In a couple of weeks, I'm taking my Boba to his first con. And I'm absolutely terrified he'll get damaged in some way. I know it's to be expected, even during the test fitting my cod cracked when I bent down too many times and this will be two long days surrounded by people, but I'd like to minimize the danger and damage as much has possible.
Currently, I'm most concerned about my scratch built jetpack. I epoxied the ever loving crap out of the thrusters, but given the awkwardness of the positioning, I couldn't use my 'glue' of choice, fiberglass to attach the thrusters to the main body. In an ideal world, I'd use the bungee cord method I've seen here, but I'd have to cut up the pack to gain access to the inside. Also, the thrusters are essentially round metal curtain rail ends with sintra cones epoxied to the bottom with not much surface area for the epoxy to stick to. The only thing I can think to do is add some fiberglass to the inside of the cone, making sure to resin the bottom of the ball and edges of the cone together.
Also, I utilized magnets for the gauntlet closure, and I'm fairly happy with it, but I'm finding a flick of the wrist can open them up. I don't really want to replace the magnets, but I was wondering what kind of closure could aid the magnets to just prevent them from opening with the slightest amount of pressure. I never really understood the velcro idea; velcro requires overlap which my gauntlets don't have.
Finally, any con-going advice in costume? What to do? What to avoid? What to take with me (I have a feeling my pockets are going to be full of superglue, epoxy and batteries)?
