips will be connected. Also the straps, which will be connected to the jetpack hooks, will be fixed.
P3221058.JPGP3221059.JPGP3221060.JPG

Now to the installation of the jetpack hooks and clips, wonderful products from "full metal fett". Thanks again, mate! :)

First I mounted the lower clips.
P3221051.JPGP3221052.JPGP3221053.JPGP3221066.JPG

I bought an aluminium bar and cut it in the length, which will be mounted to the harness. After that I bend it, to match it to the curve of the jetpack.
P3221054.JPGP3221055.JPGP3221057.JPGP3221056.JPG

Then the installation of the hooks followed. Therefore I measured the space between the slots of my back armor and angled the hooks a little bit like in this guide. View attachment BBF JP Harness Instl Guide_Mar 2012.pdf

Also were busy the last days creating a harness-plate. Made of 5 layers hardfoam each 3mm thick- Into the layers I worked a webbed strapping to hold 2 5cm square rings for the comming belt and 2 smaller rings with webbing for the planned side straps running under the shoulder. Still work in progress.
