Apr 24, 2012, 7:06 PM - Looking for Rattle can solutions for ESB Armor #1

    Hey Gang

was wondering if anyone knew of good spray paint alternatives to air brushing to get a close enough paint scheme for the ESB armor

    Thanks

Rustoleum Satin Spruce green VERY LIGHTLY Misted randomly (not all over) with rustoleum hunt club green and krylon black primer. Then matte clear coated.Thats what i used on mine. Here are 2 pics from the same event, one indoors under incandescent lighting and one outside in cloudy weather:

I also discovered Krylon "Italian olive" Which is a tad more yellowish/greyer. I plan to use this to alternate the color on some parts when i update my JP and gauntlets to the newest MOW parts.

I live in New Jersey so buying American is no problem

And yup I tried to find the colors on that list and came up empty on a few of them

Hence why I am asking about them in this thread.

Darth Voorhees what colors did you use for the shoulder bells and knee pads and the cheeks and mandibles of your helmet?

Just updated the list with paint alternatives to the two discontinued Valspar colors and added a new ROTJ Killstripe color. The rest of the colors are still available.

Hey Italian... where in NJ are you? I'm in Passaic county.

If you're looking for eventual 501st approval you should sign up at 501st Legion: The Northeast Remnant

Great bunch of people there and we have a member currently building an ESB Fett.

    Good luck!

The helmet colors are actually the airbrush colors.

The shoulder bells i did both with krylon signal yellow. Then i misted the right shoulder (and knee) with testors go mango. Kind went back and foruth misting the signal yellow and go mango till i was ahppy with the shade. Then i misted both shoulders and knees with the krylon black primer to tone down the signal yellow and give it an overall weathered look

the reason i use the black primer to weather rather than "flat black" is becuase its more a greyish tone which looks more natural soot/dirtlike than flat black

Oh yea i forgot to mention, the center diamond on the chest is hunt club green with a matte clear coat and a dusting of the black primer.

Make sure the yellow is totally dry before misting with black, otherwise it will turn the yellow shades of green!

    hi !
Don't know where you live but in France i couldn't find rustoleum paint. So i went to this adress :
Hunt Club Green Satin Ceramic Paints - 249074 - Hunt Club Green Paint, Hunt Club Green Color, Rust-Oleum Satin Porcelain, Pottery, Bisque, Greenware Ceramic Paint, 39564C - Art-Paints.com
They sell rutoleum paint and overall they have the colors code in HTML or RGB.
So once you have colors codes, you can make square of each color in any software like photoshop and print them.
It give you a idea of the real colors (you could have very litle variations due to printer calibration)
Another solution is to go at car paint resellers. Some of them can make rattlecans with the exact color using thoses you have printed.
    Hope it helps

I found the Krylon Italian Olive and other colors mentioned to be very similar to the Rustolium and they dried much faster.

They are very similar, but the rustoleum one is just about spot on match to the floquill color. The italian olive is more drab/yellowish and less "green", if that makes any sense. But yes you are 100% correct, the krylon dries way faster, but in this game patience rules over a quick finish, trust me lol.
