I am starting out

New Hunter
Newbie here starting an ESB Fett.
Anyone want to share any woes of what I shouldn't do? Or ways NOT to go about things?
Seeing that I am getting my helmet later this week I think I am getting too caught up in the project as a whole and not things as individual sections.
Any way to go about "slowing" my mind from racing or what the order is the best to go about things?
I was thinking of working on the ammo pouches as well but not sure if I should focus on one thing first.
I have no real time frame when I want to get this completed by but I would like to wear it before I am dead.
Thanks

Welcome ! Better to be safe than sorry on spending the amount you're going to. I would research what you're going for before you buy it. You will save money doing it in sections and building a fett will usually take a decent amount of time for most people ( ill be done in about 11 months for example ). I know its hard to wait I'm in the same situation as you. lol feels like a little kid waiting for that one Christmas gift you've been wanting all year. I would just research what you're going to buy and make sure everything will fit right and more important try your best to figure out how it would look like on you. There aren't a ton of options so it's not too hard on who to pick to buy things from and these forums have a ton of information to help you make your decision. Hope that covers a little for ya, Good luck!

I think two very important issues, are your own skill level when it comes to prop building/painting/sewing, and the amount of money you want to spend. Researc, and if you can't find the answer, ASK!!! The guys here have helped me immeasurably and, in a few cases, could have saved me some money had I asked the questions I should've. Good luck! Take your time and enjoy the process.

I agree with Terryfett, if you're confident in your ability in either, painting, sewing, or hardware stuff like armor and methods of attachment, do it where you think it will still be good so you can save some money to get the stuff you're not so confident in making. But do the research and get HIGH quality items in the first go (I know some stuff can get really pricey but it will actually save you money in the long run to get the best first so as to avoid upgrading later.)

Example; I can't sew or make armor BUT I can paint pretty well enough where I can make something look like metal or weathered in a believable enough way to where I don't need someone to paint it for me. So I save for really nice items I know I can't make and then tweak them or paint them or attach them in ways I know how so I can get the most out of my Fett without having to scrape the bottom of my wallet for all the cash!

Also, check out the Cargo Hold! Some times bounty hunters move on to other projects and sell their old gear for pretty decent prices. You just have to be quick with the mouse button :)

Hope this helps; and welcome to TDH!

From what I've read, learnt, spent and trooped as a sandtrooper here in Australia is:

Patience - throwing money at the project(s) is only good until you realise that same money could have been better spent

Maintain your Focus - no good starting a ESB Fett only to get half way through and then realise you want to go a diffferent version

Try your hand at some of the construction - my armour is due to start in April 2013, so I'm learning how to sew and do my flight suit and assorted soft components myself. Besides, you will feel more 'connected' to your kit (other than via financial tendrils ).

Linked: Same as you I´m just starting my ESB project. I had PM a lot o f people and like a BIG family, everyone is whiling to share their knowledge and add their 2 cents to the new born like us. I think both paths, either you decide to venture on building it yourself, or the process of buying the best choices for you, would be equally rewarded at the end. Best of wishes and good luck.

To all the pioneers out here, THANX! Its an honor and a pleasure to read your posts.

I was on this site flip flopping what I was going to do and decided that this is what I want to do.
I have been doing weeks of research and trying to take things slow. I am in a builders group and that has helped me a lot. I start my armor next month. Got the helmet yesterday and have a seamstress lined up for the suit. It will take forever but I am willing to do that for quality.
A big thing in this thread is people saying "saving money"
What part was it you people lost your money over or thought you could have saved on in the long run?

Personally, apart from the whole Rubies debacle, I think I've done nothing but SPENT money...I couldve saved money, if I had held out, in some cases, and waited to buy what I knew I would eventually want. Namely a better set of armor, gauntlets, boots, ammo belt, (insert any fett part here), It worked out for me in that I gained invaluable costuming experience along the way, be it painting technique, prop building, or even sewing. Be prepared to never be satisfied completely, and to drop a bunch of cash. But it is very fullfilling and worthwhile.
