Looking for critique on my ESB

KriegerSan

New Hunter
I realized I needed to take a step back from trying to join the 501st. So, I am looking for costume critique on my ESB Boba to find out what needs to be done for it to become approved.

The big thing I will be working on in the coming months is the jetpack and knee darts. It was a bit of a rush job and could use a little touch up on the paint. I am also missing the molex connectors on the blaster. In the pictures I realized that the chest armor got knocked out of place and didn't notice this until halfway done with costume removal. My normal spotter is out of town and had to enlist the help of a different friend who has never helped me suit up before.

Take this as CONSTRUCTIVE Criticism PLEASE do not take this as a jab....This is just what I can see looking at it really quickly. No offense to you meant by these comments.....Read on if you can take it with improvement in mind.

You have no gauntlet darts, your whipcord hosing is missing a few pieces...EI the white pices and the dental files, youre missing the button on the right gauntlet for the flashlight.

Yes your knees do look like theyre just a bit of sintra....Id for sure fix that and the color of them is off.... You straps on the knees are white...Id dirty them up a little along with the flight suit.

You have no "thong"

Your shin tools dont look to be detailed...(theyre just silver should have red, black accents)

Cal pad on left gaunt is just silver from what I can see....it should have colors on it.... also I cant see any wires on the left gauntlet off the flame thrower.

The chest diamond looks to be wrong as in it rectangle is too large in the diamond itself....

Details on jetpack....you know about i think? Symbols brown lines...

Your braids are kinda wrong...take a look at the ESB gallery to see what I mean...

Right shoulder color is off....it should be more orange not matching the left shoulder

The damage as far as Paint wise on most everything is off...IE the damage on the helmet is all too large for the helmet...if that makes sense? On the cod piece I think you used ROTJ damage for the ESB armor?

Girth belts color looks off...little dull.

Your suit isnt BAD by any means....its very nice. But these are the things that jump out at me as being incorrect....

Oh I forgot about the Gauntlet darts.I tried printing them awhile back but they're a very hard print as they are so small.

Time to invest in a nice airbrush then. I was planning on getting one soon anyways. The knee pieces are actually made out of aluminum with 3d printed knee darts.

Either way they dont look the way they should.... theres no replacement for a CNC'd piece of aluminum for small parts like the darts

I was looking at bobamaker for new knee pieces and the cod armor. Are there any good suppliers that you would recommend?

Bobamaker will ill take a over year for one piece or an entire suit,RKD redkraytdragon makes really great knee and cod not sure if he's back from his time off though,Fett4real def knows more about who else may be able to help.....

If I can get the knee pieces for cheaper than bobamaker than that will be awesome. I am currently a freelance engineer so money is a big factor when considering costume parts. Also time is not a factor. I know that a fett costumes take a hell of a long time to get screen accurate. I don't think I have seen a single costume that has been perfect from the start. Everybody needs proper critiquing and guidance when getting the perfect costume.

Just to add to what F4R already covered, there's no space between the buckles of your girthbelt and I can't see a sidearm and holster?

Didn't woodman come up with a way to distribute RS Propmasters stuff with no wait times?

Not sure Andy I think those are complete sets of armor,I'm not sure how that process works and how many are actually left from when that started I know from the thread he had a certain amount on hand ready to ship.I only suggested RKD because u can buy in parts from Will.

mate you know boba costume is very difficult! it's need a lot of time and upgrade on upgrade to become really similar of the screenused one! i know it's a work of pain and love so don't give up :)

fett4real gave you great advice, and i can add in my opinion:
- your boots are scratch build? maybe in future you can upgrade with mow boots or similar!
- the flak vest is too long ?
- cod plate paintjob looks different green
- flight suit need to be weathered and dirty ;)
hope that can help you , good luck with your prop ! we are here to help you

I have Bobamaker amor and it is very nice. I did just ask him about a jetpack and that would be about a year wait which is unfortunate. Hopefully RKD starts making his stuff again so that will help you get on the right path quicker. For your metal parts Dakota at Machinecraft replicas has some awesome pieces- I have his darts and they are nice. I have bought a few 3D printed things from Toolguy and Raf on here thru Shapeways and they are great as well. Even better when you switch to the higher end print material.

As far as getting things " right " - I keep my computer right next to me with whatever part I am working on. When I get to a point on the build where I think I am done , I look at the pic and see if it looks exact. Most times I think " eh, it is kinda close" but depending on what your end goal is that usually won't cut it and I just keep going till it is just like the picture. Feedback here comes from people who know EXACTLY how it should look - and while sometimes it can lead to a feeling of discouragement - it is nice someone took the time to help.

You're off to a great start. I noticed a couple fitting things in addition to what others have said. You're pouches should attach to the back of the ammo belt not the girth belt. They should also be closer to the front as seen in this pic.

You're also missing the ties for the bottom of the flightsuit. They're relatively easy to make yourself.

I will actually be 3d printing my next jetpack. My current printer only has a build volume of 200x200x200, so I will be printing it in parts. I am also planning on building a Volcanus max printer which has a build volume of 420x420x420, so I could print the body in one print.
