    Help a NOOB!

Hi everyone im new here and was wondering, would the licensed Boba Fett costume (follow link please, Mens Collectors Supreme Edition Boba Fett Costume | Mens Star Wars Halloween Costumes ) be accepted by the 501st, as it seems to be the cheapest option to me. i always loved Boba Fett as a child, and only recently become aware of this website, and the 501st Legion and would really love to be part of it! The only catch for me is the cost, my wife and two young boys to consider(they both love Star Wars BTW).

I have considered building, but im not very handy and i get a sense it would take a very long time, and at a very high cost, so i was hoping that the licensed costume would be passable, and i could add on some of the finer details as im able.
i would really love to hear from you all, and advise this poor noob in the right direction!

Sorry to say, but there is absolutely no way that would ever be 501st approved- COULD be approved if heavily modified- i'm not in the 501st, and neither am I a good costumer. But I've read many threads regarding this costume BEWARE of it, it looks nothing like as shown

Honestly there isnt a single part of that costume that is 501st approvable. The parts are cheaply made, and Ive seen better stuff made with cardboard, plastic and other stuff here by members. If its not a rush to complete you can make a costume with parts from members here used, or new even for slightly more than that...there are budget friendly parts and parts that dont have a budget in mind. There are places you can skimp and get away with it and others like the helmet you just shouldnt. Theres a thread explaining all of this in great detail sticky'd welcome to TDH. My first ROTJ fett I tried skimping and ended up spending an extra $1000 more than I would have spent not buying things 2 times. So take it slow, read learn, and search...if you cant find an answer ask about it. But search using the function first. Its a huge amount of info the site has to offer. A great tool...lots of time has gone into all the information the guys have learned over the years.

Wow! thanks guys! yeah it does seem a bit to good to be true! iI just had a look at Bobamaker's website.... to buy all the parts unpainted, will cost me nearly $2000... This is gonna take a lot of research!

Cheap, fast, accurate. If you want it done cheaply, and accurately, it won't be fast. Fast and accurate won't be cheap. Fast and cheap won't be accurate (Rubies). It's not uncommon to have $3k+ into a Fett. Collecting pieces over time helps spread out the cost.

Good advice, i guess purchasing a rubies even for a starter to modify would be a waste of time also?
i guess the hard thing is.... realising its going to take such a long time to complete........ and how long the road to the 501st. And having no experience in building costumes and painting armour, am i going to be able to do a credible job? its tough hey!!
i guess its easy to look at all the amazing work soo many people on here have done and not see the hours and money they invest in it....
i know its a ridicules question but, are these normal thoughts that most of you have had before getting started? i really am in love with the goal, and am now accepting the road ahead. im concerned that i might not have the skills to achieve what i want.
it would be nice to read some stories of how you all got started and how you felt about it, what piece got you motivated to get going? im wondering what everybody starts with? im guessing its the helmet!?

Yeah 501st is about as hard core as you can get for a Boba Fett costume. I've been buying pieces bit by bit. Don't set deadlines on your project either (you'll probably be spending a lot of money so make it count!), Fettpride and Bobamaker seem to be popular suppliers of Boba Fett parts. I got a jet pack from Man of War studios (not cheap at all but good materials and looks epic!). A personal favorite vendor (for soft parts, haven't bought any of his armor yet) of mine is swprops. You can find his stuff on ebay. I got a flak vest from him. stitching is accurate, he tailors to your size, does ESB or ROTJ style (unless specified otherwise), AND machine washable (that saves money down the long run I guess). I'm waiting on some ankle spats from him too. Can't wait!

PS. welcome to TDH! Hope to see you around in the future!

If you don't think you have the skills, you can always commission someone to do the work for you. Though being in Oz that will probably be harder to coordinate and more expensive than it us for us stateside. With the build threads and tutorials on TDH, you can do the paint work yourself. Just take your time. If you want a costume you can do quickly, put together an Imperial Crewman or something. The road to Fett can be a long one, but it's worth it. Best costume out there IMHO next to Vader. Your budget may dictate what you buy and when, but don't let being nervous about your painting or assembly skills hold you back. You won't know how capable you are until you try.

http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/f25/t...mor-pics-6290/ I'm new too, but this seems to be a great idea for a cheap, good looking costume. Thin k i'm gonna give it a whirl.

thanks to all of you guys for commenting, WTFett thanks for your encouragement, you have finally convinced me to get started with it....
i think i will start with the helmet, im probably going with bobamaker on that. im gonna definitely fit the helmet out with cooling fans padding and a servo for the RF unit. so i will definitely take my time with it.
Really looking forward to working with u guys, and keeping you all updated! im addicted to this site already!! what an awesome little community you have here! thanks so much for everything so far!

    Re: Help a NOOB!

    Hey matey,
There are many aussie fetts on this board, so look them up, always happy to help and as has been said, some things are simply not available to us downunder so we have found alternatives. Anything imported is going to cost, but keep an eye on the cargo hold for the best bits on sale and avoid ebay, very little good comes of it. If you are looking at 501st membership get over to the BHG, link from the 501st main board.
My budget, buying good quality gear was $3k, so far I have spent just over half that in 18 months and I am nearly finished, all thanks to sellers here. As far as skills go, learn by doing, I have repainted my armour 3 times and helmet twice, it's all a learning curve but tutorials are here, as is great advice and if you get stuck, someone will always help you, just ask, the wealth of knowledge here will get you out of most binds.
Good luck, look forward to seeing your build
