Hello all, need some direction!

Hey all, I'm a huge Star Wars Enthusiast, have been since 77 XD Which thankfully my wife understands. I'm up here in Eastern Canada and in my particular province things like Trooping and conventions don't exist. I have in the past created a few costumes myself out of my own interest, namely a Tusken Raider, and Dark Jedi costume. Though it's been a while since I made anything and I want to take on something more meaty and intense. Naturally Fett's Mandalorian armor came to the top of the list.

I've been looking through alot of different things here over the last few days, ants helmet and Raf's which were amazing (wish I could have seen Ants final product) plus a horde of links and tips, some that don't exist anymore and so on...and well I'm not sure which information I should be following and which information I should casually file away. So could anyone be kind enough to direct me? I'm a little lost on the forums! I am thinking of attempting a cardboard helmet, and possible tin sheet or rolled aluminum armor pieces...Sintra isn't carried anywhere in this city it seems (though if I can finally nab some I will).

Hey welcome to the forums... I my self just started my own scratchbuilt boba fett. I made my helmet out of cardboard using WOF's (Wizard of Flight's) Helmet templates and they worked like a dream, same story with his jetpack and gauntlet templates. He is the man. I followed antman's tutorial the best i could and am happy with my result. There are a ton of veteran fett builders on this site that can answer any question!!! Welcome again.

Thanks for the welcome my friend I really liked Antmans and Ral's (or Raf's?) cardboard helmet deals so I think I'll be using them as well, I've seen the term WOF pop up concerning templates quite a bit and didn't know what that stood for so thanks! I assume those templates are stickied? plus armor temps as well? Thanks again for the welcome!

HI There, yes its all stickied, there are heaps of tutorials here and lots of help, WOF templates are great and there are sizes for all types of Mandalorians.

I know what its like not being able to get material for a build, Being from little NZ, I find it hard to source the products that are generally available in the US. But a lot of hunting, perseverance and the ability to make do have gotten me by. Not to mention this forum is a great place to source ideas, know-how, advise and the odd deal form the cargo hold...

I found those links shortly after My son was finally asleep so I had more attention on what I was doing rather than what he was doing hehe. I think I'll start off with the armot and soft portions first, the Helmet seems a huge project in itself so I think I'll do that after I feel my way around a bit I think tomorrow I'll start in and see what I can start getting together. Just out of curiosity when it comes to painting I was planning on the following....

Spray coat of primer
Spray coat of base green (olive)
Using a Mud Wash around the edges etc to look 'used'
Using Games Workshop paints for details like scratches blast marks etc.
Light spray of matte finish

I'm also big into miniature painting and get really really good scarring detail with that kind of procedure. Though I never painted something large scale before, but the GW paints have proven very durable to me and can look great, just wondering if that sounds viable or would I be off base?

I'm getting ready to take the plunge too Strabo. Maybe we can form a support group for noobs.

I too have a very fond love for GW's games and paints but their colors just don't really match for accuracies' sake. Now if you just want to use what you have on hand and don't mind your colors not being accurate then go ahead and use what you feel comfortable with. There are some really good WIP or tutorial threads that will help explain the process.
Which version of Boba are you going to undertake?

Well the only ones I would be using are the mud wash and boltgun metal for scratches and wear. I wouldn't use their green, I would want that to be accurate so that would be something else. Same with all the rest, I'm just real comfortable with making battle damage with GW's stuff I think I may go ESB era....along with many my favorite of them I am a bit of a stickler about accuracy though, things will bug me immensely if they are off, which often makes me my own worst enemy.

Gotta love the ESB Fett.

I see you're into something big and this is a good thing. All you need for scratch build is 'sticky' in the Helmet, Armor and Costume sections and there are lots of helpful threads to show you all the steps needed to achieve your goals.
If you want your Boba Fett suit for trooping, use 2mm cardboard for the helmet then fiberglass it inside to give strenght. For the armor you can use 3mm trash cans, just search for 'trash can armor', and you'll find some great build threads.

Hey Rafal, yep I found those stickies so I plan to make ample use of them I think I may try the trash can armor as a first go as well like you suggest. It would be a shame to use something more expensive straight off and make a mess of it afterall There's a army navy surplus store just down the street from here as well so I can likely nab alot of the soft parts from there.
