    Apr 1, 2014, 1:16 PM - Help identifying a problem with chest display #1

    Hey guys,

I have the chest display pictured here and it is awesome except for the high pitched squeeling noise when it is on. Does anyone know how to fix this or even who the maker is so I can ask them? Thanks in advance,

What you have there is an el (electroluminescent) panel. The squeal you hear is from the inverter that drives it. They all produce that sound and I have never heard of a way of making them quieter except for wrapping it up in something to insulate the sound.

Jango Fett, Boba Fett, Whining Fett. That stinks man....no electrical engineer here, but googling brings up some engineering examples. None look very good though....needs something added to it in a manner that would draw that current away from the components that produce the noise. Seems like that would affect the lighting also with the current draw?

I've never messed with one of those before, so I don't know how much help I would be. I do know the noise your talking about, I have an old timex indiglo alarm clock that does it when you hit the night light button. From the reading I did on it, it seems that you are kind of stuck because of the need of the panel to bump up the power to light it, which is where the noise is coming from.
It does look nice and simple though, too bad it's loud.
