Girth or Rope Belt Information

I may have thrown out my paperwork. I'll have to look for it.

I just got a new 36" natural mohair girth the other day from Statline tack and it was entirly tooooo short. :( It measured 32" loose and 36" pulled tight, but was still way toooo short. I ended up sending the girth back Mon. and reorderd a 41", which was what my old one was and looked better after I started really looking at it size wise when compared to the MoM exhibit pics.

Sooooooo needless to say, even if the 34" maroon girth was made without the "D" rings, it would have tooo short anyway and I would still be SOL because I measured it incorrectly any way.

I have it work hanging in the horse stall trying to sell it now anyway.

That's exactly what happened to me, see my post above.

Anyways, I could still deal with it, all I need to do is to LOOSE WEIGHT! :D

And the reply from Buytack.com:

Hi,

We are sorry that our policies have caused you distress. The fact that Montana Cincha items are custom made and take 10 - 14 days has always been on the site, but we have added that fact and that Custom items are not returnable to the girth page due to the problems you have mentioned.

We have always shown the Mohair Blend to have the color only on the crossbars, but added the Poly Blend this last few months to accommodate those who wanted full color girths.

Our Posted Return Policy (link is at the Main Menu page) has always stated the Custom items are not returnable and any person who orders a custom item of any kind from shoes to coats to chaps and girths should expect that such an item is not returnable.

The only thing we can offer you and your group at this point is to remake the girths at shipping plus $15.00 to cover our some of our basic costs. The unwanted girths can be disposed of at the customer's discretion. We do not need them back here and that will save the customers the cost of returning them. We can ship by Priority Mail for $4.25 for any single girth order.

This will be a one time offer and extend through November 15th. If you can find Hector Diaz (he moved and his girth could not be forwarded) please let him know that we need him to contact us with a new shipping address. We do not keep a list of those that wanted to return the girths, so if you could spread the word to those who complained to you, it would be appreciated.

I hope that this will work for you and your group. We have always tried to understand our customer's needs and work to keep them satisfied. It is difficult when dealing with those using the products as they are intended:eek:); but even more difficult when we do not understand the use the customer has for the product.

Again, please accept our apologies for any embarrassment that these misunderstandings have caused you. I will review your sales receipt and shipping label to verify if your order was sent UPS 3 Day Select. If it was, then we can only refund any difference between the actual cost and the amount you were charged.

So, if any of you would like to re-order, there's the info. Be SPECIFIC to what you want when you order (best to call, I guess). Hector Diaz, if you're on this board, send them your new address!

Whoever has received a girth that is correct in every way possible for ESB, can you please tell me everything I need to specify when ordering? EVERYTHING!

Including the size I should be ordering based on the wearer's waist size and to accomodate the jumpsuit and armor leaving about 4 inches of a gap between the buckles for straps.

I want to get it right first time plus with me being in the UK it adds extra hassle with time and cost.

Thanks

Cheers for the link. I had a look but it only seems to have white as an option. Have they dropped the other colors?

Anyhoo, I looked at the ESB reference photos on the BF CD and the girth looks more maroon than brown for ESB too.

Another thing I'm not sure about is the size that should be ordered (from buckle to buckle). How much should you take off from the wearer's waist size to accomodate 5" or so of straps, plus the front and back cod/kidney armor? I've been given quite conflicting info from several people making it impossible to decide.

If you're doing the standard ESB girth, and don't feel like dying it, you can get a brown mohair 14-strand girth from http://www.statelinetack.com.

thanks for posting that pic on the right secol.i never seen that one until now.great reference pic.

It also looks maroon in the ESB photos at the start of the Ref. CD (white Cloud City hallway) but I believe they are publicity photos and not from the movie.

I don't believe the ESB girth is pure brown. The picture secol posted and a couple others suggest there is a decent amount of red in there, ala maroon. Again I think the ROTJ girth is just a very washed out version of the ESB girth.

Could be just me, but I think it looks more like a deep rust, sort of dark red-orange (which is often essentially brown). Lighting and color correction changes many things though. Bear in mind, the pic reference for the ESB suit keeps us all guessing.

Looks like a reddish-brown to me, but I agree with Tyler that it's probably the same belt you see in ROTJ.

i tried a search on this but no luck.i finally have a real girth and im trying to figure out how to buckle it up.from the reference pics its looks like some kind of nylon strap but its hard to tell exactly how they connect.i was thinking of using plastic snap buckles (as tk409 did) to ease suiting up.so what did everyone use?

im also looking for a way to hold the loop around the buckle on the girth.i have seen it used on many jet pack harnesses.they look like really small snaps.i have no idea what they are called.

I just checked the MoM pics and nylon web belt has been used to attach them togther. The webbing is sewn to the outer part of the belt buckle on the right side and holes have been punched in the belt webbing on the left and then attached just like a regular belt.

That is exactly how I did mine.

HTH,
Lynn

Lynn,

Do you have any photos of the set up? Hearing how it's done is good, but if I had reference photos to go by it would be easier. I too have a girth, but no straps. Thanks!

Remove both buckle pins from one side of the girth. I used a Dremel for this (wear eye protection).

Use 1" black non-elastic webbing and sew around these two non-pinned buckles.

With a paint pen, mark where you want the holes to go on the webbing. Using a soldering iron, punch the holes as needed. The soldering iron not only slices through the webbing, but it 'cauterizes' the holes in the process. Very simple.

I hope this helps!

I've got a similar problem, so I'll just use this thread instead of making a new one.

My girth belt measures about 40" from buckle-to-buckle, but my waist is only around 32" (wearing the jumpsuit), so I guess the problem is obvious. I've been working on a few solutions to fastening the girth belt, but nothing has really produced any results. I tried both elastic and non-elastic webbing, string, velcro, and rubber bands (although I'm avoiding trying something with any permanency for fear I'll screw the belt up). So, since my efforts have been futile thus far, I figured I'd ask you guys. Any suggestions would be most welcome and appreciated. Thanks!
