metal can mean a whole world of different things.

my suit it almost all metal at this point. helmet, chest, back, shoulders, cod, kidney. it's thick stuff... 1/8" - 1/4". everything but the back is aluminum. the back is steel.

it looks great, it's durable, and it's perfect for layered weathering.

it's also heavy, conducts cold and heat way more than other materials (so you feel colder in the cold and hotter in the hot!), and it's heavy.

there are folks that make thinner stuff, out of sheet metal. i have no personal experience there, so i can't really comment on it.

so it really depends on what you're going for.

^ Why did I have a feeling you'd be chiming in on this one?

I had armor made out of sheet metal. It was light-weight and flexible, but there was one downside: it was SHARP. It was so sharp it actually cut right through my jumpsuit!

If your considering getting armor made of metal, then i would talk to wickedbeard. I have a set and it is great. Light weight, durable, and looks real! Do a search for his posts and you'll see his amazing work.

My armor was made from sheet aluminum. I love it! It's lightweight, flexible and not to mention that it's got a interesting look and "feel". People are surprised to see metal armor... most assume it's plastic.

Besides, it stays put with velcro!!! Gotta love that!
