girth belt sizing

Ok, I'm a 36 waist. I want to order the mohair belt. what length should I buy in order for it to be the right size AFTER it is boiled/ dyed? I can't seem to get a straight answer. please help

Well, typically they run about an inch small. I have not had any problems with a shrinkage factor when boiling/dying. They are sized from buckle to buckle so, you are going to want to add the extra inches with the straps you put on it.
So, with that all being said, you have to figure out what your waist size is with the armor/costume on and the subtract about 3 inches to figure out what size girth to buy. That way you will have about a 4 inch gap between the buckles that the straps make up the difference for.

I hope that helped.

:D

PS, the customers that I have had with a normal 36 in waist have usually ordered a 38-40 in girth and it worked out well for them.

Is that accounting for the "shrinkage" that occurs during the dying process? I intended to buy a 42, but didn't want it to be too big.

If you just boil the girth and wash it in the washing machine, then let it air dry, you shouldn't get any shrinkage. I know I haven't had an issue with shrinkage yet.
But DO NOT put the girth in the dryer.
For one, the buckles will beat the hell out of the inside of the dryer and the heat from the dryer WILL shrink the material.

Those of us with super skinny waists had to find the shortest length girth, and then cut it down shorter and re-tie all the straps back together, which I hide underneath the "saddlebag" along my left hip. ;)

You poor thing.
Finally being fat has an advantage.

Has anybody heard from E2K13?? I ordered one of his belts just after C3 and still don't have it yet. I have sent multiple emails and the last reply I got was about 2 months ago. He said he was sorry for the delay and was having some real life problems. He also said orders should be resuming in the next few weeks( 2 months ago). I know I'm not the only one that as purchased a belt from him and didn't get it. I would like my belt or my money back but at this point I realy don't expect to get either one. Does anyone know another source for the girth belts??

I'm figuring out the length for my belt I am going to order, fair enough for the above. I am a 33" waist, subtract 3" makes it a 30" belt to order... but

Doesn't that mean ADDED rather than subtracted the 3-4"? Wouldn't the buckles overlap each other as the length is buckle to buckle? Wouldn't 32" be advisable?

Mohair is hair that is obtained from the Angora goat

The Mohair Girth belt they are refering to that we use for Fett Belts are an actual girth belt that is used on horses that attaches the saddle (i think) it is the belt that is slung around underneath the Horses belly.

Great link, AND they come in maroon, saves dyeing it afterwards!

Well figure I'll order the 32". I'm a 33" so waist so that'll give about 2" of strap to work with...

Just so you know , those colored ones are not 100% Mohair, I think they are a Poly blend, I was gonna ask if anyone has got one of those yet or not and if they could post a pic of it to see how acurate they are

yes please post any pics if you got one form the above link. any thoughts to size if i dont have armor yet, but want to get the girth if i find one since they seem much harder to find. normal pants (jeans 33-34) so with fiberglass armor im guessing waist at 34-35, so order a 31 or 32???

So...

What color is the girth supposed to be?

Red or brown - or more of a rust color?

I was thinking of getting one of the poly ones in brown - but I too definately want to know more before I purchase one.

A 34"?? How skinny are you?? :confused

I ordered a 40". I have a 36" waist. I figured they run a little small to begin with and it should shrink when dyed and dried.

 LOL, I'm not. I have a 36"-38" waist (depending on how well I've been eating);) The extra 4 inches are made up with the belts. I dried it on a board with screws in it to keep the belt from shrinking. How did you do it, and how much space is there supposed to be between the belts? I thought 4" looked good to me from the photo's I've seen of the original.

The two I have ordered have been 2" shorter than the size you order. Strapping a girth on a horse will stretch it out. Maroon is a great color if you can find one pre dyed. Also, measure around your hips, and not your waist. Good Luck!

After (3) weeks, I cancelled my order. They told me they had no idea how long it would take to fill my order. The people who ordered from them and got their stuff were lucky.

If you check the website, they are now discontinued. :facepalm

ok I know this is an old dead thread but as far as shrinkage.... just how much does the belt shrink if I were to try to do this intentionally?? and I wear a 34 waist with armor accounted( cod plate) I would expect it to be around 36? i think. what size would I be looking @?
