making a plastic toy blaster look more realalistic
Ok, I have a toy blaster someone gave me. I'm trying to make it look more realalistic. I already got some great idea's from one poster here and I was wondering if anybody else had any thoughts for me.
I'm going to bondo and paint it. Does anyone else have any ideas?
Here's what it looks like before I started:

Re: making a plastic toy blaster look more realalistic
You could add little metal and plastic greeblie parts and how about a strap?

Re: making a plastic toy blaster look more realalistic
I would definately fill the holes and seam with the bondo. The dart holder there looks like it would be perfect to hold some modified metal cigar tubes that you could make into grenades. Fill the gap between the red end and the body. Definately add he greeblies. Maybe add a few metal rods down the sides or something. Paint the hell out of the thing and you will have a **** fine blaster!
:D

Actually, it reminds me of a bowcaster, without the bow part on it. Neat find.

Re: making a plastic toy blaster look more realalistic
Thanks for the idea's. I've bondoed and put the first coat of paint on it so far. This is the first time I've done anything with bondo so it's not perfect but I think it looks pretty good. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Yeah, Bondo is a love/hate thing with me too. You can shape it to look nice, but oh the sanding and the sticking mess it makes..
Post some new photos for us.

Now remember, this is just bondo, primer and sanded.
I hope the pics work, if not I'll fix them later.

Re: making a plastic toy blaster look more realalistic
Thanks everyone *blush* I'm running into a little trouble with the paint job though. It's not turning out like I want it to so I may have to strip it, and repaint it.

Re: making a plastic toy blaster look more realalistic
Still looks a little too 2-Dimnsional to me. i'd add something to the sides and maybe a "silencer" or "cooling tube" to extend the barrel out a bit. You know something with some holdes in it.

hmmm sounds cool Geo, I'll see what I can do about that

Re: making a plastic toy blaster look more realalistic
Hey, that's the Hasbro Chewbacca bowcaster with the crossbow section removed! We did the same thing for my kid's Boba Fett gun. Where the little nerf "bullet" holders are, we got some of these tiny flashlights with two buttons on the side that looked rather weaponlike and put four of them in the little holders. He calls them grenades. :D
