I wish I could help more, but like the thread shows, I spray painted mine. Good luck with your dyeing process.

Well, I finally took the plunge and dyed my girth tonight.

This is it after 45 minutes of dyeing and wringing.

You can't tell here , but it is more of a reddish brown. I will add more pics as it dries. I am very happy with the way it turned out! :D

Jedi-Bob...

Ok, that looks great! Yours came out lighter than mine which is much better for you. Now, what are you going to do next?

Well, I have 12 quart pot and a box of cocoa brown RIT and a bottle of wine RIT. I am just a little nervous of the recipe to make a good ROTJ girth.

Do I even need the wine? I don't want it too brown.

Bob,

It looks like it turned out great!!! Do you have any more pics of what it looks like dried? And did it shrink on you?

Great job on it.

It is taking a LONG time to dry. I am actually a little nervous because when I was severly wringing it out (my hands still hurt!) it looked more reddish. It is still more brown right now, BUT still damp. You think it will lighten as it dries??? I will post more pics tomorrow.

Thanks!!!

Don`t sweat it until its dry. I think you`ll be fine. Let us know when its completely dry.

I think you're taking it desperately. Just take a deep breath about 5 times, and follow this advise:

Let it dry as much time as necessary (probably 2 days or so, depends on the weather in your area). As soon as it's really dry, specially if you let it dry outside. Once it's dry, continue with it.

(I haven't done anything about the girths, cause I bougt one from Malcfett, but want to upgrade sometime soon.)

This is the latest shot -

See what I meant. This pic makes it look even darker than it really is. In the full light you can see more red. What can I do to lighten it?

Leave it soaking in water?
Leave it out in the sun?

Any advice would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks :D

Really good job in the girth, Bob! I like it. Now, I don't know what to answer you about what to do next. Someone should answer you soon.

I would say soak it in some warm water and watch it carefully. Wring it out and see where you have to go from there. But someone else may have a better answer.....

RIT Dye works great. Just use the acetone first.

Jodo, I soaked it for a half hour and did lose some dye. It is a little better, but may need some more removed.

Thanks

you might be able to shrink it by putting it in boiling water and letting it air dry. i'm not sure how much it would work, or u could make ur own.
