Holiday Special Fett progress

TB1184

Active Hunter
First up, the repainted codpiece armor. since it was the only gray part I've painted at the time, I decided to start over on it so it would match up with the two-layered mustard technique of the chest armor. Plus the gray was too light, so I used gray primer as the top layer, and it worked out quite well.

The right shoulder bell is done, but at the time I was doing the second layer of mustard, I forgot to do the left shoulder bell! Arg! So I'm having to repaint the left one at the moment, and that will come later...

Collar armor. Nuff said. Since the HS Fett has round knobs instead of computer key knobs, I'll be looking for some. Anyone know of any plain cylindrical thumb screws or anything like that that would work? I really don't want to use the computer keys since that's not what was seen in the cartoon.

Full shot. You can see the left shoulder bell here, with it's ONE layer of battle damage... *grumble grumble*

By the way, none of this stuff is weathered yet. Damaged, yes. But not weathered. :p

What's this... "Holiday Special" you speak of? ;););)

Nice work, I've always wanted to see this thing built. I hope you make it worthy of the 501st! I doubt it will be excepted though... the Holiday Special might be an exception when it comes to Canon... friend. ;)

Well rest assured I'll be fighting to get this thing accepted if there is any fuss over it. I'll spell out their charter to them letter by letter if I have to. However, my GML is a good guy, and since *technically* the HS Fett fits in the charter there should be no problem. Plus HS Fett gots ta represent in the 501. But please don't let this turn into a discussion about interpreting the charter or any long-winded discussions like that. I just want to show off the progress.

EDIT: Oh...Forgot. Friend.

:) I was only kidding though. I hope to see this in the legion soon though! Do you have enough reference pics? I have the HS, I could screen shot some for ya.

Yeah I have plenty. I also have the cartoon on my hard drive, so I can take any pics I need at will. However, the compression on the video makes it hard to determine the details on his electro prod. Perhaps could you get me a nice clear shot of the side detail? I kind of have an idea of it, and I plan on winging it anyways, but a clear shot of the electro prod's body would be most appreciated.

EDIT: Dang! Again! ... Friend.

I've never seen anyone do this!!

:cheers

great plan, and you're working it out good aswell!!

This is great. I have never seen a 'holiday special' Fett before.

As far as i am concerned it is cannon. Go for it :)

btw the armour is looking freakin brilliant (y)

Yeah, actually...some guitar knobs would be ideal for the shoulder buttons.

Just curious...where are you getting the weathering pattern for this? In the HS, his armor looked pristine.
I'm also curious about the gauntlets. And boots...what're you using for boots?

*EDIT* Holy flying crap-monkeys!!! Torso Boy! I haven't seen you since Kazlaaz!!! It's Chumpgoalie, man!!!

What kind of gauntlets will you buy for this version?

I spoke with Ruffkintoys about his gauntlets. I'll be getting a set without the flamethrower attachement.

Hmm, the top part of the knobs look perfect, but how would I attach them to a screw or something? It looks like they mate up with a grooved/slotted rod, rather than being threaded to mate up with a screw. I *could* get these and glue them to the collar armor for cosmetic look, and then just velcro the collar to the backplate, but I don't know how well that would hold up, and I want this to work like a normal Fett suit. If I got these, any recommendations as to how to go about attaching these to some kind of screw?

The Holiday Special was in the "early days" of cartoons (considering what we have now...), so whether it was a lack of skill, or perhaps a budget issue, but whatever the reason was, it was just rather simple coloring in the cartoon. Not "realistic" by any sense. My goal is to bring about a realistic version of the Boba Fett as seen in the HS, as if that were the version seen in the movies. Plus, and this is pure coincedence, the 501st charter ratification states that a costume must be movie-quality -- so no Cartoon ARC Troopers, they must be as if from the movies, I'm using the same philosophy on this suit. Anyways, my weathering is loosely based on several images from the Boba Fett reference CD, and mainly the pre-pro suit images from it.

Man it took me a minute to remember what you were talking about. Kazlaaz, what? OH! That goalie forum! Sweet dude! ...friend.

Ive never seen HS. Are there ref pics/screen shots? What version bucket is in HS?

Here you go:

Version of the helmet? It's a... it's... blue. :D There are several variations on the color throughout the cartoon, and I'll be picking a version with the darker blue cheeks:

There is a few seconds where the cheeks ARE normally-shaped, so I'll just be painting a normal Boba Fett helmet to match up with the HS. However, I'll be looking for an extra "pip" or whatever it's called to go on the left cheek, since the helmet is seen with two of them in some shots.

They mate up with the shaft of a potentiometer, actually. But I've had good luck with putting a little bit of epoxy in the mounting hole and pressing either a machine screw or a wooden dowel in there. I have a "placeholder" knob glued to a machine screw on my bass, and it's held up for about four years of relentless gig abuse.

I haven't been on Kazlaaz for awhile...had to stop playing hockey altogether about a year ago. :facepalm

Oh cool. I have never seen the Holiday Special. Your battle damage does not appear accurate. j/k:lol: Awesome job, can't wait to see the bucket
