Jet Pack Vent Placement

Hey gang,

I'm working on a WOF Boba Fett jet pack.

I'm at the point where the vent needs to be built. However, I'm not sure how it should sit in the main body... or how deep it should be????

I did a quick diagram using a page from WOF's temps.

Should the vent sit like (A) same angle as the bottom of the jet pack or (B) the vent's top sitting parallel with the top deck?

If someone out there with a jet pack could please let me know how deep the vent should be and how the vent should sit? I'd really appreciate it.

If I made the vent's dept 3/4" deep would that be too shallow or should I make it an 1"?

1" or 25mm I think is about right? at least that's what i'm gonna do? :lol

The vent should be 1" deep.

As for the position, angles or straight... most of the packs that I've seen are like diagram "a". I personally made mine like diagram "b", and I think that it looks really good that way. :)

Hi gang, it's me again.
I finally have some free time, so I've been working on my jet pack.

I need some advice regarding what vent design I should use. I'm shooting for a ROTJ look. I'm not sure if I'm suppose to be using the initial design in WOF templates or follow the Alternative design from "the Art of Star Wars"????

Does anyone have any insight on this matter and could someone please post photos of the different vents?

I think that all the jet pack have the vents like the MoM jet pack. And after they did a repair on the AoSW jet pack. I don't know why but this is what I think. If you look them you will see that the AoSW is like a forex piece glued on and painted.

As everyone said... Style A Here is a shot of the MoM RotJ rocket pack.

And the AoSW/C4 rocket pack

In regard to what rocket pack is more "RotJ accurate" I am not sure that is a fair question. Multiple rocket packs were used in RotJ. Below is a photo of the pack we now call the AoSW/C4 pack... if you look closely, it appears that there is no cover plate on the bottom at all, just an empty hole.

I kind of knew the progress photo question would come up soon. I took a few photos this morning.

Go easy, this is my first attempt at building model parts from scratch. Everything is made from sheets of styrene.

Anyway as I said before, I'm working really slow on this and I have a lot of filling and sanding to do.

I finished my vent and paced it in the body.

Please excuse the JB weld. I've been using it as a filler for small gaps and scratches. I still need to make the vent's grill or not...:) seeing the ROTJ pack only had a hole.

I may make the grill out of aluminium. My plastic prototype seems a bit flimsy.

what are you using for materials? this looks great....

I've been using styrene and Testors plastic cement. I also reinforce all the joints with JB Weld.

Hello fellow members. It's been awhile but I'm finally back at it. I'm setting out to finish this jet pack. It's only taken 2 1/2 years!:rolleyes This jet pack is a scratch build and there's no way it's going to be a total accurate build.

Anyway I'm trying to stay as accurate as I can... where it counts. I have a few small concerns that I hope some of you may be able to shed some light on.

First question: Please keep in mind that I'm doing a ROTJ pack. I've noticed in photos that the piece of the rocket that sits under the top cone has 2 small holes in the side. Is that just a ESB/PP feature or do all versions have that? Should I incorporate that detail and are there 2 holes on either side?

Second question: I'm not sure if this was on the actual movie prop but is there suppose to be an extra disk sitting between the shaft (labeled A) and the part (labeled B)? It shows up in some photos and other movie stills it's not clear.

I hope to post more photos soon. I'm currently working on the thrusters. I'll try to stay in touch.

Well I worked a little on the thrusters this weekend. There's a very weird story behind the spheres. My wife and I bought a house last year and I found them way under the basement steps while cleaning. There they were 2 toy balls and they must of been left there by another owner, because the people we bought the house from didn't have kids. They're the perfect size!

Anyway, I'm posting some progress shots of the thrusters, main body and the rocket (which I've added some detail to). I still have a lot of work to do.

Hey! I did not think of doing the the thruster details (pic# 3) like that when I scratchbuilt mine. I may have to redo mine since I'm in the process of modding my pack. Thanks for the pics and the idea!

That's right Art.
is this the same pack as the "Heilman" photos show?
In those pics, the vents are missing.
I believe they were taken before the scene above was filmed.
