Man of War Jetpack Thruster assembly help.

Hi,

I have finally started to get somewhere with my MOW jetpack. I have hit a roadblock in terms of attaching the thrusters. I haven't seen any threads of people assembling their kits using the PVC method. I am struggling to get anywhere. I have drilled the holes to fit them in, but they're not sitting very flush. I've realised I have spent enough on this kit and all the aluminium parts & the harness that I shouldn't **** this up.

I have seen this thread by Darth Voorhees: http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f25/tk231s-esb-jetpack-build-44907/

That uses magnets (Post #29), but I don't have access to a sheet of ABS and I couldn't see from the photo where he's stuck them. Any help or ideas would be good. Thanks :)

Try going to a sign shop and asking them for some scraps of styrene or ABS. Might have to pay a small amount, the scraps might be in odd shapes, but likely it will be more than enough to work with. Bring in a photo or two or even your project if you think that will help.

I've seen threads on here and and RPF for years recommending going to a sign shop to buy scraps, and I always thought "yeah that worked for you, Mr. Guy on the Internet, but there's no way that would work for me." Then I realized a shop isn't too far from my work. I drove by it at lunch for a month or two before I got the, err, thermal detonators, to go in there and make that "I'm working on a Star Wars project and I need part XYZ and you're looking at me like I have two heads" speech that we've all made in stores at one time or another.

What do you know, it worked, I got a huge amount of long rectangular 1/8 styrene scraps for USD$20, big enough for all sorts of costume uses plus many many spares. Plus, the guy offered to be a source of 4ft-square or 8x4ft sheets if I ever needed those sizes.

Good luck and thanks for posting the link s to the other threads, those are helpful too.

Any other help? I'm looking seriously into the PVC pipe way of doing it that MOW recommends. Any photos of how to cut the holes in the JP & how to assemble etc?

You may have tried this route already, but maybe MOW could send you some photos or other helpful info.

I did that sign shop thing one time after thinking all of the same things Azrok did. I was out of town, saw the shop and thought "what the heck."

I walked in and a life-sized Darth Vader was staring down at me from the corner. I thought "man, did I pick the right place or what!?!" I looked to my left and there were all kinds of SW helmets across the far end of the shop on a shelf. I "wasted" an entire morning with the owner as he showed me all kinds of things he was working on. Very cool, and he hooked me up with what I needed at his cost. :)

Hey bud, i actually have been doing it differently now. I use a piece of PVC pipe with one end covered with ABS sheet. I attache the pipe to the inside of the pack with epoxy and drill a hole in the end for a threaded rod and wingnut. Similar to the way BFUK's pack is made. Or magnets can be used. We got some crazy kids around here so i thought the threaded rod/wingnut would be a better option to upgrade to. This would prevent said kids from just pulling the thrusters off the pack. I built my last 2 commissioned packs like this, i will likely upgrade my own to this method as well.

Legend. Cheers mate. I think that method will work the best, just hearing it. How have you attached the piping though so it's secure enough?
