    Oct 10, 2004, 8:10 PM - A good base Boba boot!! UPDATE #1

    Hi all,

I cant afford the Caboots Boba boots, nor the awesome Jango Wes versions, so I was forced to make my own.

I searched and searched eBay for weeks looking for the perfect base boot, well I couldnt find the perfect one, but I found a really good one made by ALDO.

They put me back under $20.00 shipped.

Heres a pic (from the eBay seller's auction):

I painted the sole white with Krylon fusion satin white.

I then custom dyed white duck canvas. The first color I used was RIT Pearl Gray (for the majority of the boot).

I then cut out a small piece and dyed that piece (which was already dyed gray) with a little black dye, thus getting them a nice charcoal for the center stripe.

I cut the fabric as per Bradleyfett's pattern, which can be located here:
    http://www.con-centric.com/fett/images/bootpattern.jpg

Once I cut the fabric, I glued the canvas on the boots with Shoe Goo. (btw Shoe Goo stinks and will make you sick, use it really cautiously...)

I used TK409s suggestion for the black piping and 3/4" aluminum bar for the toe plate. Toe spikes are in the works....

Here is the second boot, with an inside look at the construction:

    Higher rez pics are here:

    Enjoy!!!

Great work! That is an excellent base and the colors look really good. How much would you say the total price was after adding on the price of dye, piping, etc?

NICE NICE job ! okay, here is my question...what did you do the bottom of the boot, it was once black rubber and now its white ribbed ...it almost looks totally different...did you just paint it ?

Just painted it with Krylon Fusion Satin White, nothing else. I guess the tread stands out more once it was painted white?

Sweet looking job, really! Those turned out awesome.

Toe spikes...hmmm. Here's my secret. I turned mine out of metal, and you don't have to have a lathe to do it. You can do it in a drill press.

I bought aluminum rod at HD or Lowes, 3/8" I think. It was the biggest piece I could fit into the chuck on my drill press.
    - Cut your piece about 2.5" long (they have to be longer so you can get them in the chuck and have room to lathe them down)
    - I have 2 files I use. One is very rough, and one has fine teeth. Start with the rough one, remove as much material as you like and shape it the way you want.
    - Use the finer file to smooth it all up.
    - While it is still in the chuck, spin it up and use some steel wool to make it shine.
    - I used JB Weld to attach mine to the toe plate, but if you have a tap, you can thread it and use bolts through it.
