Madmartigan's MOW ROTJ jetpack...

I was fortunate enough to score one of the last classic jet packs made by Christian before he retired the molds. :jet pack

...And then it sat in my garage for a long time while I made excuses to work on everything but the jet pack. I'd pull it out from time to time, sand a little here, fill a little there, but it seemed like it would take forever to complete it.

Well, a week or so ago I ran out of other stuff to work on and finally had to face it. I went to town with Bondo and sandpaper. Then I braved the primer, wetsanding, silver, and wetsanding some more...

Finally over the course of the last week, I really jumped in. I was up to my ears in masking tape, reference photos, and Pollyscale paint. Last night I was literally up to my ears in paint, as my wife pointed out the perfect dab of Light Blue on the tip of my nose. :D

But it was all worth it. I really hope I've done one of Christian's last the proper justice:

All layered with airbrushed symbols. I used WOF's decal template/instructions and actually cut the symbols out of masking tape with an Xacto knife. It worked! I might have overdone the grimy black a little in a couple of spots, but hey! The guy is in the desert after all!

Many thanks especially to Nate (slave1pilot) for answering my PMs and for his tutorials, along with Darthmiller for his own tutorial, gbeef's showoff thread, and the reference photo archive, as well. And thanks to Eric (superjedi) for working on my FPH to free me up to do this!

That marks the last major piece for me in my outfit. I need to rig a rocket attachment system (magnets??), attach my Serenity beacon and stabilizer, get and attach my jet pack hooks (in another 2 weeks) and fabricate a harness. Then I'm truly down to little things like shin tools and boot spikes. *whew*

Let me know what you think!!

The only way it could look any better is if you painted it ESB.

Lack the patience. lol

After doing my original Mystery Helmet, I never could have done another ESB. And my MH wasn't nearly as accurate as I would have wanted the FPH to be....

I doubt seriously I could have even come CLOSE to Eric's work on it. I'm proud enough of my armor and jet pack that I might offer myself to paint others next spring, but helmets? Too much work. I admire you for the fantastic job you did on yours!

Killer job... so why didnt you paint your helmet yourself?
