Jet Pack Draft Blueprints

Thank you.

Since I just got a metal lathe I had considered turning the rocket out of plastic, urethane foam or RenShape, but I want to try to keep the weight down as much as possible. Some of the pieces will still need to be machined. The notched base plate for one, I know I don’t have the patience to fold and glue 18 plastic notches in place. I was figuring on using the template as a cutting guide, once the basic piece is turned, the template can be glued down on to the cone and then the cutting would begin. The same goes for the section with the ring of holes, this should hopefully save a lot of layout time.

Has anyone ever tried to make a hollow fiberglass rocket?

I have most of the major JP components flattened out and will post an update in the next couple of days. Also should have the Arena JP flat patterns done soon as well, they will be posted on the Jango page thread. Most of the basic parts are interchangeable, the biggest difference is in the fuel tank covers. But, first I have a couple sets of custom armor templates to get out.

well before you go any further. I printed out your BP's and some things dont line up. #3 is a example. the main(biggest) piece is too small when going round the big circle. I sudgest you redo your messurments

Thank you for the catch, my dyslexia must have kicked in. I have rechecked the dimensions. They should be ok now and I have revised the drawing above.

Not a problem, what size do you need? In my research it looks like the original JP was 14.5" to 15" wide, but in order to fit me the JP needs to be about 17.5” to 18". The key in sizing the JP is the shoulder width. Using a shirt or a suit jacket that fits well and a yard stick, have someone measure the width of your shoulders (sleeve seam to sleeve seam) and then subtract ½ inch and let me know the results.

One thing to remember when trying to size costume parts is that you can't just use height as a guide, for example I'm 5' 11", but my torso dimensions are equal to that of a 6’ 3” person, short leg syndrome. According to the standard anthropomorphic charts, my torso height puts me in 95% range, while my overall height of 5’ 11” is only in the 80% range. Let me tell you it is extremely difficult to nearly impossible to find a set of coveralls that fit, they all end up looking like circus tents. I’m now planning on going the two piece route, since I’ll need two sets anyway for the sleeves and the pouches.

Everyone is different as such there is no such thing as a ‘standard person’. I have done a few sets of custom templates for us hard to fit folks and Jango’s armor is by far the most difficult to fit, as each piece needs to be fitted to match its specific part of the body, not only in height, but in width as well. The important thing to remember is balancing the proportions.

yeah yeah anthropomorphic. that's it.;)

actually the measurement you asked for is 21 inches.
if I pm you my measurements can you tell me if I'm normal?:D

The reason I wanted the grid is to determine what size each piece is.
Basically I was just looking for a grid that's broken down into workable increments.

another thing I noticed when cuting out and puting the pieces together(dont know if you fixed it) is that besides peices not lining up right. the pieces that were put together just fine were actually a great deal smaller than your rocket on the far left of the BP. I think you might have to redo the math a bit with the circumferences

What can I say occupational hazard, the curse of being an engineer.

Here is the link to a diagram of the information that I need to determine if you’re ‘normal’

I’ll see what I can put together for 21 inch wide JP.

That is strange since the dimensions were taken directly off diagram at the left. I will go back and double check. There are a few of the parts shown on the left that still haven't been drawn yet. Mainly the transition pieces and others that are flat disks. Also I have not include any glue surfaces yet so all the parts are butt jointed. Only the major parts have been captured so far. I'm still working on the nose cone as well, as it will be similar to a flat pattern of a globe. One thing you might want to check is that the aspect ratio is maintained when it is sent to the printer. That could cause some distortion.

I'll give the drawings a going over later today and work out any addtional bugs.

mabie you just dubbled the length of the rocket in the pic and took your mesurements from that. if so that might not have given you the correct lenth. mabie you could determine the distance between each fin (top part of rocket is what im talkin) and repeat the distance between the other fins. that should work....

Superb work on those blueprints... I am also in the process of starting a jet pack and I have noticed a couple of differences between my exhaust port drawings and yours:

1. On all the shots I have the area indicated on my diagram is rounded and not square as yours is.

2. The side lengths on mine are shorter than yours.

Maybe I don't have the same shots as you, I think most of mine are from AoSW. Could you show a picture of the exhaust port that you used for reference as all mine must be different?

I've attached my template, hope it makes sense.

bobamaker,

Something is wrong with your link.

I have been using these pictures from the Reference CD - Boba_Fett_001.jpg Boba_Fett_377.jpg, Boba_Fett_736.jpg, and Boba_Fett_766.jpg. Also the picture propsculptor posted above. And this picture AoSW_2002-07-10_65.

Here is a cropped view of the vent from one of the above pics.

BobaFettSlave_1,

I’m not sure what problem you are encountering. Can you post a picture? I have updated the rocket flat pattern posted above and I have added additional parts. I cut out the major pieces and started gluing them together, it will definitely be easier in plastic, paper is a pain I don’t know how the card model guys do such fantastic work. So far everything is fitting together pretty good.

I just need to say that these blueprints are the most exciting thing I've seen regarding the jet pack in a long long time. I tip my helmet to you wizardofflight and your superior drafting skills. Thanks for taking the time to create these and sharing them with us. I can't wait to see the packs created from these blueprints.

Bobamaker,

You are absolutely correct, the vent on the blueprints posted above was a earlier version, that I thought was fixed. Early on in the process I mistakenly used a photo of a fan built JP as a reference. I have since corrected my working version of the drawings, but apparently I used the wrong version when I made the post.

Thank you for catching that I usually put a big X over obsolete stuff. I don’t like to delete anything you never now when you might need it again, but it can come back to bite you.

Here are the 2 versions that I have, obviously the top one is the correct version the bottom one is from the fan built JP. I have to say though the fan built JP looked really good.

I’ll should be able to update the drawing posted above this weekend.

I encourage everyone to critique these drawings and post anything you find that looks wrong or out of place and if you can point me at the proper reference all the better.

Rednave,

Thank you, it is my hope that folks will find these plans useful. Because there is such a variety of people out there I’m planning on be putting together a series of different size templates for the JP, in one inch increments starting from 15 and going up to 21 inches wide. I am also going to put together a chart so folks can pick the correct size JP based on their shoulder width. This should cover the majority of bounty hunters out there, but if anyone needs some other size I will be more than happy to work up a custom set.

Hey Wizard,
Those links are now now longer working, can you repost them or anyone that has his original blueprints please repost. I'd like to give this a shot.

Thanks!

These were just the draft drawings. The final version were posted over in this thread and they are still on line:

If you have any problem let me know and I'll can e-mail them to you.

Alan

Hey thanks for that heads up!
I spent hours last night searching and reading every thread that popped up in regards to "blueprints" and never got this one.

Thanks again! (y)

Hey! *I'm* one of the "card modeler" guys! Myself and KahunaFett! I'm going to start on the pack body possibly this weekend! I've been working on others things in the meantime. It's all coming together nicely! I'd say I'm about 52% done at this point, maybe more, but I have a lot of pieces that need assembly to be more complete.
