I Wanna Be Fett

I really want to be Fett for Halloween this year. I hear that it is recommended to build your costume. My question is how hard is it to build one? How much money? Is it worth it just to buy a costume (like the ones i see on ebay that are over $700) or should i just build it? How good is the quality on the ones on ebay and such? I have already chosen the ESB version. What steps should i start making. I need some help here please. For Mandalore!

If it's a one time dressing up for all Hallows eve then I guess $700 might put something pretty cool together. I don't know what costume you are referring to on ebay however. Most members here are putting together highly detailed costumes or displays to be as close to screen used costume and props as can be. Most are embroiled in long term projects and are spending thousands and thousands. Your question is pretty broad so it's impossible to give more information. Why not look at the "New to TDH? Read this about how much you will spend!" sticky that is second from top in the Sarlacc pit section and spending a bit of time browsing through the various threads in the different sections.

Well, you have come to the right place for sure to start your journey. Now then as for your questions Ebay is very shady, you dont get anything you are really gonna want to keep. IMHO building it yourself is going to give you the best Fett for the $$. You can get hand me downs from the cargo hold here for decent prices. Depending on your budget your going to have to make decisions on what you want to do as far as parts go. Im building an ESB Fett now after building a ROTJ before. I have spent thousands on Fett parts learning from my mistakes in the past, seeing new things Id rather have, so in a short time you have to figure out what you want to do as far as armor, weapon etc...if i was you Id look around the cargo hold for decent stuff, try and look at others suits and what they have done, figure out what you can make do with for a halloween costume. And how accurate you want it to be. You may want the helmet to be really nice average or just a of the shelf helmet money will dictate what you get more then likely and time. Good luck and welcome to TDH.

The costume i referred to was the SUPREME edition. I am looking for something that looks a lot like the one from the movie. I just need it to be good enough to fool majority of people. I dont need all the exact details that can fool most mandalorians. I just want a convincing one that will get attention. I want this for Halloween but even if i dont make the deadline i will still keep at it. This costume will be more worn several times for several different occasion....halloween will just be one of them.

PERFECT example of what is WRONG with the supreme suit...If you are comfortable with painting and such you can make something better for the same price...I would contact asok for a helmet to paint yourself, find something to use for a flightsuit and vest or find one on the cargo hold to use. Use some chuck taylors and mod them as boots, maybe buy some used boots from a member...make armor from trash can...maybe find used gauntlets from a member, or buy new armor from a vendor...theres options just depends on you and ur willingness to research here a bit.

I am realizing now this project is gonna take a lot of time and money so i will probably not make it for Halloween but I dont care. Im gonna do this in pieces. I want to start off with the jump suit and work my way to plates. The helmet and blaster will probably be final. My only concern is the painting. I am not artist by no means. Is it really difficult to the painting so that its not cheesy or poorly done? I dont mind spending a couple thousand dollars for a convincing costume (i plan on keeping this costume forever.)

There are plenty of build threads on here for helmets and armor. Search around and you'll find them, plus we have some awesome guys on here that have done stencils for helmets and armor. I've seen some good costumes on here that were done with spray paint cans. All you need to do is take your time and not rush. (y)

I think avoidance of the Rubies is a good call. In my opinion their publicity and marketing shots grossly misrepresent the product that is actually being sold. When I look at the pictures in the thread I posted the link to I'm mortified. That painting around the dent is especially amusing.

you don't have to be an artist to do a good job on the paint. You can learn as you go, and one thing to remember is............it is just paint. If you mess up you can sand it and do it again. I really think you will be much happier in the long run with this route.

And Welcome to TDH.

Avoid the Rubies...I started off like you, looking for a halloween costume. My wife bought me the rubies. This was before I had ever heard of TDH. I really only had the intention of wearing it once or twice but the attention even that cruddy suit got had me hooked. Since then I have repainted the helmet, and soon to be replacing it with an ASOK cold cast. I have gone thru 3 sets of armor from hand made trash can (templates found here) to most recently a set of Boba Maker, which I painted myself. I could go thru part by part and tell you everything I've replaced, but it would be easier for me to tell you what I kept....As of right now, I have kept the jetpack and helmet. Both I've repainted, and I am currently looking to replace both. The helmet really is a nice mold, but it is a cruddy paint job, and it is a bit flimsy compared to what I've seen of the other helmets out there. The jetpack looks good, but is a bit too large. I wish I had found this forum before I got into this hobby, I am sooooo happy I have found it now. Take your time, and you will end up very happy with your finished product. As for painting, I suggest getting a plastic wall mart trash can, using the WOF templates found here, and practicing, it worked for me. Good Luck Future Fett!
