Help with flack vest material needed

Hello all, I am currently working on a Boba and Custom (basically using costume parts I no longer want to use on my Boba). I was gonna double up my flight suit and vest for both costumes and have been working towards a trooping event in April for my Mandalorian Super commando to attened, however through no fault of my own or the suit/vest supplier it is not gonna be here in time for clearance or to use. So I now have to source acceptable alternatives, without breaking into my Boba fund if possible. I think I have got a suit sorted out which will work out pretty well, so that leaves the vest. As I type this I am thinking scratch built and have printed the tutorial from here by Darth Mule, I have a seemstress on standby (my old mum) but have no idea what the material is that is used, it looks quilted or lined, and what is twill or drill, totally clueless all help will be greatly appreciated here guys!

    Hey,

The material used is tackle twill. Here is a link http://www.websterfabric.com/products/polyPro.html
After much research here on TDH, I discovered this from a deep search into the recesses of the TDH forum. This is THE place found to have the closest to accurate as possible. The chosen color is "greyish". You will want UNCOATED poly-twill. It can be purchased with a 5 yard minimum and it is about $6 USD per yard. It is best to call them for info.

If there is anything else I can do to help, just LMK.

I am not taking credit for finding this supplier, I found it by using the search function and using the knowledge of the great folks here :thumbup

Just went on the site for the tackle twill. Which color is used. The only one I see listed is silver grey. Is that the right color?

How many yards would it take to make a flak vest with attached neck seal?

    Ladysewforus,

PM sent. Tried calling Websterfabric and was given a story about the uncoated material being unavailable unless you bought a bolt.

I purchased 10 yards myself in November last year. Not sure why they told you that, unless they changed policy. As you said in your pm, you are going to try Sue again in the morning, let me know what you come up with. I am curious. I thought I would be able to purchase in relatively small amounts again. I almost want to make another purchase to see if I can. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with.

    Cheers!

This is very strange. If you look at their website it clearly states 5 yard minimum for uncoated. When you talk to Sue, she will probably be able to help you. Here is a link....http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/newre...ote=1&p=325928

On this page it clearly states......

    "Sizing Information
    Width:
    50"
HPO: minimum order 5 yards with 5 yard increments
PSA: available in 25 yard rolls only
Plain (no coating):minimum order 5 yards with 5 yard increments"

    HPO is Hot Press On
    PSA is Pressure Sensitive Application
Plain is uncoated, the kind we use for vests and neck seals.

If I can help at all, please pm me.

    Cheers
    Debbi

Re: Help with flack vest material needed

Talked to Sue today and she tells me the Minumum now is 25yards at 6.50 per yard for that particular fabric. If anyone was interested in getting a group order I'd be in for 3-5 yards. Anyone else interested in doing this? 8)
